Which things i most want to bring back from ME1:
1) inventory (changed of course, without over 9000 items after each battle which i had to utilize in uni gel in ME1)
2) different types of armor (light, medium, heavy) and ability to change and customize/upgrade it on party members. Upgrades and different types of ammo (not as character ability) for weapons also would be nice.
3) more conversations between party members like it was on citadel at elevator scenes
4) old citadel, which was one big location, not this ******* in ME2
And remove this horrible planet scanner...

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the planet scanner - it is not bad at all. It's just never really reached it's full potential. I say don't change it drastically like Mako > planet scanner > becoming a harvester (like RTS games) and mining resources - just develop it further.
People want more freedom to talk with the characters. I would love to hear everyone's reaction to different missions, etc. Instead of, "I'll only talk to you about the loyalty mission/or romance."
Romance is another aspect that's very limited. Dragon age was nice where you had the straight and two bisexuals. It's just politically incorrect to exclude different sexual orientations. Sure you want to tell the story of Shepard, but people still had choice right: paragon or renegade. Why not include whether or not he's more attracted to Grunt than Tali. (Althought Grunt would tear him apart)
The story is also very important, everyone seems to be on the same idea that the game lacks in a good story. It's up the writers to push their creative limits. I won't give any advice, you people are the one getting paid, and you chose the job because you love to tell story, so deliver a damn good one.

Another thought on story/gameplay choices. I'd love it if the way we reacted to situations with our squad, and interacted with our squad could in some ways affect the story at a character level. For example, certain actions resulting in squad members refusing to fight with us, or even bringing them to betray Shepard in some way. (for example, a jilted love intrest could sell Shepard out to one of her many enemies. You get an extra mission, also leaves you with options on how to respond to that character: kill, forgive, abandon, etc) That was just an example, obviously, Bioware could do much better, more interesting things along those lines. I'd just love it if the way our characters related to one another could affect the direction the game takes a bit more, instead of coming down to 'live or die' or 'loyal or not' dialogue trees from time to time.

Also, I'd also like to say that the story complaints have baffled me a little. I am throughly enjoying the story, because I think it is motivated by interesting characters. I mean OK, so far it has been a bit generic space storyish in places, and I am hoping for a few unexpected and challanging twists and turns in ME3, but I think any issues in the story telling come down to more freedom with the characters, and more consequences for our actions further down the line. Make our actions really count, in a way thay could change the entire course of our playthrough! Not just block one or two missions or dialogues off... if you get my meaning.

I also have no problem with the planet harvesting. I feel a small sense of achievement when I strike a rich mineral deposit! :)

First, a story idea for ME 3: Give Shepard the huge task to unite all species in the galaxy against the Reapers! This will include things like stopping wars (ex Quarien-Geth) and help other races with there problems (ex Krogan genophage and Quarien homeworld/immune system)

10 gameplay wishes:

1. More severe consequences to your earlier actions. And make the team react to the decision you make.
Ex if you choose Morinth over Samara…
Killed/saved someone, ex rachniqueen.

2. Make all “surviving” teammates return as teammates. I want my Liara back! Posted Image

3. Keep the Good/evil action-system (right/left click) and make more of it.

4. Teammates can get involved with one and another, both with Shepards blessing and against his/her wishes.

5. Let sex/relationships have consequences.
For ex if you had renegade sex with Jack, make her pregnant as a result of it and leave it up to Shepard to decide what to do about it. Let it affect the LI as well.

6. Marrige and children. Lets fill the galaxy with mini-Shepards…

7. If a vehicle system comes back don’t let it take over but combine it with on foot action.

8. Keep the customisations of personal armour and make it possible with all teammates looks as well.

9. More conversations with your teammates and between teammates as well.

10. More relationships than only the LI. I want the possibility to have best friends as well as “almost enemies”.

1. Keep the planet scanning. Introduce an imaging system upgrade that allows you to see resource "hotspots" on the planet surface. For example: while scanning for for platinum you see concentrations of it on the surface, move your crosshairs over the area and launch probe. Same for the other minerals. This would make the whole process faster and more enjoyable.

2. Keep the thermal clips but bring back weapon mods.If people want to use things like frictionless materials and simply spam bullets ,fine, but at the cost of reduced damage. Make ammo powers available for everyone where logical. For example: Garrus isn't biotic so he can't therefore generate warp ammo. Shredder, incendiary, armour piercing, and disruptor are for everyone. Also keep ammo choices in the power wheel.

3. Can we sell some stuff please? Increased shop inventories would also be super. WTF happened to all the other manufacturers in galaxy? I'd like to see items that are only available in the Terminus Systems and vice versa in Council Space. More shops, more goods. There's few too many vendors in both ME and ME2.

