The frame-rate doesn't really bother me all that much, it would be nice for it to be a bit more consistent but in 17 hours there have been no major drops or freezes so I'm happy

The game is so much in need of a patch to deal with the framerate issues, glitches and the constant chugging/stuttering of the environments as you move through them. Also, when Morrigan are doing the shapeshift-spell, the animation for that needs a patch too.

I just hope that Bioware will show the PS3 community, that they take us seriously as consumers of their products, by releasing a patch to fix these issues. Too many developers of multiplatform games are releasing lesser versions with bad performance for the PS3. I know the Xbox 360-version and PS3-version are equal in terms of content, but definitely not in terms of performance.

PLEASE BIOWARE, RELEASE A PATCH!!

Um..might be the only one here.. but WHAT framerate issues? ive actually seen none, running on a 60inch screen so occasionally i see the camera "jump" forward for half a second, thats about the worst it will get, no slowdown in gameplay, just it catches your eye when it slightly jerks forward.. thats all.. that and it does tend to stutter a bit during cutscenes but i put that down to the game trying to keep in sync with the audio...

People seem to be making out that theres gamebreaking lag... =\\

Bottom line is the PS3 version is inferior, that said the PS3 is a much more difficult console to develop games for compared to Microsoft's support of it's system.

While the PS3 does indeed need a patch for frame rate, clipping & missing audio I'm willing to bet a months salary that BioWare/EA won't do anything about the problem.

We are looking into the PS3 frame rate issues (Stuttering or short pauses) that have been reported in this thread. Could those who are experiencing these issues please provide some information which will hopefully help us to reproduce these problems on our own machines.
1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?

Please keep your response specific to issues with frame rate (stuttering or pauses) during gameplay for this thread.

Jason Leong, It is probably helpful for some folks if you were to define exactly what is meant by "framerate" so as to filter subjective emotion that the graphics is not good enough and so on.

Same as the guy above me just about. Try panning the camera when u run and u really see it. It's only while moving or rotating the camera it seems.

I get a framerate stutter about every one second, when turning or moving. I do not think it happens when standing still, but its hard to tell. The movies glitch constantly, with the same approx 1 second stutter heartbeat.

PS3 Slim bought 2 weeks ago.

320 gig WD hard drive ...280 gigs free.

Latest firmare (3.01 I think?)

NTSC: Using HDMI to connect to Samsung 40' LCD 1080p native. Audio going through HDMI at 2 channel 48khz.

Disable networking: no difference.

I have not tried 480p yet .. but that better not be a solution ...

Stuttering is immediate. Heck, the opening movies for racial story do it.

I also have an original 60gig PS3. Has all the same problems. I think a friend has a 40gig model (non backwards compatible) that I could try also, but Im guessing it will have the same problem.

1) PAL

2) I am playing on 720p on full hd LCD

3) I refuse to reduce the res to 480p on a ps3 connected to a 1080p tv via hdmi.

4) turning off networking options has made negligible improvement, but it could be a false perception

5) 40 gig PS3 running version 3.1 or whatever we are up to now

6) Less than 10 gig left on my hard drive

7) The poor frame rate is apparent immediately. A single pan of the camera reveals the the issue instantly.

8) Yes, tv supports all options

Thank you for looking into this and I encourage everyone to provide accurate and concise feedback for Bioware to help solve this debilitating issue.

1: NTSC
2: Haven't tried downscaling the game; playing at i believe 1080p 240 hz or whatever the game scales down to on a compatible t.v.
3 : Tried it with the network unplugged and plugged in with no noticable changes.
4: My firmware is the most current.
5: 60gb original system with ~30Gb free space
6: seems both immediately after i begin and other times occurs randomly
7: yes tv and surround sound support all options

I'd like a frame rate fix too, but unlike everyone else who is bothered by its aesthetics, it triggers my motion sickness faster than other games.

NTSC

720P

Not network differences

250GB with 90GB free

Lastest Firmware

Panning is slightly jerky, mostly happens when running around.

TV supports all options

1) PAL

2) and 3) My TV is able to go down to 576p and I tried that resolution. In 576p the game plays smoother, and with less stuttering and jerkiness. But in 720p and 1080i there is a huge amount of stuttering and jerkiness, when you move through the environments and also when you pan the camera around. The game also has considerable framerate problems, in general.

4) I think there might be a slight improvement in the framerate(not much, though), but the stuttering and jerkiness mentioned before, is still the same.

5) System software version is 3.10

6) About 3 GB

7) The issues are present all the time.

8) Yes

Also I don't understand why the Xbox 360-version has more moving objects like plants, grass and trees. Only very few of the trees and bushes are moving in the PS3-version. This makes the scenery in the PS3-version look very static compared to the Xbox 360-version. Would it be possible to fix this?

Thanks, Bioware, for looking into the issues.

1) PAL
2)  Running in 720p, running it lower even if that makes the game better, would not be fun.
3) Not really I managed to go down to 576p and it might have improved somewhat but its still a problem that shouldn't be there.
4) No not really, I even tried to have been logged out of the PSN but didn't help either.
5) The latest 3.10
6) Around 6GB
7) It occured as soon as I began a new game, though I Have noticed that during the "character play" those first hour when you are not out in the free world, its even worse. The intro sequence is a mess then when u get to the open world it behaves a little bit better but its still not satisfying.
8) Yes, on the other hand I don't have major problems with the sound, Ive seen some clipping in the game but its not that bad, its typical for these kinds of RPGs I think.

