I wouldn't think there would be any difference between the versions. I think they are mainly talking about television specs rather than "game versions". As far as I am aware PS3 games are region free - the only regional differences would be in terms of DLC redemption codes.

The DLC itself would be identical. The only reason the redemption codes would be different is that you must download it from your local server which has the redemption code stored on it for validation - thus people with imported versions (and thus imported codes) having trouble redeeming their DLC - their code isn't on their local servers.

Correct me if im wrong of course :)

(It does say is your GAME ntsc or pal above so I could be wrong)

I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no, but can those who are experiencing major frame rate issues confirm that they are using the standard hard drive that came with the PS3. We've heard some reports that the performance issues could be tied to those who swapped out their hard drives.

i feel bad for ioannisdenton... maybe you need to reformat your ps3 or somthing only time i ever get any framerate problems is when

1) 2 mages are casting big spells

2) my ranger is calling his pet

3) when there are alot of npcs fighting and then only a little

and even then its just a second

but thats only for a second

Using original hard drive with desperately poor frame rates.

This is a perfect example of the poor framerate. My guess is that all the people not complaining about it can live with or dont even notice it.

Anyhow the number of people that complains kinda proves that the console isnt the problem, its rather the port to ps3. I dont know the quantity of modded ps3:s but most of the time everyone mentions that other games run smoothly, this is also something that backs up my previous statement.

I have spent 140 hours in the game already and getting a bit tired of the framerate. Great game but when I see a good PC run this game it feels like a dream compared to my ps3 experience. Its all about immersion when it comes to RPG:s and the ps3 version is lacking that atm.

I'm using the standard hard drive, the one that came with my PS3 (40 gig), but from what I've heard - all over the net - this hardly seems to matter. People with everything from intact first generation 60 gig PS3's to Slim's living the terabyte dream are reporting the exact same problems.

Could it have anything to do with fragmented files getting read on different platters of a hard drive by any chance?
on a PC defraging a hard drive before an install is rule number 1 to make games or software install & run well

Lets not go searching for intricate and improbable causes here, when the simplest diagnosis is clearly the correct one: It was a slightly rushed port for universal platform launch and the frame rate has suffered hugely. A patch will, I'm sure, eventually be released, but we just need to keep feeding Bioware with as much accurate information as possible to speed this process up and make it as easy as possible for them.

I have the original HD that came with my 120gig slim here on my computer desk. I will swap it back in tomorrow and see if there is a difference. I highly doubt it, but who knows? The original HD is a Toshiba, the 320gig I put in mine is Western Digital.

I use the PS3 with all it's original content. And the game i just bought.
And i noticed a great slowdown even in normal situations. For e.g.:

Female Human walking with the beared Grey Warden at bridge just when you arrive the first city after running away from the castle. Just the WALKING had a huge slowdown, like, half of framerate was supposed to. And more than one take / cam position.

Yeah, that scene at the beggining at ostagar is an obvious problem with framerate, however for me its more annoying than problematic. I will gladly welcome a fix, if not, its not going to affect me... yet.

It"s the first ps3 game which gave me a ps2 feel (or playing latest pc games with max quality setting)

A framerate patch would help a lot.

Wait...THIS is a problem?  If so, I am noticing the same issue, but I have seen MUCH worse on other games, including with Mass Effect on the 360.  I don't even notice anything wrong.

Granted, I got the PC version so that my wife and I can play at the same time, and the PC version is much smoother, but I chalked that up to the fact that I just purchased a new rig with a Phenom ii x4 965, 8 gigs of PC1066 RAM, and a Radeon 5870 video card.

I have the framerate/stuttering/jerkiness problems, which I've explained in my previous posts, and can confirm that I have the original PS3 standard harddrive (40 gig).

believe me , when you play it on your tv the problem is worse than it seems in this voideo. the problem that people above describing in ostragar... have you seen it?
and just because the frame rate is NOT awful in any way it doesn't mean it isn't bad.
btw compare this video to an xbox or a pc one and you will what i am talking about. :?

How in the world do you change the resolution from 720p to 480? Or 1080 for that matter.

My tv is set up to auto switch to the native resolution that is being output by the PS3(or any other source). In other words, I visibly get a notice that the resolution switches from 1080p(xmb) to 720p when I launch Dragon Age.

Is there some sort of setting within Dragon Age to change resolutions? Otherwise, I can't see any reason why forcing downscaled resolutions on the TV side would do anything at all for framerate issues. The TV is just displaying, its the game and PS3 that are working at framerate. Or are you suggesting that the tv is creating lag from upscaling?

Do appliances come with instruction manuals just to waste paper?

Goto Settings>Display settings>Video Output Settings

Select how the PS3 is connected to the TV, now click Custom, now untick 720p,1080i and 1080p, leaving just 480p(NTSC) or 576p(PAL), press "right", press "X" and click finish

oh, wtf, I knew about that. But that has got to be one of the worst solutions I've heard if it even works. I'm not going to change the PS3 global resolution for one game. I'd really enjoy watching a blu-ray movie in 480...

AND, how would that help this one game? afaik, all that happens with changing that setting is changing the output of the PS3 (and not the game) and forcing the PS3 to downscale internally to 480. In other words, Dragon Age is stil working in 720p and the PS3 is just downconverting it to 480 for the tv. I could just as easily change that setting on my TV, forcing everything from the ps3 to display at 480. Based on what you are saying that should improve performance too? I think not.

I replaced my HD with the original 120gig Toshiba it came with. No difference.

I changed my resolution to 480p ... the game looks awful, but does run better. It still stutters from time to time, but only when the framerate drops below 30 it seems. Heck, in 480p mode, the game doesnt even seem to support 16x9 correctly, even though I set my PS3 to that. Ridiculous.

This has to be the worse solution to play a game decently I have ever seen on a console.

This is the worse port to the PS3 I have every seen. And that's saying something because I have the PS3 version of Bayonetta. I can say with certainty now, that this game has now grabbed the title of crappiest PS3 port from that game.

I think that from Bioware's point of view, the fact that the start of the whole game, particularly cinematics, have such completely and utterly awful frame rates, often sub-20fps seemingly, that it may turn many new players off before they really even start. Not that the frame rates after the first few areas are that much better...

This very nearly happened to me, and because i had the option of returning the game for a full refund for a week after purchase, I had serious thoughts of simply getting my money back. I hope my faith in Bioware hasn't been misplaced.

1) NTSC
2) Did not switch to 480p
3) I shouldn't have to switch to a lower resolution with a PS3 running through a 1080p tv via HDMI.
4) I have not noticed a difference when logged out of PSN.
5) Most latest firmware installed.
6) 40gigs out of 80 remaining on my HDD.
7) Noticable stuttering and glitches on teh VERY FIRST CUTSCENE.(This was highly dissapointing.)
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound? YES
