"The actual gameplay hasn't seen many changes, but there have been some signifficant fixes for the console versions (which were actually made in-house at Bioware this time). Much of the slow-down is gone, but I still saw it on ocassion. The issue of the dialog being a little halting with too much delay between lines still exists as well, but overall the dialog is very good, and has plenty of the dark humor the original game was known for. The new characters shown in the demo were entertaining, and as with the original game you can expect to be given the chance to make major decisions which effect their development and role in the story.
There's not a lot more that I can say on the game, but I can tell you it's a lot of fun and a great expansion to an already amazing game. There's really no reason to avoid this if you enjoyed Dragon Age, and even the console versions are closer to par on this iteration."

After I deleted all of my save games and started over, there was a noticeable difference in frame rate. There was still minor issues, but all around much smoother and tolerable.
Placebo effect.
There is no way static data saved on your hard drive that is not accessed during play should affect your live game in any way, shape or form.
You may as well have said that when you deleted your Uncharted 2 save game data that your Dragon Age performance improved.
Even if we put reason aside and say you did see a tangible benefit to deleting your save game data... at best it would be temporary... since it is an RPG that encourages multiple playthroughs of different origins/character types... which means you will get new save game data that should, by logical extension slow things back down again.

According to this article on VGC, Bioware have made Awakening in-house and fixed the DAO console bugs and frame rate issues;

Thanks terrodactyl1, this is very welcome news. I always knew it was Edge of Reality's fault, not you sweet, sweet, Bioware, honest I did!
Edge of Reality Games also worked on this console generation's version of "The Incredible Hulk", if that gives you any idea as to their exacting technical acumen & exhaustive standards of quality.

Thank you.
I'm thrilled with the PC version and have had no serious issues it, and after purchasing the PS3 version for my girlfriend, I have to say I'm rather disappointed. The framerate is terrible to the point that her or I won't touch it.

And this is why I'm more than happy to be wrong (I thought it was not something EA would ever allow work on due to cost)

finally a response! this makes me feel a lot better.
i would hope that we are promptly informed if/when this issue is going to be patched. i understand that it likely won't be possible to completely eliminate the frame rate drops, but it would be really nice to be able to watch a cutscene or walk through a town without the jitteriness and screen tearing.

And now, in honor of Michael Yang (and his adorable little freudian typo... yes, we know you have been defiant about looking into it!) I will spend the measly 5 bucks on RTO for my beloved Ps3.
Stimulus= Reward! See you all in less than an hour!

Thanks for the response BioWare!!! Look, we don't expect everything to work as planed but just the little bit of acknowledgment you just game goes a long way. I realize the fact that It might not even be fixable but just the fact that you guys are listening and actually looking into it makes me feel a whole lot better.
Thanks again!

Its worse when I am connected to the internet. It can come and go. I've had issues even just in the camp on boot-up, so it has nothing to do with play duration.
