2. Character Continuation / More Storyline Altering Decisions.

It seemed like in ME2, which i have done 2 playthroughs with (One from scratch, and one with a import of my ME1 shepard), that most of the critical decisions made in ME1 did not result in serious changes.  Im excited to see what bioware cooks up for us in ME3, It seems like a return to the Alliance / Council is an option vs continuing to work with Cerebus.

It would just be nice to see the characters in ME2 and ME1 continue into ME3, and have all of your decisions that you made playing the game over and over, lead to REAL tangible changes in how the game plays out in ME3.

Real tangible changes PLEASE! None of this "wrex has a doppleganger" and "the new council doesn't want to see you" crud. Let's see our previous decisions actually make a difference!

Filing mission reports either to the illusive man or to the council, depending on your ME2 endgame choices, would be an awesome start.

I doubt it will happen but some serious Rouge Squadron style fighter missions could be super fun. Remember before ME1 how everyone was asking whether there would be fighter combat?

The UE3 engine can handle it too, UE3 has heaps of vehicular combat, including fighters.

Tons of great suggestions here, and am glad it was stickied.

My #1 wish is for more exploration in larger living environments, via both foot and vehicle. This is the core RPG element I miss the most from both ME1 and ME2. Cities, stations, and outposts with many NPCs, numerous side quests, shops, secret areas, open exploration, and most importantly a reason to come back. Your actions affect these environments, change their physical and political landscape, spawning more quests or different equipment.

In addition to living hubs, there was a suggestion near the beginning of this thread to allow you to visit any fuel station, mining outpost or the like, and possibly access bounty boards a la Dragon Age and Borderlands. This is a great opportunity for both DLC expansions and randomly generated procedural quests. There's nothing more depressing than being able to continue playing a game after completing it, but having nothing to do.

Cheers.

A healthy, living Thane, please.

By ME3 my Shepard should be dead a million times over. Ok, I'm exaggerating but without her the galaxy would be screwed! I think that after all the things she's seen and experienced, she deserves her drell.

Also, on the career selection screen, I think it would be useful to have a picture of Shepard to go along with the date they were created, their class, etc. I've imported one of my characters a few times and sometimes it's a little confusing. The picture would be a quick way to distinguish between 5 Jane Shepards. I guess this is only useful if after each import his/her appearance was changed. Still, some people would find it helpful.

Ashley/Kaidan and Liara back.

Bioware, if you expect me to take down the reapers, I'm gonna need an assault rifle toting gunnery chief and a blue biotic wielding alien to make it happen.

Just saying.

You guys are the best. You'll do a great job.

My wish list for ME3:

Generally, aside from the one or two small things that annoyed me purely because of personal preference (stupid little things like Shepard cracking his knuckles) I have no complaints.  The things that pop into my brain for ME3 are as follows:

1) HELMET TOGGLE

2) Proper and fulfilling resolution of romantic subplots from ME1.

3) "Friend" dialogue.  I stuck with Ashley with my Shepard and felt like I missed out on a lot of getting to know Jack and Miranda because all conversation seemed to stop as soon as it was determined I wouldn't be sleeping with them.  And I'd have loved to have been more buddy buddy with Tali too, but same problem.  The non "cheating" people kind of got screwed on character interaction as a whole (what with the small appearance of our love interest and the aforementioned shut down in conversation with everyone else).

4)  Ash/Kaidan as squadmates.  With character development suited to them specifically and not just recycled, interchangeable lines.

5)  Make the game with ME1fans in mind.  It's great to get new players, but by the third part of a trilogy it really should be about rewarding the ones that have stuck with you from the beginning.  This means giving all the characters from the first game their due.  And if that means brand spanking new ME3 characters have to take a backseat, so be it.  We'll all still love them.

I love the combat and story of this series, but my favorite thing will always be the awesome character writing.

:D

This.

I think ducking should be back. We had two buttons to show us where to go for mission objectives/showing us the map, but no button for ducking? What the hell?

The cover system was fun, but if you got flanked you couldn't spin around and address the flanking enemy without getting out of cover half the time. You couldn't duck behind an object and crawl around in cover without pressing your back to it and opening yourself to getting flanked in a bad way.

Also, it would be awesome to captain a cruiser-sized vessel, wouldn't it? :P  Or maybe semi cruiser-sized.  The same level of sophistication as the SR2, or more.

That said I wouldn't mind a return of the SR2.  I've grown really attached to that ship, more than the original Normandy to an extent.  Also, want EDI back!

i want bioware to bring back me1 LIs and keep me2 squadmates. i feel like the cameos were enough for me2, but doing this in the final game would suck. the squadmates in me2 felt more real and fleshed out than the me1 characters because the entire game was devoted to them; it would seem lackluster to phase them out in me3 and introduce new characters who won't be given the same amount of time to develop.

