The BG2 references made me sad that Minsc wasn't a romance option in BG2. Imo Tali was the best Maleshep romance option. Femsheps get some pretty awesome choices with Garrus & Thane but Tali is the clear winner for Malesheps.

There isn't really a clear winner, its all personal choice
Some like redeeming jack
Some like cracking Mirandas icy exterior to see the person she is
Some like Tali's cuteness and mystery
I personally didn't pick any, I was faithful to Ash

She's got an innocence about her, she is definitely another Liara.

It's odd, but to me Liara never had the same appeal that Tali did. Maybe because Liara came across as just too drippy in ME1 (yeah I know she's different in ME2), whereasTali's innocence/vulnerability is mixed with a certain self-reliance/toughness - makes her cute rather than just soft.

Is it the accent too maybe? Don't know now - the various stray female Quarians you find in ME2 all have different accents, yet always seem to elicit a sympathy response at the very least (eg the one accused of pickpocketing on Citadel).

Nice little touch: in the Eternity Bar on Illium, there's a Quarian talking with her Turian 'buddy' about her relationship problems:
"It's always the same: 'Ooo she might get sick' 'She's vulnerable' 'I wonder what she looks like under that helmet?'"

Tali is just the sort of person you would want around for the hell Shepard has to go through. She has the innocence, but has also gone through a number of things that have made her grow as a person.

Hmmm it's very simple:

- talented artists made great job designing a quarian

- talented voice actress made great job with VO that we don't need a face in order to feel emotions.

So when so many talented people do great job the result is just great.

I'm a female and on my male Shepard runthrough, I was interested in romancing Samara, but I'm told you can't. I don't like Jack at all- she just makes my skin crawl with that blood red lipstick and thingy on her ear. Miranda, meh. Boring. I guess that means my male Shep will be romancing Tali or Kelly.

Because she has a great personality and a great body. Not so hot about the chicken feet, but what can ya do, nobody is perfect. ^^

For me personally it was a couple things most of which have already been mentioned. She has that Shy and Sweet type of personality, it doesn't really EVER feel like she has alternate motives when you talk with her as it does Jack or Miranda sometimes there's almost a innocence to her that they tried to get right with Liara but with her if felt too much like Ignorance.

She also matches my thoughts of the Paragon Shepard perfectly, Jack is pure Renegade, Miranda is in the middle (just like Cerberus), and Tali with putting the Fleet first and willing to become a Exile to keep her father's name clear/doing the extremely dangerous missions for her people is the best pure Paragon option that I see.

A lot of valid points here, no need for me to start going through them again.

I personally was attracted to Tali's character ever since the original ME and was hoping for a romance option but none was available at the time so my Shepard stayed a single =| Actually I'm rather happy now that she wasn't romanceable in ME1 because it feels like letting her character mature and evolve a bit was a great idea and all this waiting made it even sweeter.

I was extremely satisfied with the loyalty mission + all those little clues hidden to logs at Haestorm just made my heart go "HNNNGG..". I really didn't mind the fact that they didnt show Tali's face either, that's not what made me fall for her. Also, it has been stated in ME Ascension novel that quarian faces are very similar to those of humans: "lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids and tear-ducts".

I truly hope we will see more of Tali in ME3, she is just too good a character to be shelved =(

Confident but insecure enough to not get into the "hot girl alternate reality".

Except for the fact she has to be in a constant body suit she is the ideal female personality imo

I don't think that you ever actually see her body. It could be scabby or scaly for all we know. :D

Grunt supports this theory, only because he says Salarians / Humans and Asari are soft.

"Quarians, not so much."

Ok my only problem is that I think this quote of yours is a miss quote of Grunt, he says "Turians, not so much" not Quarians I don't think he even mentions Quarians.

I was browsing through some of the polls and an astonishing number of people seem to prefer tali as a squad mate and LI. Someone fill me in. What am I missing? Of all of the options, what sets her apart? Imo, if you wanted looks, you would go for miranda. Jack had the most interesting back story, I thought. I dont like Ash at all. So of all the ladies...why?

