There are 2 ways to import your saves but one way does not work for everyone i ran into this issue on Windows 7 64 Bit.

Step 1: Lauch Game
Step 2: Pick Configure and not Play.
Step 3: once Scan has finnished on the left pick Save.
Step 4: Click Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games
Step 5: Pick where Mass Effect 1 Saved your games default for win 7 is C:\\Users\\(Username)\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save
Step 6: Top menu click Mass Effect 2 and click Save Settings
Step 7: Click File and pick Exit.
Step 8: Click Play on Laucher
Step 9: Pick New Game
Step 10: Import ME1

if the list is empty you need to do it this way.

Step 1: open your mass effect 1 save game folder default is C:\\Users\\(Username)\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save
Step 2: Fine the .MassEffectSave file you want (Do not copy the .MassEffectProfile file.
Step 3: open the Mass Effect 2 Save game folder and you sould see a folder called ME1 and paste the .MassEffectSave file into it default for win 7 is. C:\\Users\\(Username)\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1
Step 4: Lauch The Game
Step 5: Click Play on Laucher
Step 6: Pick New Game
Step 7:
Import ME1

Note Paths are for Windows 7.

To Access these folders on XP easiest way would be.
Open the Start Menu and pick My Documents then BioWare and then the paths are the same as the ones posted above

Should be the same path. If you're on XP, it's My Documents->BioWare->Mass Effect->Save.

Everything worked ecept one thing... I was lvl 49 while finishing ME1 but while playing ME2 I started at lvl 2, does that has to do with me playing veteran on ME1 and chossed Insanity on ME2? Or Will I always start on lvl 2 in ME2 cause when I replay I ME2 with another char (long story short i finished ME2 first then got Me1 and imported) he is the same lvl

Did not get my ME 1 saves but did show me how to find my old ME2 games form before I added an SSD. Any way to make ME2 save to my storage hard drive not my SSD? Windows 7 SSD is C. Should i make it say D and make it the boot in the Bios and put my storage drive back to C?

a lvl 1 to 49 from me1 -----> starts at lvl 2 in me2
a lvl 50 to 59 from me1 -----> starts at lvl 3 in me2
a lvl 60 from me1 -----> starts at lvl 5 in me2

for example i had a lvl 60 vanguard with max $ so i started at lvl 5 with 350.000 credits and some resources (60.000/100.000 - each - i dont remember precisely ^_^)

jmilb10053: Messing with your partition setup sounds a little more complicated than is necessary. ;) I haven't tested this myself, but try copying your ME2 save folder to someplace on your storage drive and edit the Location entry under [SaveGames] in \\Bioware\\MassEffect 2\\BIOGame\\Config\\ to match (top of that path will be something like C:\\\\Users\\\\Your Username\\\\ from what I've heard, but I'm not on Windows 7 myself.)

In the first post, it says "laugh game" ( I assume this means Launch), and then pick configure, not play.  I am not given that option. it goes straight to the game.  I've tried opening the MassEffectConfig.exe, but there is no option in there for importing/exporting games.

EDIT: This game is put into the Steam folders (C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/mass effect) and there are no saved game folders in this directory.

So Im pretty sure I figured out what my problem was anyway.
I have Windows 7 and could not get either process to work for importing my character from ME1.
After about 30 minutes of searching and frustration, I right clicked my ME2 launcher and "ran as administrator".

Once I did that, the import from the configure window worked just fine. So if any of you still can't import, try that.

Thanks so much! It worked for me! After trying a few things I just made a new guy and what do you know, the almost all details were off from my ME1 go-through. I just got ME1 and 2, GREAT games, just like kotor.