4. Squad needs armour. I'll buy it, raid merc shipments for it or better yet, give some of those resources I've been mining to Mordin and he can make us some. Let me select what the squad is going to wear just before the missions start and allow me to customize their armour in the armoury the way i can customize sheps in the capt's quarters. And don't forget to helmet toggle!

5. Keep the load out screen. It's awesome and it make sense. I'm not carrying the huge ass inventory around with me like I did in ME1, thank god. Simply expand ME2's inventory to allow for weapon/armour mods during missions. If we purchase new gear (armour or weapons) during a trip through a merchant district, give the option to equip on the spot or send the merch back to the ship. Don't toss the research system out! Keep it the same!

6. Party banter during missions. See DA:O for details.

7. The ability to "romance" our LI's in varying locations, multiple times throughout the game. I don't mean anytime you want but more often than just before the "Big" mission, after would be nice too. For example: Miranda really likes a certain piece of music (can't remember the name) maybe Shep could pick up a copy somewhere and invite her up to the capt.'s quarters for a listen. If we can have some drinks and chill with Chalkwas, we should be able to do the same with our LI's. Put simply: make the romances seem less like one stands and flesh them out more.

8. Don't change the combat. It rocks. Christina Norman, please have my children.

9. No space combat or multiplayer. Never. Ever.

!0. Make it HUGE. Like12 disks. I'll settle for 3-5 though.

11. Aria. Just a one nighter or friends with benefits for renegade inclined Sheps but only if Shep has something she really wants. Not as a squad mate. Although, if she does turn out to be Aleena, I'd like to see a Wrex meets Aria scene. She almost seems sad during the dialogue that hints of her being Aleena, I want to know why.

12. Some sort of freaky, alien death critter for the aquarium. Sunfish are nice but I want some as before never seen ugly, dangerous mini sea monster.

13. Some open area, sandbox style planets like in ME1. I want to explore again. I know the Hammerhead is coming, but I'd like to see some ruins, bizzare landscapes and barren worlds. So many times have I scanned a planet and thought " I wish I could land there." Let us land there and explore! Example: Preying Mouth, Armeni or Junthor and nameless others!

14. If the Normandy needs fuel then we must also have to discharge the drive core. On the planets that are suitable for discharge, make missions or random battles at some of the planets that have travel advisories. If there's a pirate, geth or mercenary warning let us take the risk and sometime be rewarded (punished) with combat. Also some random exploration of mysterious planets (Preying Mouth) while discharging would also be amazing. Just take the Hammerhead for a spin or head out on foot and check things out..

15. Bring back the ability to board the Normandy without having to leave orbit everytime. If I want to leave, I'll hit up the galaxy map. Airlocks and elevators. Loved 'em. Airlocks would be nice to have again. Felt so seemless.

16. Open concept areas in some environments. I understand why the Presidium was off limits in ME2 but lets have it back for ME3 as well as something like an expanded Illium (maybe the streets groundside) . It be oh so very awesome to be walking around on street level, looking up at the huge towers. Expand all existing locales that exist within ME and ME2. More Omega, Citadel, Port Hanshan, Illium etc. Bigger, more.

@Bennyjammin79: Totally agree on all points except maybe the elevator part, the conversations in them were nice, but way to much loading time.

This was clearly one of the best game I've played in a while. I've red the books before and I really enjoyed all the stuff that were connected with the second book. Really hope that the same thing happens before ME3. To bad the prequel book Retribution couldn't make it before ME2.

Adding to what Bennyjammin79 said, here are some more stuff that would be nice:

Planets/cities:

-Earth would be nice to visit.

-It would be nice if there could be bystanders in quest while in cities. If you're fighting on Omega/Citadel, its weird that there's no one else expect your squad and however you are fighting around!

Mini games:

I thought the idea behind Bypass and Hack were really really cool but not hard enough after a while.  I think some should be made a lot harder to get (like new equipment, alternate path on a mission..).   Bypass could have lot more dots or some unreadable ones.. make hack stroll down faster maybe?

Equipment:

- Clearly make the option to take out the helmet on special armors.. drinking through the helmets was a weird miss.

Conversation/Relation:

 - The interrupt system is pretty sweet. It'd be cool to be able to use more of them as well as sometime have both choice at the same time (a paragon and renegade one) on the same conversation.

 - Add some choices that would clearly get you in trouble on the spot (e.g. hitting Udina when hes an ***!).

Missions/combat:

-More missions with all your team members on different squads and be able to see them fighting from afar while your doing your part.

- The combat part was awesome. The overall biotic reload made it much more like the books but found questionable that tech abilities were also tied to this waiting time. If I use a biotic ability through the biotic implant, why would this affect the omni-tool? Just a thought, I guess this would make hybrid classes with both too strong..