Tali does have looks...dem hips :P.

Well I like Tali for her personality, and especially in her romance where she's very cute and embarrassed. :P She just has an attractive personality, and her voice is nice too.

Some people see Tali as a little sister...I love her! :P

I too wasn't that upset at not seeing Tali's face, I was just happy she was a romance option finally, I also wanted her to be an LI since the moment I saw her, but was disappointed when she wasn't. : (

I doubt they'd shelve Tali, she's an LI now they HAVE to have her in ME3, I hope there's a nice sweet ending for her and my Shep. ^^

Simple for me. I just figured which one of the three I could sit back and watch a vid with and hang out with. Tali fit the bill for me.

She has a charming and genuinely appealing character.  She's nice, friendly and loyal.  She just seems so real and authentic.

What's not to love.  When I play my maleshep, I look forward to getting to that romance as I stayed loyal to Liara with my femshep.

because tali is just amazing.. she's sweet and shy and funny and honest and at the same time strong, independent and regarded as a genius... sure you can't see her face, she might look gross and who knows what kind of lady parts quarians have.... but it's not about sex, it's love. she just appeals to the sensitive guy in all of us and reminds us that personality is really all it takes. every girl in the world it seems is like miranda, jack or ashley.

Tali is simply the most "real" girl in the series. She's so honest, brave, loyal, loving, and strong, and yet she has arguably the hardest life to live. One of my favorite moments in the game was where she curses the Pilgrimage, saying she was so happy before she knew about everything she couldn't do, simple things like smelling a flower or feeling the warmth of another. If you pursue her, she risks her very life to be with you and is the most pro-active love interest in the series, doing her own "quest" to make things work. She drops everything, even her ties to her people, to be with you, while the other potential love interests are incredibly self-serving, preoccupied, or narrow minded.

Tali's story just "flows". It doesn't seemed forced or scripted. Unlike Miranda's or Jack's, Tali's relationship feels like a natural, intimate, and important evolution from the friendship you had in ME1, and there are a lot of signs pointing to a deep unrequited love for you on her end. Unlike the others, it seems Tali wins YOU over, rather than the others that need you to win THEM over first.

This. She's just an incredibly lovable, well written & developed character.

I really prefer her over Miranda (who's a far bigger whiner in my books).
Jack was interesting & special, too, but i just wasn't emotionally attached to her. While i liked her better than Miranda, i still didn't really pursue that romance option either. She might be quite likable once you really pierce that emotional wall of hers.

I agree with most of the main points that people are making about her. And the best thing is that when Bioware are going through huge threads and topics like this, like they did after ME 1, they'll develop her story even more for ME 3.

This. Said just about everything I was just about to write. Tali was the sweetest romance in the series, and tied with Garrus for truest friend.

Even just hearing in her logs how she wished you could be here experiencing things with her was touching.

I think it's just a different version of the same aged old question..."Ginger or Mary Ann"? The answer will always be Mary Ann.

I think we have determined 8.5/10 people prefer Tali over any other. There are many reasons for this. Tali is just such a great character. Bioware needs to look at these type of threads for Mass Effect 3.

If they do not put Tali in it I will never forgive them.

They aint no fools when the bottom line is concerned she'll be back. Even if your decision making causes her to get killed you could always play ME3 without transfering your info from ME2.

I'd prefer wrex or grunt, actually.  I find the 2 krogans artistically interesting :P

With tali i'd worry about pinching machineary, though she dose of the cool leg joints and and alien toes lol.  Miranda...loooks like the tomb rader of mass effect, all boobs all glory, and jack, she seems like the psyco-clingy stalker if something romantic went down, and they are human, which apparently are overcommon in the universe again so what's the fun/challenge of that?

so i'll stick with the Krogans......or Legion could be funny.
