In fact, in Mass Effect 2 I recall at least one cut scene (during the "Recruit Archangel" mission) where, even though I was playing a soldier who was using an assault rifle, my "Magic Rifle" in the scene was the M8 Avenger and not the Collector Assault Rifle I was actually using.
Down with the Magic Rifle!

Mass Effect 1 was just as bad. It needs to be fixed.smcn wrote...
I wish for the removal of the "Magic Rifle". What is the Magic Rifle? I'm glad you asked! It's actually a term I just came up with to describe the assault rifle that Shepard uses in some cutscenes, even if he/she doesn't usually use an assault rifle, or in the case of Mass Effect 2, can't use assault rifles at all.

Also, we should totally make Joker playable in some shape or form (as in squadmate; as in missions and carrying a weapon). If Mordin survives ME2 he should be able to cure Joker in the interim between the 2 games. (I'm sorry but Bioware did an EXCELLENT job at teasing us with how much fun this would be in ME2.)
And of course bring back Kaidan/Ash to the squad please!!
Regarding the inventory system, i think its pretty much 50/50 down the board whether the ME1 or ME2 systems are better. Both camps have very valid reasons. (I personally think it was oversimplified in ME2, and shield and weapons upgrades did not seem to make a difference at all). But I think a good balance should be made between the 2 systems.
Finally, regarding Earth, I am SURE Bioware had a reason for not allowing us to land on it in the first 2 games. I am sure they are saving the best for last... I am not worrying too much about it.

I'm sick of going back to Miranda constantly only to be told that "there's a lot of work to do" and "maybe some other time". The other squad members have similar "maybe later" lines.
Annoying!

Give us a higher level cap than 30 if I recall the level cap in ME1 was much higher
Give us some Normandy air battle gameplay(my inner starwars fan speaking)
Make the companions quests better(in my playthrough Miranda quit cerberus so I'm assuming her dad is going to try to kill her since cerberus protected her from him right???)
and make better armor and let teammates wear custom armor as well
Fear the power of Jacob!!!!

1) bring back tali as a recutiable memmber
2) actually reveal tail's face
3) a specail unlocable for having played and beaten all the mass effect games or playing and beating the first 2( preferably a cool armor set)
4) allow you to broker peace/war or extintion betewwn the geth or quarians
5) make the pain in the rear husks go the heck away

- Flesh out existing alien races more. It is always easy to add new weird space monsters, but it is not actually as interesting as giving the existing ones some unique twists and turns. E.g. give the Asari a more unique perspective as the de facto hegemonial power in space (biggest economy, seemingly most advanced technology, immense diplomatic skill in keeping virtually everyone on their side, seemingly very great cultural soft power).
A more internal dynamic plot with how the Citadel races interact would be also interesting to replace the "Galactic villian tries to destroy the universe" staple. It might still be there in the background but how about making the next game about how Citadel races deal (or not deal) with each other thus having ramification for the overall masterplot? I want to see more of how Asari, Salarians or Turians tick, not just a new space monster.
- Kill or retire shephard. Though controversial I think it would be good to retire the current main character and make him a cameo or something otherwise we end up with Perry Rhodan/Buck Rogers Superman. It is not interesting to play a character who has saved the galaxy two times already (he must get bored by now). The twists and turn to keep in plausibly in the game just become ever more ridiculous so one should plan a good exit for him and a worthy handover to any next player char. Given we play anyone we like anyway it shouldn't detract too much from the game but would make things more multidimensional if you get to see other perspectives.
- In the vain of the last: Maybe add alien Spectres as possible player chars. This probably would create alot of additional work but it would be interesting to play a Turian Spectre or an Asari commando. This would once again offer the possibility of introducing their social dynamics in a prominent way instead of just being sidekicks. I like Mass Effect for its universe just as much as its storytelling. I want to see more of both!
- More multi squad missions. I find it kinda boring that aside of my default squad everyone else is sitting in the ship but claims they like working with me when they never do. It would be great if similar to Virmire all the crew members you don't choose are still somehow intertwined in you completing the next mission. Overall Virmire did this great via radio chatter without any additional features in game mechanics. More of this would be nice so we also care about the guys we don't tag along because your class pretty much decides what squad members you need for maximum destruction (playing Noveria with Wrex and Liara because of storybits was fun but gamewise completely stupid because I couldn't open any locked container. However otherwise I barely used these two last game).
- Less Interspecies romance. I get it, they are fun B-movie material. But if some race are green descendants of reptiles, how precisely do they consider a pink, mammal even remotely attractive, let alone their sex practices? Asari should be an exception given they do it via a spiritual exchange and do not need a fitting physiology but for everyone else it should create more of a headscratching if they really into this kind of kinky stuff regardless of how much they like some human on an intellectual level.
Yeah, I know most of those are narrative ideas and stand little chance of being realized as they might interfer with "safer" and "easier" plots to tell.

