I can't bring myself to sell this because if I do, then I know a patch will be out in a week and then I'll be pissed. I'll just buy Demon Souls too and then hope that a patch comes out... but since I'm not selling it, that means that there will never be a patch.Lapsus Alumni wrote...

Yeah Bioware, why don't you just make a patch that increases the physical capabilities of the PS3 hardware? C'mon, it cant be that hard.
Games like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, and the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII have shown that the PS3 hardware can handle pretty much anything a developer can throw at it. The problem is paying those developers to throw things at it, after a game has already been developed for Windows. Games are primarily programmed for Windows based machines, which makes ports to the XBox 360 rather easy (and inexpensive) since, from what I understand, the architecture is largely the same, if not exactly.
The PS3, with it's Cell processor, is quite different. I don't have the technical expertise to explain exactly how, but I do know enough programmers to know that porting games to the PS3 is not as easy as the XBox 360, though from what I've heard the PS3 is the system with more horsepower. When a game is designed from the ground up specifically for the PS3, there is little comparison graphically or content-wise. The PS3 also uses Blu-ray rather than DVD, which is another architecture hurdle since loading from Blu-ray is vastly different than loading from a DVD.
It's just sad that game developers don't seem to want to invest the cash into dedicated PS3 programmers, and keep shoe-horning bad ports into the market, which in turn leads to more "proof" that the PS3 is an underpowered system, which isn't in fact the case. In part, it's Sony's fault - the PS3 is a true "next gen"system - the Cell processor is a highly advanced processor architecture that really wasn't ready for "prime time" in terms of developer support, while Microsoft went with a more traditional, current-gen, three core CPU. It's a lot more complicated than I make it sound, but the bottom line is more money - PS3 costs more to develop for, hence, there isn't as much profit to be made.

I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no, but can those who are experiencing major frame rate issues confirm that they are using the standard hard drive that came with the PS3. We've heard some reports that the performance issues could be tied to those who swapped out their hard drives.
No and stop attempting to pass the buck.
This is why you dont push forth development just maintain a release date for all platforms. Just some insight, its called polishing a game or "Polished". BioWare is usually pretty good at this so ill assume your EA partners have rubbed off on you.

I have 2 PS3's, and the one downstairs runs sweet with very occasional framerate issues and the TV is not 1080P so it is running in 720P.
My PS3 upsatairs on the same game running in 1080P is a very different story and definately noticible.
I assume then that it has not been optimised for 1080P resolution and lowering to 720P will resolve the framerate issues.
Apologies f this has already been said, and hope this helps.

You said you aren't very technical so I can see why you aren't charactarising the cell and 360cpu(IBM Power architecture) properly.dlavizzo wrote...

The cell has nine cores, one of these being a weak general purpose core that chops up the workload and feeds it to the other eight, which are very simple and need to be fed a very specific type of code. One of those eight is disabled in the ps3, and another is reserved for running the PS3's OS leaving six for running the game on. Cell is best suited to running simple, repetitive tasks that can be broken down into multiple smaller tasks running at the same time (threads). Video encoding, heavy mathematical taks like calculating pi and 3D rendering are all good uses for cell. Running video game engines isn't really one of them. Sure, you CAN do it as the games you listed prove, but you'll notice that every single one of those was developed specifically for the PS3 and weren't ported to other systems. Still, it can do a genuinely massive ammount of work if you code specifically for it. I doubt you'll ever see a complicated program like a game stressing cell to anything near it's theoretical limits.
The 360's cpu is a general purpose design that can run many different types of code competently and has a much larger on chip memory space in which to work(cache). It's three cores can also work on two threads simultaneously for a total of six. Because it's so generalist in structure it's much easier to write efficient code for it. You also get the benefit of being able to pass code very easily to the PC and back since the CPU's are so similar in capability. On the other hand, code doesn't translate to cell well at all and you're basically looking at a (near)total rewrite of the engine.
This is all Sony's fault for using such difficult to program for hardware for a purpose that it isn't really suited.

Don't think that's the case for me. My tv is 1080p and I have the PS3 settings set to accept 1080p if the game naturally wants to display that way (MGS4) and it also uses 720p if the game prefers that (Uncharted) or just straight up cannot upscale to 1080p and would choose to drop down to 480p instead (Infamous). So, when I play, the game displays in 720p, like most PS3 games natively do, but I still have issues.RiSKOSD wrote...

hopefully not relevant but the one ps3 that has framerate issues is the 80gb version, and the other with minimal issues is 60 gb version, but still believe its the forced 1080p thats the issue.

I think I can safely say that these are one of the worst developer and customer satisfaction teams I've ever bought anything from.
if this is any indication of how this company runs, I'll state that I'm returning this pile of **** to Fry's along with a complaint. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one doing this.

Does DAO run on 1080P? My PS3 runs on 1080P but when i start up the game it cycles down. 1080P, 1080I, then settles at 720P. Why would it do that?
