I was reading through a couple of previews of Dragon Age and a lot of them mentioned the battle of Ostagar, and also

SPOILER
       |
      \\/

-----------------------------------------------------

that you will be betrayed at that location.

-----------------------------------------------------

END SPOILER

Then I started to think about the whole situation. Wouldn't the loss of your 'mentor' add to the current tension? I mean what else could happen? If Duncan doesn't die he would probably be with you and from what I've gathered he isn't a party member. Then again, he might just walk off to some other place to look for more Grey Wardens.

So what do you think; What is going to happen to Duncan?
Maybe he will betray you

he would never betray you. i think it the king helper. the one that tells him not to trust gray warders. he said he blames them for the king's death

Very obvious things from the trailers that I hope don't happen:

Duncan dies [Mentor always dying...]

The guy who looks all evil and advises the prince, IS all evil.

I don't think you have to worry about the latter of your observations, DeaconX. You should get to know Loghain. ;)

It would be far to obvious if Loghain would be the antagonist. I'm personally hoping for something entirely different =]

I don't think Duncan dies. It would be too obvious. My bet is that he leaves Ferelden to group the others Greywardens around Thedas.

Didn't the PC and Loghain engage in a fight in the end of the violence trailer? Or maybe I'm way off.

They squared off, yes. It is very possible, and in fact most likely that that is only one outcome, or even that it doesn't have the chance to escalate to an actual physical conflict.

Hopefully you'll be able to prevent it. If you convinced him to help you... Well he helps you, but otherwise you'll lose a potential ally. We'll see whats gonna happen.

Is it actually confirmed that Duncan dies? There's a video (soundtrack one) where we see him kneeling near the body of Cailan, in grief it seems. Maybe he has to leave Ferelden in order to gather the Grey Warden that are in the other countries (the Blight having defeated Ostagar, there is need for reinforcement).

Nothing's confirmed so far I think. Maybe Duncan's death is only one possible outcome, possibly depending on your actions. If you could actually save your mentor, for once, that would be cool.

As for Loghain, from one of the videos I've seen he seeks to unite the kingdom to face the blight, just you. So same overall goal, different method, maybe he'll be more like Ammon Jerro in NWN 2, temporary antagonist, then ally. Though I hope we get lots of options regarding the way we deal with him. (And Ser Cauthrien :) )

Concerning Loghain, a dev said that there was not always a duel between him and the PC (violence trailer). It depends on your choices, so, there is a way to get on his side it seems.

SPOILER:

There has been a hands-on preview that had more spoilers on the subject than what you've seen in that video, but I won't say anything more.

I can try to find the thread on the old forums. It was about two months ago and I don't think it had any dev comments, so I can't promise anything.

I am curious as to why this is in the non-spoiler section of the forums?

You're right, it belongs to the spoiler section. Any moderator around that could move this thread?
BTW, how do we recognize moderators on this forum?
