...And I take them to the final boss battle, will they survive? I had everyone loyal but Samara.

I
ask because I lost Grunt (loyal) when I had him lead the diversionary
firesquad, and then Samara (not loyal) died randomly when she was with
the main group watching my back. Thane ended up in charge of that group
because I had Miranda and Garrus with me at the final boss and Jacob
escorting the surviving crew back.

The Grunt solution is
obvious, but I'd like to come up with a way to keep Samara alive (would
she be able to escort the prisoners? Or if Grunt is alive will she have
a shot if she's with the main group holding my back?)
