@ those with No FrameRate issue,   BatHead etc...

Why do you come onto a Playstation 3 Technical Support forum where people are asking for support on a game they are having problems with on mass, if you do not have the problem ?

Just because I do not suffer from hemorrhoids, I'm certainly not going to go looking/posting on a forum where people are asking about a cure for them and then proceed to post -" hey I don't have them, it's all in your heads ?"  Which is basically what your doing, and antagonising everyone in the process.

If you do not have the frame rate issue, or you can not at least perceive one, then why post here? You are not helping anyone other than rubbing the backs up of the many many people who do.

I just do not understand your rational in posting at all here.

<_<<_<

I do think its interesting to hear that others are not experiencing the framerate issue. I am not so bold as to think there is no way these issues might be because of our Ps3 set-ups.

Unfortunately, with such a broad range of set-ups (there was a time when Bioware responded to this thread, waaaaaaayyyyy back, like in December, with an inquiry as to said set-ups) its hard to reckon what the problem is.

I play with my internet disabled, try to limit the amount of save spots I use, switched to a composite (the red/ green/ blue 720p plugs) connection instead of the HDMI to DVI cable I was using and make sure I let Dragon Age know how much I care about it with wine and roses on Friday nights.

It has improved from what I felt was nigh unplayable, to bearable. Sometimes its smooth (yay!), other times, not so much. The only time it went away completely, and was smooth as silk no matter what, was when I hooked it to a SD TV and used 480i to play. If its so bad you can hardly stand it, I'd recommend trying it on an older TV (boooo!).

That, or wait & keep fingers crossed until March 4th when they release the patch. No guarantees about what the content of the patch will be, but a boy can dream!

From Bioware's Jason Ling to this Thread 3 Months Ago:

We are looking into the PS3 frame rate issues (Stuttering or short pauses) that have been reported in this thread. Could those who are experiencing these issues please provide some information which will hopefully help us to reproduce these problems on our own machines.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?

Please keep your response specific to issues with frame rate (stuttering or pauses) during gameplay for this thread.

That would be Component - often mistakingly refered to as composite.

Composite is the same phono connectors albeit  Yellow (video) Red & White (audio)

Component is significantly better quality than composite.

You know, I always wondered why they were called the same when the quality was so drastically different. I usually call the Red/White/ Yellow Composite type "RCA cables" but I really don't know why. Seriously, thanks.

Component. Yeah, that's it! I am using the Sony-branded Component Cables and they give me a better experience than my generic HDMI to DVI cable.

After I deleted all of my save games and started over, there was a noticeable difference in frame rate. There was still minor issues, but all around much smoother and tolerable.

After Ostagar, I did the Redcliffe quests and then went to the mage tower, and it is back to stuttering. This makes me wonder if saved games are getting corrupted for some reason around the time I visited Redcliffe.

I'm going to delete all of my saved games again and start over so I can be more specific as to when the stuttering starts.

I cleaned up some of my saves as well, deleting an unused character and a few saves. Things did smooth out a bit after. I have under 20 saves between 3 characters. I wouldn't erase all your saves! In my experience, the stuttering is not location specific. It will happen anywhere and anytime.

Tech support actually told me to delete all of my saved games. This leads me to believe that corrupted saves are possibly contagious. I started the mage origin for the first time last night after deleting all my saves, and I was amazed at the smoothness compared to when I first visited the tower later on in the game with my human noble.

Awesome info. I wish they'd get someone on here to provide some details. I have had my initial load of the title screen (sword & mountains) sometimes take forever when "Checking Saved Games". It sounds like corrupted save files might be the problem causing some (all?) of the framerate issues.

Unfortunately, I can't delete all my saves because I'd like to use them in Awakenings et. al.. Let us know how it goes, and thanks for the tip.

i don't think game saves has anything to do with it.

i noticed the frame rate issue the very first cutscene on the very first time i played the game.

it's another excuse to pin the blame on the end user's console.  the reality is they aren't very good at their jobs.

I agree with ziggurcat, as soon as I started playing, I had frame rate issues, I reinstalled, same thing. I disabled networking, same thing.

The patch is only preparing for Awakenings...god forbid they would actually spend money on something that won't make them money

Fixing the framerate would make them money... because then I would actually consider getting any DLC.

I've finished PS3 version. I won't be buying awakenings on it.

I have switched to PC version for the DLC.

Could it possibly get worse? I haven't touched the game since mid-December. Yes, it's that annoying to me that once I put in a different game and was reminded of what decent frame rate was, I no longer wanted to return to Ferelden... <_<

I sold the game because of the frame rate as compared to the 360 version my brother had. U wanna stop Gamestop from getting money, make a game that is choppy as hell. Love the game but I won't support something that is broken

Check out this tech review from the DigitalFoundry Blog at Eurogamer. It convinced me that I wasn't crazy: http://www.eurogamer...ce-off-round-23

The game drops from 30 frames per second to 15 fps with astounding frequency. It is remarkable to read that so many "don't notice" or like the folks at BioWare "don't care". When I purchased my Ps3 last summer I had no idea that games that ran this choppy would be making their way to my fancy new console.

I tried to contact Edge of Reality Games, the company responsible for the console ports, and imagine my surprise when I never heard back from them. The responsibility for the final product is BioWare's, and EA's.... ohh, I guess that explains it right there. "Too many cooks ruin the stew" seems apt.

It is abundantly clear that quality is not the focus for this franchise. I never thought we'd be in the middle of a pissing contest between BioWare/ EA & used game sales, but it takes no leap of the imagination to figure that is what is going on here. Awakenings is rushed to market 5 months after Origins release, two "meh" DLC's are pumped out in the interim (one of which is made available a few days before the expansion's release to maximize its financial returns, rather than make it available upon certification, which it received nearly three weeks ago) and nothing is done to fix the original game that runs on par with an epileptic fit.

I used to hope BioWare would release the Mass Effect series on Ps3. If this is level of quality we can expect from their ports, I would kindly retract that request.

Stay classy BioWare.