Just panning the camera around as people have said triggers this jerkiness also the cutscens are horrible at some points seems like the games goes into like 20FPS or something, the ps3 is fully capable of handling this kind of graphics so I don't what went wrong with this one. its an amasing game it deserves to runt better on the ps3! If any this should have been a 360 problem *lol*

thx for looking into this BioWare! and I know Ive written some furstrating things in these forums but Im happy that you actually listens and looks into stuff like this! makes me feel proud to be a part of the Bioware user family now!
(but u should fire or at least yell the beta department.. hehe)

@ Jason Leong
hi, i'm from a german playstation community website and the framerate problems, mentioned by the ps3 gamers, seem to be very strong. Personally i'm playing the PC version, but i'm looking forward to play the PS3 version too. I decided to play the pc version because of this problems i heared. i posted your questions on this community website and can maybe post some of the results here in this thread.
thank you for recognizing the problems, i hope BioWare can solve it.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL? PAL

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower? Havent tried and don'tplan on it. Box says 720 (on a 1080p LCD TV connected with HDMI)

3)
Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference.
If so, approximately how noticable was the difference? Havent tried

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference? No difference

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance. Latest

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console? um 15ish gigs me thinks

7)
How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues
to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?

Its constantly there - even worse with lots of effects going on or after a particularly long battle scene (as if its trying to catch up)

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound? yes

I also have a very long lag after most battles. it got so bad that i just restarted my character as none of the battles would 'finish' taking me out of combat and able to loot

**Spoiler**

There were two places it broke the game (as in i restarted)

The wardens keep boss (the mage not the demon)
The arena battles in dwarf land (at work and cant remember places / names) - the dwarf battle was strange as the battle claering time increased dramatically after every single round up to the last battle were it jsut didnt clear (even after 3 play throughs)

Lucky the game is so awesome that starting again isnt a pain!

thanks for looking into this

Guys, nobody is telling you to start playing at 480p/576p, they're just asking you to try out if the problems you are noticing are related to the resolution (something I for one find interesting). I'm sure it would be very helpful (to all of us!) if you took the time to do a comparison between the different resolutions.

I'd chip in, but my copy is still MIA.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL? PAL

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower? not noticed any framerate issues (maybe I just don't have an eye for it)

3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticeable performance difference.
If so, approximately how noticeable was the difference?
just unticked the 1080i option (the highest my TV can do) leaving 576p and 720p under display settings and now notice some slight image stuttering in the opening cut scene, that's about it (but I did have subtitles on this time round)

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference? not checked

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance. 3.10

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console? I think about 5GB

7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues
to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
so far only the opening scene has had a slight hiccup, but it was barly anything really, I only went as far as entering the store room the get the rod of fire papers signed.

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound? not a clue

The missing sound is still there, first place I notice it is in the libary on the way to see the first enchanter, there is a female tutor talking to some kids, I'll check 576p and get back to you

576p seems to have fixed the sound (at least in the part mentioned above anyway) but the opening scene was the same this time with a slight stuter on the word "dwarvern" nothing to write home about really.

1) PAL - playing in 720p.

2) Yes, it's there.

3) Might have been somewhat better, but truth to be told, the difference was negligible; the stuttering and chugging was still very much there along with the framerate's penchant for low numbers.

4) No difference to speak of.

5) 40 gig PS3 running version 3.10.

6) Around 10 gig.

7) The poor framerate is always there. Happens at once. "A single pan of the camera reveals the the issue instantly". Doubly so when you start to move your feet.

8) Yes, the TV is not the problem - it supports everything it need to.

I also have sound problems through my optically connected surround system. Alot of clipping in DTS and Dolby 5.1, crackling distortions in Stereo. Seems to happen somewhat in sync with the stuttering and framerate problems. And no, never happened in any other game, movie, etc.

How in the world do you change the resolution from 720p to 480? Or 1080 for that matter.

My tv is set up to auto switch to the native resolution that is being output by the PS3(or any other source). In other words, I visibly get a notice that the resolution switches from 1080p(xmb) to 720p when I launch Dragon Age.

Is there some sort of setting within Dragon Age to change resolutions? Otherwise, I can't see any reason why forcing downscaled resolutions on the TV side would do anything at all for framerate issues. The TV is just displaying, its the game and PS3 that are working at framerate. Or are you suggesting that the tv is creating lag from upscaling?

Hi, playing the 80g PS3 on a 1080p tv, I have the default options running.

A lot of boss battles, and some of the larger non-boss battles will freeze the game so badly as to make it unplayable. The broodmother was particularly bad, I had to keep hitting select and then the O button to get any actions to work. You would expect a console would always run the game properly since unlike a PC the game is configured to work specifically with a PS3 as it runs.

Sad, please fix this (as well as the dex bug for daggers/arrows and the +healing effects rec'd bugs).

Do appliances come with instruction manuals just to waste paper?

Goto Settings>Display settings>Video Output Settings

Select how the PS3 is connected to the TV, now click Custom, now untick 720p,1080i and 1080p, leaving just 480p(NTSC) or 576p(PAL), press "right", press "X" and click finish

It seems like most people are having problems with PAL version of the game. For those in the U.S., I wonder if they got the PAL version by mistake.