Anyway, awesome job on everything. Can't wait to have more DLC and hope ME3 will be huge!!

I really want miranda and everyone elese back in your team from ME2 if they didnt die and it would be great to see a bit more in love scenes and more interactivty with your lover e.g. go to clubs and if your with a team mate who ure in love with dance with her/him and like dates and being able to talk and have sex in different ways like buttons in assassins creed 2 interact in sex scenes would be great and a real improvment.

Don't know if it has been brought up but since it is all but a given that game saves will be imported to ME3 as well then perhaps when we use said saves there could be more information about the save in game.  Mainly about romances to me.  I tend to use the automatic name John but with multiple saves.  Mainly something like all the usual stuff paragon, who dies, level and such but also something like Relationship screen as well.  Romanced Jack or Miranda or Tali or staying faithful to the first games romance.  Just so it can be easier to tell game saves apart when using them.

Allow players to replay loyalty missions!
Open paragon/renegade conversation options earlier or at least vary it based on the difficulty level
of the game.  Play on normal 3 bars, veteran 3 and 1/2, hard core 4, insanity 4 1/2.
Right now it is impossible to keep everyone loyal.  I HATE THAT!

-Weapon upgrade slots

-More customizable armor (like light, medium, and heavy variants each with their own custom pieces)

-Simultaneous dialogue interrupt moments so I can choose whether to interrupt paragon or renegade.

-Hammerhead exploration, no planet scanning

-Less characters, more development...keep Tali and Garrus please.

-"Special" skills from squadmates...something that underwhelmed me from the cinematics--I wanna see Thane do some martial arts during gameplay, or Jack go on a biotic rampage.

-Randomized store merchandising (of course with increasingly superior equipment with progression). I didn't like how every store had a fixed set of products that can all be purchased.

-An even more refined combat system...bring back crouch, and add shoulder switching.

-Improved character creation interface (additional eyes, hair, etc...plus full head rotation)

-Equipment/Squad management on the fly

-A similar leveling system from ME1 in which points can be immediately allocated individually instead of 1, 2, 3, and 4.

-Gain XP from killing enemies and level up during a mission.

Mass effect and mass effect 2 are good games they they have done it really well in the last to games. What i mean is that in the first game Ashley William has her poetry and in the second Mordin Sing's Gilbert and Sulivan whit it really good to have in the game. But i was dissapointed that they dident played that music melodi that Miranda liket Nelsen somthing dont remember which, They could have used more such methods to personlisation, like joker discuse what happen to him after the Normandy was destroyed what and how he come in contact whit cerberus.

I can't believe that people are saying planet scanning is not that bad. It's the most tedious and repetative garbage I can remember in recent games I have played. It's even worse for people with ADD. It has to die. The stupid thing has actually put me to sleep nearly! No joke.

See, I really don't mind that. I use it as time to check my emails, etc, during a marathon gaming sesh. lol. And I still feel like I'm achieving something. If minerals were too easy to come by, then no one would neglect ship upgrades.
I still think it is a better suited mechanic for exploration than the Mako and world map thing.

But hell, as I've said before, as long as the character/story/gameplay stuff keeps getting more involved, the mini-games don't bother me in the slightest.

Well, I am not reading 100 pages to see if my comments have been duplicated but here is my ME3 wishlist:

1) Get rid of the mineral scanning. I understand some people, 'don't mind it' but that's not a good reason to leave it in there. Very few people I have come across actually 'like' it.

Give back the one button scan for planets with no anomalies.

Make minerals rewards for side quests exploration. For example, add some missions where a freighter full of minerals is being hijacked by batarian pirates, you liberate the freighter and gain the minerals as bounty. Things of that nature, as opposed to getting money as a reward, just make the minerals the reward. Hunting down minerals is a bad mechanic, even if it is pretty to look at. (the system looked good, just played like poop).

2) Add More styles of play. One lesson BioWare could learn from Bethesda is their games allow you to genuinely tackle situations equally effectively in a myriad of different ways.

It would be nice to see some other interesting ways to attack a situation. Stealth, real stealth, would be a go a long way in fixing this. More situations where you can by-pass fighting via dialogue. Perhaps giving technical ability more of a role (rather than just having fancy armor and turncoating synthetics). Perhaps adding terminals where you can hack them and open the airlock to get rid of a squadron of baddies, or release gas valves to drop them, etc etc. So you COULD using your biotics/combat to take down the enemies, but maybe you sneak past them, kill them with terminal hacking, or bypass the whole situation through dialogue checks. It would give roles more purpose, and add more re-play value.

3) I don't miss the inventory screen, but I do miss finding weapons/armor and customizing. I know that there is more depth in ME2 than people give credit, but There does seem to be a lack of armor looks. More variety for the individual peices, perhaps with pros AND cons for each to make special purpose suits would give it an interesting twist.

