Switching Xboxes, keeping hard drive...how are ME2 saves affected?

My Xbox got the infamous red rings of death this afternoon while I was in the middle of playing ME2.  I'm fortunate enough to have a friend who's not really using his 360 right now and offered to lend it to me while Microsoft takes 3 weeks to replace mine.  So, I figure I'll pop on my Xbox hard drive, recover my gamertag to his machine on xbox live, and be good to go.

Except...will my savegames be in some way messed up?  Is all save date for ME2 in fact stored on the hard drive, even if it's hidden material?  Also, I have the Cerberus Network and have completed both the Zaeed and Normandy Site DLC.  Do I need to worry about transferring content licenses to get the game to run on his xbox, even under my gamertag?

Basically, I really want to keep playing the game--I did wait 2 years for it, after all!--but not if it's going to keep me from taking this playthrough into ME3, or make it so I can't access these same saves when I get back to my replacement Xbox in 3-4 weeks.

all that stuff is on the HDD as far as i know. once you pop yours in it should act as if its your machine....only you know...not with the RRoD!

The only thing that will be affected is your DLC content, and this is resolved by either downloading the DLC in question again from your download history (assuming Microsoft repaired/replaced your console), or migrating your licenses over to the new box (if you chose to replace the box yourself). Microsoft offers a free license migration once per year for people who purchase new boxes to replace older ones. They ALWAYS migrate licenses for you whenever they repair/replace a box, no matter how many times in a given year they do it.

As long as you retain the original Hard Drive, your Mass Effect 1 game saves can be imported to Mass Effect 2. They seem to be tied to the hard drive they are created on.

Simple, all you GT porfile info and game saves are on the HDD, this is all you need to continue. The xbox wont change a thing, I've had to do this once before. Just as K2daE says.

I had the same situation and my Xbox was already out of warranty so I bought a new one, equipped it with and old HDD (where all my DLCs, XBLA games, saves, videos etc. were...) and I migrated all licences using that special tool.

No problems so far.

What's more, if you still have all items you purchased on your HDD, you don't need to migrate their licences. You can use them, though, you need to login to the account you used to purchase that specific DLCs, XBLA games etc.

Excellent.  That was my primary concern; since I'll be going back to my own Xbox in 3-4 weeks, I didn't want to do the license migration and not be able to migrate back.

Since the licenses are attached to the account, you are always able to log into XBL and use DLC data. This allows you to play a game on a friends machine, then switch back to your own. The only caveat here is the need to log into XBL to access the data. To play offline, the DLC needs to be redownloaded using the download history (or the catalog). The downloads only take a few seconds each as only the license to use the DLC is actually downloaded so it only takes a few minutes to make a new or refurbished machine playable offline.
