....Because they reproduce? Because they eat and share the same amino-acid make up with Turians? because she removes her mask and does the nasty with Shepard? because it says so in the codex, and is explained in the game?

Logical arguments only work against logical opponents.

Living in a suit makes you a robot. I see

You do yourself and everyone else a disservice by continuing to post.

You made an ignorant comment that pretty much anyone who played the game knows is untrue, to the fullest extent.

Tali fanbois unite! Fight off the evil kid that insulted her by calling her a robot. She talks like a robot, and no one has seen her face. Therefor she could be part robotic, especially since they have had a feud with the Geth for their homeworld for hundreds of years. Why would the Geth, being robotic want their homeworld? You don't know if she is robotic or not, so unless you can prove to me that she isn't robotic ( could be partial) then get over it. Yes I called your e-love a robot. Come now e-thugs let's hear it.

I was browsing through some of the polls and an astonishing number of people seem to prefer tali as a squad mate and LI. Someone fill me in. What am I missing? Of all of the options, what sets her apart? Imo, if you wanted looks, you would go for miranda. Jack had the most interesting back story, I thought. I dont like Ash at all. So of all the ladies...why?

I actually agree with... well, everything. I liked Tali and the fact that she has a personality this time around, but I didn't really care much. I mean, apart from the romance option which I'll never pursue, there was nothing interesting apart from one tiny moment in her loyalty quest.
I also found Jack to be most interesting, however at first I didn't like her. But later, when her personality hidden between the lines and behind the words - began to come forth, well, she really got me.

Anyways, I did a little experiment before and after the game came out, about as many people finds Tali boring, signing the plate 'don't care' as many considers himself to be a Talimancer. The latter are just (embarrassingly) loud. But it's not bad, it gives us a good chance to mock them. :)
Also, it has something to do with the age and 'nerdness' template. Whenever I write a novel, I check the interests of the target audience first. In this case, I'd say Tali's targets are the young man in the age of 17-21 with extensive computer/internet interests. And if we know something about 17-21 years old nerds, the used to flood the forums. So it's another reason to find this many of these comments poll results there.

As for the " .... LOVE " threads, it's the same template. Remember that little social experiment with ME1? Younger male specimens usually got Liara as their romance interest regardless of the gender. More mature players went for Ashley or Kaidan for the first play through.
I'd say the same is true for Tali  and Jack, Miranda here. (However personally, I never found the latter to be extensively interesting)

Hope it helps you to find the answer you're looking for.

edit:
Oh and to add a question: What I found more interesting, why are people so obsessed with interspecies romances? They are completely against sci-fi rules. (Alien species are different. Biologically, mentally, and in their followed social and philosophycal leads. And... in too many ways.)
Would it be the same if let's say Garrus and Thane were humans?

You used the term fanbois, e-love, and e-thugs. You 12 by any chance? playing the game and glancing at the codex tells you they are an actual organic race. their fear of an AI wouldn't make sense if they were part AI, now, would it?

Am I the only one to think it's funny to see people defend a non-existant person? (She does exist IN-GAME but that's it) I love Tali, but you guys should choose your fights. And I'm speaking to everyone here. You see a thread against Ashley, you have that one guy who defend her. Same for Liara..hell, almost every character from ME. Some like them, others don't. Get.Over.It.

I will tell you "Why Tali".

Because the Mass Effect setting is a very dark and brutal one. It tries to portray things a little more in their subtle shades than black and white. The result is a world, very much like our own, where there's a whole lot of death and suffering going on and a lot of "good guys" who are doing terrible things, and a lot of "Bad guys" who are doing good things... And there is a whole lot of war, and death, and destruction going on everywhere and the entire world seems crazy and frustrating till you feel like you just want to scream and pull your hair out of your head.

The Mass Effect setting is very dark, and brutal and that is why we love the game. For it's portrayal of a setting more as it "Really" is... Not as we envision they should be like. It's dark, and it is bleak, and it is unforgiving...

And then there is Tali.

Tali is so remarkably kind, and good natured. She is filled with a kind of wide eyes childish nature that speaks of an earlier time in our own lives when we too were still learning how the world worked and our place in it. Tali is so kind, and so gentle, and so sweet... And at the same time she is loyal, and she is smart.

The Mass Effect universe is very dark and bleak but Tali brightens it just a little with her presence. She is like a little flickering candle amidst a choking cloud of corruption that blots out all other light.

People who like Tali... Like her because she kinda symbolizes a unique side of the universe that isn't often seen. The soft, sweet, and affectionate side. It's not really about being a perv but rather about being a Hero and wanting to protect those tiny little pockets of pure goodness left in the universe.

I don't care if someone doesn't like the character. It's the idiotic argument that she's a robot. If you don't like her personality, her VA, her quest, appearance, whatever that's fine, but false claims are silly.

Nobody's defending a fictional character, just picking apart a completely illogical argument.

The vast majority of ME players don't participate on the ME forums. Although lots of people on the forums love Tali, it's not that case with ME players in general. It's an example of selection bias - only the people with really unusual or strong opinions will register on the official site and post on the forums.

Really? because bioware made Tali and Garrus LI's in ME2 specifically because of the fan support of it.

I've never met a single person in real life who wanted Tali as an LI. Yes, they put them in because of fan support. There are a lot of Tali fans. But compared to ME fans as a whole, they aren't going to be a majority.

Selection bias like this happens all the time with all sorts of things.

I haven't met a single person in real life who plays Mass Effect. The argument isn't particularly valid. The only people who really know how popular they are, is Bioware. and I think the way they handled Tali and Garrus echoes what they know of fan popularity. They are a successful gaming company...they would not be if they didn't follow fan popularity.

She and Liara are the two most interesting to me because they're the two that clearly have the most genuine, deep and long-standing emotional connections with Shepard. They both clearly show signs of love for him in the first game, even if you don't romance Liara and can't romance Tali, which are developed in the second game. Jack also appeals to me because she's tough but fragile and I'm (unfortunately for me in real life) drawn to women whom I perceive as in need of rescue. Miranda is similar in a way, which is part of the reason why I believe the two are written as at each other's throat. It's not just the Cerberus connection; in a way they were both engineered from early on in life. And that leaves Ashley, who, while not a bad character - as you explore her background in the first game and discover she's more than just a vapid zenophobe - is still less interesting than the others.

As for Tali (and I believe this can, again, be said for Liara), there's an exotic quality to her that does not exist with the human characters, with the possible exception of Jack and her tattoos. She has an interesting accent. She's smart. She's funny. She's basically everything I would look for in a living, breathing woman. Whereas I see the human characters - sans Jack - to be, basically, very vanilla.

If there was a real life Tali, I'd be all over her.

Which is admittedly a very strange thing to say about a video game character.

because she is the sweetest and not a slu- unlike the other ones (not saying they are really ****..maybe) she is just sweeter than all the other ones and shy-cute like which makes the relationship with shepard more interesting since they have been together since the 1st game, so yeah thats why

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here though and say that I don't want to see what she looks like. My character is attracted to her, and I enjoy her personality and story. That's enough for me. Even if she turned out very attractive, it would spoil it somewhat for me.