4) MOAR CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS IN THE CHARACTER CREATION SCREEN! The hair selection for guys is just too small. Also, more control over the complexion would be nice. Bring back the first games scars!

5) Please Please PLEASE no loading in the Normandy. I would rather a long loading screen at first, and then not have any loading while running around the normandy. The loading screens where just WAY too long for the normandy parts. It would be much easier to talk and explore the story with all the characters if there wasn't at 3 minute wait between floors (might not be quite that long, but still).

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

I'm sure most of what I'll have to say will of been covered by someone else at some point in this massive thread, but I'd still like to leave my thoughts in the hope that BioWare will take threads like this onboard for Mass Effect 3.

1/ The Planet Scanner - It's horrific. On multiple playthroughs even moreso because you may well of upgraded everything multiple times in the past and yet need to do the exact same boring thing again. I understand the need for timesinks in games, I work for a fairly popular MMO so I truly understand that more than most, however this is a very bad timesink because it demotivates the player. (It certainly did me.) Sadly in terms of offering a way to improve it (short of scrapping it altogtether) I can't offer anything. But then that's why you're the developers! :)

2/ The skill system - Disappointing - While I appreciate the need for the game to be accesible to less seasoned gamers (how else would you attract new players otherwise?) you need to strike a balance. For veteran gamers or RPG fans the system is quite laughable, there's no depth or room for true customisation there. I understand you're not going for Bethesda's style of character development - you never have, and changing a core value of your development would never be a good thing. That said it would be good to see something that is accesible enough for new players/less seasoned players and yet is interesting enough to keep seasoned RPG/Shooter fans interested.

3/ Exploration/Lineararity - The game failed to improve on Mass Effect 1's strengths and didn't correct it's weaknesses. If anything, it made them worse. While the improvement to side missions was a welcome one, the fact you literally cannot get lost or wander around is disappointing. It's the galaxy, let us explore it in a proper sense. You're not trying to be Star Trek, I get that and nor would I wish you to be, but you may take some lessons from how they portrayed exploration and incorporate it into Mass Effect.

4/ NPC AI - While enemies have so far seemed to generally be more intelligent in Mass Effect 2, there are times they still show suicidal levels of stupidity. Squad mates are even worse for this.

5/ Minigames - I very much enjoyed the Bypass "Memory" minigame because it stimulates your mind, if only a little. The Hacking Minigame on the other hand I found rather underwhelming. I'd like to see a finer balance in this area in Mass Effect 3.

6/ Morality - As has been mentioned by others, too often the different playstyles feel too close to Star Wars "Light VS Dark". Mass Effect's universe is better than that, it's Shades of Grey. More missions/choices along the lines of the Bring Down the Sky DLC for the original Mass Effect would go a long way in my opinion. Many Renegade characters feel it's unfair to be punished for not being a xenophobic-hate monger by gaining Paragon points on such conversations. I'd concur and use that as an example of a weakness in the system thus far.

I'll wrap it up there as there's more than enough feedback in this thread. I hope Mass Effect 3 blows us all away, and I've no doubt it will. See you out there!

Well I agree that it is a lot boring. But its not worse than the mako, the mako was a PAIN the second playthrough. The scanning were just boring, but all you had to do were to cheat some resources the second playthough. The mako you had no other alternative but to ALL PLANETS again if you wanted to finish a 100% player.
The scanning is somewhat optional, the mako werent! A BIG difference.
There is a workaround to the scanning scenarios. They should have made the second playthrough react to what you had upgraded earlier, so that if you upgraded everything, there would be no need to do it again.

I say improve scanning. No more to it than that. Add a few (1-6) vehicle missions (like the DLC that are soon to come) just for fun, but not for finding resources. Thats what scanning are for. BUT please improve scanning in any case, cause it needs serious work to it.

Get rid of the X button skipping dialogue AND pressing dialogue choices. You have no idea how many times I"d already heard a convo or read the subtitles and pressed X only to realize I hit it as soon as a choice came up. Generally NOT being the one I wanted. Got really annoying.

ad5  Those sex consequences should be fun and yup Liara was fascinated with Shepards personallity/survialability. From their conversations in ME1 and attitude to inherit by Asari those genetic impovements its quite strange she didnt had a baby. That should be fixed in ME3

other idea: Make Mordrin,  he is genetic genius, fix quarians immune problems (i want
Tli unmasked)
mabe they get this resistance by mixing human and
quarian genes in Tali and Shepards baby that could be sub plot of consequence of ME2 Tali and Shepard love

I want to see the body form of the female Shepard from the first Mass effect return in Mass effect 3.

I do not under stand biowares choise to change the body form. Bioware return the oirignal body form.
