I am on a 40 gig PS3 and have not noticed a frame rate issues. Of course I have not played DAO since I played it the first couple of days it came out and pretty much only did the origin stories for the various races. What I am wondering is when they will release a fix for the melee damage issue with daggers and the other fixes they did on the first update of the PC version.? Or have they already?

Throwing my hat in the ring for a patch for PS3 framerate issues. It's one thing when the screen is loaded with enemies, it's an entirely different thing when I have yet to see a cutscene not skip or freeze for a few seconds. A simple cutscene...

So far I've only had noticeable issues during cutscenes. Not all of them, but some - and the jerkiness doesn't seem to correlate with the amount of action on the screen. Also saw some jerkiness in the transition from the origin to Ostagar, when it zooms on the map. It looks more like trying to play back video with the 50/60hz setting messed up (jumps every second or so) than anything else, tbh. So far framerate's been pretty smooth during gameplay...

Resolution defaults to 720p for me, so the TVs doing the upscaling to 1080. I'm just a couple of hours into the game, I'll try to answer the full question list when I get some more time into the game...

is the set of questions only to have us occupied? is there a purpose? I don't see any official word about it.

I've given them several days now. All I want to know is that they are going to fix it. I really can't stand to play the game in its current state. I don't expect a fix within a week or anything, but I do expect communication from the vendor that sold me a defective product.

Yes I consider it defective. The more time goes by without hearing something to the effect of "we are aware of the issue and are working to fix it ASAP", the more I'm upset by money I spent for a rushed-to-market nearly unplayable game.

100% with kyrth here, ALL that I want to know right now is that IF they are going to fix it..

This thread is a month old now, yet no official word is passed, unless you want to consider the set of questions... which doesn't even do anything as of now

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
I have a PAL version.

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
No clue. Playing at the maximum.

3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
Attempted, the performance increased. But not significantly.

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
No, it does not.

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
Latest. 3.10

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
15 GB of 55 GB

7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
Frame-rate issues only occur when there's a significant amount of enemies or animations running.

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
Yes

I have to disagree with you... yes, the game has frame rate issues, but i would hardly call this game "nearly unplayable". annoying yes, broken no.

I own the PC version but I was recently at a friends house who plays it on PS3. From the hour or so I watched him play I did not notice any framerate issues, nor has he mentioned any problems.

I wonder if its something to do with the PS3 version. He has an 80g model that he bought about 2 months before the slim came out.

Hopefully they patch it for you guys having problems.

has anyone heard anything if BioWare is looking into this? Its been soo silent since they wanted us to report what we experienced as problems.

I do hope they take this serious cause its no way near that could have been gone thru testing and been found "ok"

That is exactly why we need a patch =) The game is awesome, and it would be a shame to play it before a patch is released. Every game has it's baby disease, and a patch for the most basic bugs is essential. Perhaps Bioware could provide a ETA on a patch for PS3?

I agree, I personally want to experience the game to its fullest potential.

True, i've seen slight tweecks in the visuals during WK and TSP. They could amp up the graphics a bit, and it stops only for a fraction of a second after exting the menu, but i am using my 60GB version with 150GB HDD.

This actually seems to be a problem of various natures. I bought Dragon Age on PC on release. I play at 1920x1080 (1080p) on a 23in moniter. Max settings (no AA) (16 AF thru config) and Vsync at 60 fps. No framerate problems, however, I noticed that sometimes, rarely, some audio dropout happens, and my main character hardly ever talks, even in battle, no matter the voice choice.

Got the PS3 version a few days ago. No FPS trouble, but I am able to tell the texture and fps difference (capped at 30) and the fact my TV plays at 720p (instead of 1080p). I noticed audio dropout a few times. I play on a 80 gig PS3, firmware 3.10 (install HDD is a Seagate 500 gig 7200 rpm).

I output my audio thru a receiver using HDMI, not optical/digital.

Like I said, I have noticed no drops in framerates, no hiccups either. Yes, it does drop a small amount (prolly about 5 frames) when in long distance views/huge battles. But other than that, nothing.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that in the PS3 my character talks WAY more than I have ever even though they could.

1) Is your game NTSC or PAL?
I have a PAL version.

2) Has anyone noticed these framerate issues when playing on 480p or lower?
Haven't played extensively at 576p or lower (see below)

3) Did lowering from 720p to 480p make a noticable performacne difference. If so, approximately how noticable was the difference?
Can't instantly duplicate it at 720p, either.

4) Does turning off networking options in the Options Menu make a noticable difference?
Can't duplicate to test

5) What is your PS3 firmware version. 2.70 is the minimum required/supported version but newer versions may affect performance.
3.10

6) How much hard drive space is left on your console?
226 GB of 298 GB. 320gb HD replacement (WD scorpio blue 5400rpm with 8MB cache)

7) How long after you start playing does it take for the framerate issues to occur or do they occur immediately after a load/new game?
Takes a fairly long time but seems to be connected to accessing DLC areas, see below.

8) Does your tv natively support the options selected on the console for video and sound?
Yes. Running at 2 channel pcm, though, so I probably have more overhead than multichannel people

I seem to run into a related issue, has happened to me in Warden's Keep, Orzammar and Cadash Thaig. Namely enemies stop "dropping!" when they are killed, they stand on the spot in a static "stunned" position for a time, up to around a minute. The loot drops from some killed enemies don't appear either until that last monster "drops".

I had this issue first appear when doing Warden's Keep, I think. I also noticed it in Orzammar straight after doing the keep.I had to reboot the console to make it go away - I did not notice any particular slowdowns at this point, but I had a marathon session behind me and was not at my sharpest. I'm fairly sure I actually reloaded and rebooted the game and this situation continued through most of the Carta lair. Again, I should have probably paid closer attention, but I'm pretty sure it started at Warden's Keep and kept on going until I rebooted.

Just had it reapper when I entered the Cadash Thaig (stone prisoners DLC), game immediately became a slideshow and monsters hit the no-drop situation. Became a lot worse when enemies were on the screen. I'm pretty sure the Song of Courage animation on my characters seemed to stutter a bit even when I wasn't moving and no enemies were on the screen. This time seemed a lot better when I hit Orzammar Commons and couldn't immediately replicate at Cadash Thaig after reloading there, either.

The slowdown in this situation was very bad, probably hitting 1-2 fps when getting jumped by darkspawn. Apart from these situations (and the few early-game cutscenes I mentioned in an earlier post), it has been pretty solid. Wonder if those cutscenes run off the HD as well?

Caching issue?

It seems to be getting worse the more I play. I'm thinking that's either temperature related or minor memory leak?

Ok, I had this issue show up again at the Alienage (no dlc area visits before) - framerate seems still ok, so might be unrelated.

Fair enough. I'm glad you are still able to enjoy it. For me it is completely unplayable, well perhaps unenjoyable would be the word you want. If I wanted performance like this I would have got the pc version and played it on my aging pc. I play RPGs for immersion and it's completely ruined.

It was for my consideration of others' apparent lack of disatisfaction that I added the "nearly" to the "unplayable". I'm about 6 hours in, but I gave up. It's just painful to look at. It's possible to play it like it is but who would want to?

In any case, the fact that a month has gone by and we're left here alone to argue semantics and shout in the wind doesn't say much for customer service.

If it gives you any type of motion sickness over time, yes I'd consider that to be unplayable. Which it did in my case.
