oh, wtf, I knew about that. But that has got to be one of the worst solutions I've heard if it even works. I'm not going to change the PS3 global resolution for one game. I'd really enjoy watching a blu-ray movie in 480...

AND, how would that help this one game? afaik, all that happens with changing that setting is changing the output of the PS3 (and not the game) and forcing the PS3 to downscale internally to 480. In other words, Dragon Age is stil working in 720p and the PS3 is just downconverting it to 480 for the tv. I could just as easily change that setting on my TV, forcing everything from the ps3 to display at 480. Based on what you are saying that should improve performance too? I think not.

Again, nobody is telling you to play the game/leave the settings permanently down. They are simply asking you to check if it makes a difference. That's the way bugs are tracked down, people test - don't assume.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL? NTSC
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower? Yes
3)
Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference.
If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
No noticable difference; it still has very choppy framerates
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference? Sadly, no.
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance. 3.10
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console? 60gig model with the original harddrive, about 35 gigs left.
7)
How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues
to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
The frame rate happens mostly in battles, or while panning the camera while running, though I do start to experience HEAVY memory leaks after about 2-3 hours of gameplay, which I have to restart my system to fix.
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound? Yup

Hope you can fix this Bioware, despite the issues it has, it's one of the best games i've played this year.

I feel it's not going to be as fast as it could with people refusing to TEST at lower resolutions.

I have a 60 gig ps3 with original hardrive with the display set at 720p. I tried running the game at 480p and it runs much smoother. The stuttering must have somethin to do with the HD resolutions.

pure_mind_games: Well, that AINT something I take as a solution to the problem anyow.. Its not a ps2 we are playing on! its a ps3! its fully capable of rendering hd resolutions at 720p, 1080p.

but I tried it as I submitted.. it runs smoother but its still not good. and if bioware honestly would claim that we should all play it in low resolution like that, then I shall have my money back and I can send them my game back and get it and borrow my friends 360 and play it on that one cause Im not paying this kind of money to have to play the game with that low resolution.

We are looking into the PS3 frame rate issues (Stuttering or short pauses) that have been reported in this thread. Could those who are experiencing these issues please provide some information which will hopefully help us to reproduce these problems on our own machines.
1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?

Please keep your response specific to issues with frame rate (stuttering or pauses) during gameplay for this thread.

I get frame ratte slow down and music jitters all the time.

1. NTSC
2. Never played at 480
3. see 2
4. Makes no difference
5. 3.1
6. 7.5Gb
7. Almost immediately
8. Yes

I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be no, but can those who are experiencing major frame rate issues confirm that they are using the standard hard drive that came with the PS3. We've heard some reports that the performance issues could be tied to those who swapped out their hard drives.

Original HD that came with my PS3 is in the unit. 40Gb vs bought about 9 or 10 months ago at Best Buy.

they're not telling you to keep it like that, just to have a look, it's how problems are solved by cheacking EVERYTHING, if people are so stuck up they can't take 3 mins of your time to just have a look they don't deserve a patch.

There's a 500 gig 7200 rpm hardrive in my ps3.

The framerate so bad that looking for something while the camera is in motion is painful. If it was just horrendous screen tearing and low res textures, I wouldn't mind.

1 - NTSC
2 - I tried 480p, still framerate issues
3 - No difference
4 - No
5 - 3.10
6 - 204GB
7 - Immediately
8 - Yes

It's like playing a game on pc which does not meet the systemrequirements.

I'm also getting alot of the same issues thats being reported,

1. NTSC
2. Yes still noticing issues at 480P
3.Tried 480p "game now looks like a PS2 game" However the game seemed to run a little bit smoother at 480 but still stutters along with some audio stutter at times.  Especially on "cut scenes" Diolog.IT Audio also sometimes seems to be trying to catch up with the frames. Also getting a few graphic flickers even at a lower res. Still getting low frames in combat mostly when panning the Camera,
4. Did not nocite any difference
5. Fully Updated  to current  3.10
6.76GB using the original Hard drive that came inside the ps3
7. it happens immediately after startign the game.
8. Yes

It's hasnt been game breaking for me yet. However I am getting fustraited a bit when the game stutters up. It feels like I'm playing this on a computer that bearly meets the system requirements and not on a next gen system.

I would be very appreciative with this issue being addressed. I just want to be able to play such a great game that the devs put so much hard work into to it's fullest the way it was intended to be enjoyed.

Thank you.

I did miss the blind test

1) PAL

2) There's still some issue at 576p

3) Unless you move the camera like crazy and/or there's lots going on around, exploration phase aren't painful anymore (though graphically it reminds me of deathtrap dungeon on ps1)

4) It don't seem to improve anything

5) 3.10

6) 302GB free on 500GB 7200rpm drive

7) Immediatly noticeable and gamebreaking as it agravates through the game. It's also dependant on where you are (lots of npc or enemy and/or rich architecture)

8) sounds is output in lpcm by an 5.1 system via hdmi; tv support video setting. I did test almost all my games since i put a sound system and didn't notice any issue.