As for killing or retiring Shepard, I'm a little more partial to retiring him, but I don't want either to happen. I like the knowledge that Shepard is still out there, doing what he does best.
I personally find interspecies relationships interesting. I can't explain how it sounds in my head properly.
I do, however, like the idea of more multi-squad missions. Everyone aboard already talks like they were part of "X Mission". Granted, I understand that's just easier to do, but still. I would like to see (if they survive) the entire squad from ME 2 to return.

The emotional involvement in the game won't be the same with new characters. It's like the first hour of ME2, it won't have been the same with new character, ship and crew.

I'd love to do a mission where in order to take down a merc boss (or recruit him to the squad if need be), you actually had to get recruited first (prove yourself worthy) and then complete a mission or two with them (i.e. protect a drugs shipment or hijack a freighter), in order to get your introduction to the boss.
Basically, I'd love the missions to have a bit more depth. Not that the missions are bad...In fact I totally loved the recent Kasumi's Stolen Memory mission. Speaking of, it would be good if the extra dlc characters got a few more lines outside of the dlc missions, or more quests (since all you had was just a straight up loyalty mission, no recruitment work necessary)...
Finally, I have to agree with the earlier post over the 'magic rifle'. I would prefer to see whatever weapon they were using at the time, along with the custom armor.

Yes it's tedious, but what if it were fleshed out some more? It feels like it could be a much more satisfying experience if-
There is no more planet scanning (aka "planet tickling"), instead the player can drop a portable automated mining base (that is moderately expensive to purchase) onto a planet carrying the resources you desire. Your ship will have automagically determined the locations of what resources are where on the planet's surface.
The mining base will frequently, periodically send you via automated drones the resources it excavates.
Mining bases may infrequently/frequently come under attack (dependent on the lawlessness of the current system they are in), causing damage that hinders production. The base would automatically repair itself slowly over time, with some sort of option to speed up the process through some direct means.
The player would be able to purchase defensive upgrades to prevent damage, or if they are close enough, they can land near the mining base and repel the invaders personally. If the player arrives soon after the enemy attack starts, the enemy will be less entrenched and easier to dispose of as opposed to if the enemy has been there for a while.
What do you guys think? How can you make this idea better?

Even though tedious I like the idea of returning the ability to roam planets. Made the scope of game in ME1 larger. Maybe you could work planet mining in like that. That way you could have fun on a planet while finding minerals. It should be less tendious with the hovercraft due to it's ability to cover terrain much more quickly. Meaning you won't be going "how do I get up this mountain" and "it's going to take a long time to find all the minerals on this planet" like I did in the first ME.

ALL of the RPG elements in ME1 need to be back. ME2 doesn't hack it as an RPG, it's a third person shooter if anything.
The ME1 medigel system NEEDS to come back. I don't like that ME2 moved into shooter - it was an RPG! Keep it that way, have health and shields registered along with your teammate's at one side of the screen.
Bring back the minimap. I hated not having it there, because the amount of times I was shooting at something and a Husk would come behind me and beat me to death because I couldn't see it on my radar was ridiculous.
Take out the mining, or make it less tedious SOMEHOW. I like the idea of using resources, but FFS, I do not want to have to spend 2 hours of play time mining resources out of a planet.
Finally, simply because I'm dying of curiousity, show us what female Krogan, Turian, Batarian and Drell look like!

Some thing that bothered me with ME 2 was that if I used up medigel or heavy weapons ammo in a previous mission I wasn't able to replenish it before starting the next mission. yes there were places to get medi-gel and heavy weapon ammo but it either wasn't enough or by the time I reached the heavy weapon or medi-gel I didn't need it. I hope in Me 3 they would make it possible to replenish my supplies before a mission.
They did a good job at making the AI controlled teammates smarter in ME 2 than ME1 but they still do stupid things some times especially at the harder difficulty levels. I hope in ME 3 they make them smarter at the harder levels.
