We are looking into the PS3 frame rate issues (Stuttering or short pauses) that have been reported in this thread. Could those who are experiencing these issues please provide some information which will hopefully help us to reproduce these problems on our own machines.
1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
>> PAL
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
I have a 50" HD Plasma, I don't want to play in 480p sorry.
3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
n/a
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
Have not tried.
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
V3.15
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
100GB (original 120GB the PS3 SLIM came with)
7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
Issues are there from the very start in the character creation screen right after launch
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
Yes
Please keep your response specific to issues with frame rate (stuttering or pauses) during gameplay for this thread.
PS3 Slim, 120GB, Firmware 3.15.
When scrolling fast through the options at the character creation screen you already notice the performance issues as the sound/background audio will skip ever so often and the scrolling hangs for a split second. This background music skips are consistent throughout the game and occur whenever something is loaded which is the case most of the time.
It didn't hinder me to finish the game after 103hrs of game time but it was annoying at times. The menu switching, e.g. from quest to codex ands scrolling thorugh codex entries is a test of patience and I can see how it would annoy people. Even more annoying is the fact that the last used menu tab is not retained when reopening the menu, i.e. when I had the codex open, close it and open it again, it would be on quest or map or whatever but not on the menu screen I used last. Shortcuts ftw you say, still it seems rather simple to ensure a more user friendly UI behavior.
DAO on PS3 is playable but suffers from sluggish UI and framerate issues. If those can be addressed in a patch I do not know but it would be prudent to spend more time on native platform develpoment next time in order to get the most out of the hardware you offer your merchandise on.
As it is now, the PS3 version is the worst of them and cannot be recommended if you have a PC or an XBOX360 as you simply do not get the same performance/quality.