Having to stop moving each time I want to check or watch what's going on screen is annoying (so much to analyse in this game). During combat the lack of fluidity is confusing (I'm not supposed to be hit by enemy spell, my avatar is)

I just resorted to playing it on the XBox360. Many of the textures are lower resolution, but the framerate is just SOOOOOO much better. It seems to maintain 30 to 60 fps most of the time, with occasional slowdown in some big fights, but never anything that bothers me. I honestly dont think Bioware will ever fix the PS3 framerate, they are to busy creating new DLC for you to buy, to fix bugs (game breaking ones exist in all versions, and for me, the PS3 framerate problems are impossible to put up with).

At least dont buy the DLC people, to send Bioware a message about realeasing a buggy, unfinished game, and then charging for extra content before even fixing the existing product you bought.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
NTSC.
2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
I tried 480p, it helped but did not completely resolve the issue, still very noticable.
3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
The difference does not seem very noticable to me, screen still jump frames whenever i spin camera or move.
4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
It did not.
5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
3.10.
6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
Did not check, I doubt it would matter as I only own about 5 PS3 games.
7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
It occurs immediately and persists throughout however long I play the game for.
8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
Yes.
___________________________
I'm not very late into the game, but I do enjoy it very much. The framerate issue puts a strain on my enjoyment, it's a constant annoyance. I sincerely ask that you guys in the BioWare team would address and try to fix this problem for us. Many of these guys who post about framerate issues in this thread are not just doing it to whine, they, and I, really want to enjoy the game without the irritating annoyance...
Thank you.

let me state that i have a 60g version (with the backwards compatibility)

i have some hiccups during play but none that bother me. i do have encountered some freezing problems, wich forced me to reset my ps3. dunno if this is because ill get a ylod soon, or that its a game problem. anyway:

1. pal

2. 720 i run it on, havent tried lower resolution, but i am not gonna do that.

3. I shouldn't have to switch to a lower resolution with a PS3 running through a 1080p tv via HDMI

4. no difference when logged in or out

5. latest firmware

6. 220 gigs left out of 280 or so

7. the minor glitches i encounter are instant and not related to certain areas

8. yes

Question: has anyone experienced a little lag between dialogue? An example that I can think of is when you are speaking to King Cailan for the first time. Duncan says his piece and then there is a small break followed by King Cailan saying "A royal welcome?"

There are conversations all throughout the game. Is that part of the framerate problem or is that something else in its entirety.

Same issues here,.. everything original.. frame rate is awful.
And.. I've seen better looking games.. no offense but it should be solid.
Even reviews mentioned it, .. But there should be a fix for this.. but the cause isn't in the players hands..
I think it's the engine that isn't optimized for ps3... I may be wrong.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
NTSC

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
Yes

3)
Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference.
If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
The framerate still stutters, but is generally higher at 480p. At 720p it's still bad. 1080p is horrible. Regardless of resolution, the framerate stutters every couple seconds.

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
I haven't played with them turned on even.

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
Newest firmware.

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
40 GB

7)
How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues
to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
I noticed in the opening cutscene, and in the very first instance of gameplay. It's pervasive.

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
Yes.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
It is NTSC

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
Yeah

3)
Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference.
If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
Slightly, I still noticed the half-second skip when panning the camera, but open areas like the first wilderness have an improved framerate when running.

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
No, same signed on or off it seems.

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
3.10, the latest.

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
I'd like to think 20 or 10GB left. Latest 80gb model btw.

7)
How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues
to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
I just pan the camera or walk a few steps, indoors or outdoors, anywhere that has multiple geometry/models and effects displayed. Jumps to 60fps when staring at a wall of course, lol.

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
It supports 480p, 720p and 1080i, tho I usually just keep it on 720p. I guess this means it supports it natively, not sure.

____________
I really want to like this game, but as an above poster said, it's the first to really give me motion sickness. I've dealt with low framerate before for online games, but when it's not consistent, when it jumps all over the place for the simplest actions, skips ahead split seconds at a time, yeah that's when it can be "unplayable" for me. And for a single player game running on a PS3 to have this FR issue, it's really disheartening (especially since it's not a very graphic intensive game).

Hopefully I can exchange this version for the 360 version asap unless some word of a patch springs up.

I got this game on blackfriday and the framerate is the worst i've seen since GTA4 but framerates didn't effect that game.... I've noticed that disabling autosaves help and signoff the PSN..

Can anyone else confirm this??

I haven't noticed any change from being offline or turning autosaves off myself.

I have done these as well:
-Cleared my HDD of any game installs/game saves that are unneeded, and all media/demo files
-Reinstalled the game
-Turned Persistent Gore OFF

I still am having an unfavorable framerate the majority of the time. I think I will not wait for a possible framerate patch, I am exchanging my copy for the 360 version today.