-A chance to help quarians retake there homeworld

-More than 4 places that you can land on and travel in (like the citadel, Illium, etc.)

-A better pet system

-More armor and weapon choices

-Better relationship system (you only get to have a full relationship before the final battle...again)

-To actually see a quarian face

-A more custom team selection

-Be able to make settlements

-Land on Earth

-Better mining (hard to explain exactly what to improve on)

-More Side Quests during the game and more once beaten

-Mabye try some space combat

-Make mined planets in ME2 effect how it looks and who owns it in ME3

-Bring back stairs and elevator rides (you said you make them shorter, not a loading screen)

-That's another thing, could there be enough loading screens, in this game?

-(Ill edit if I think of more)

I want those things:

- that Udina in hiding is really Shadow Broker (Did I hit the spot? :D)

- that central story resolves only around Shepard this time, his motivations, his losses, his demons and because of it, it gets very personal (just like Max Payne, you know?): make it so that he fail to save everything in the beginning of the game and destroy the Citadel. Despair, uselessness and bad conscience should be main motives of third Mass Effect instalment.

- I want both Liara and Tali to be there available for party

- Krogan female would be also very interesting party character

- that everything ends where it started (the speech at the beginning of ME1 indicates that they chosed Shepard intentionaly - what about if they watched and raised him to his greatness from beginning (It would make sense why Cerberus paid so much for him and it would explain why only Shepard is needed to save the galaxy - and think of Jade Empire or KotOR story twist) But no time travelling, please!

- as others already said - we need future Earth to explore - after prologue, make Shepard start the game on the streets in some city with high scyscrapers (eg. San Francisco, remember Star Trek? :) http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Earth ) and in the end let us defend the Earth against the invasion

- if Shepard ever steps into Dark Space where Reapers are, make it dreamy sequence where he thinks everything is solved and won and he has happy life just to find out afterwards that Reapers are in fact heading to Earth in that very moment and that he is still in that Dark Space and waking up from a dream.

- add diversity to minigames, what about making five or six of them? also, exploring the universe and its planets is must but scanning is a bit boring after a while (ME1 was better in this)

- more powers, non combat skills and RPG elements

- more character banter in dialogues (for example, I brought Garrus and Tali to meeting with Liara and neither of them said anything!) Also, more party interaction (like DAO) and more comments to their surroundings would be great.

- customizable weapons

- more moral decisions and more Paragon/Renegade consequences

- give us more locations we can return to later in story always to find something new

- bring back the maps

Many things in ME2 and ME1 will never be agreed upon. e.g.
Amount of loot, complexity of upgrades and research etc.

I'm just targeting the absolute no brainers here.

On xbox360

1. Running and automatically taking cover.
Playing on hardcore or insanity you find yourself running for cover a lot and
it absolutely does not help when you are magnetically attracted to a cover
while trying to run from a charging krogan or a very powerful enemy, only to be
killed because you are stuck to a wall from running . Please fix either with
patch in ME2 or feature in ME3. e.g. Run like in CODMW2 and KZ2, i.e. Pressing
the right or left thumb stick.. Also keep the config of holding A to run and
auto cover (this will avoid ppl use to this config complaining), but give us
something to just do the running without auto cover.

2. Ability to just jump or climb automatically instead of having to take cover
before being able to jump over an obstacle. You can set to auto climb or jump
onto obstacles.

Umm yeah.. quite annoying..

3. Enemy AI is kinda meh..

Look at how CODM2 and KZ2 enemy AI works with all the
flanking and strategy they use.. i know, i know.. FPS vs TPS and ME is not a
shooter blah blah, but if it's to get better this is the way. I'm about 25
hours into insanity level and it's hard because enemy bullets does stupid-ridiculous-incredible
damage compared to yours and not because enemy AI is better, which should be
the case.

4. Oh 1 more thing i forgot
The 'resume' after you die is not done very well. Hitting the x button resumes you at a save point which is not where you just died . It shouldn't even need to spend time reloading the level. It should just kinda(sic) "respawn" you in the current level really without any reloading of level at all. It's weird. You die, you want to go back to the latest save point before you died and retry the stage but the x button sometimes takes you all the way back a couple of saves spots.

Besides that, absolutely fantastic games!:lol: Shame about points 1 and 2 here.

ME2 is awesome and would be so much better with a few adjustments. I hope ME3 has some of these.
1. More then 3 main storyline missions. The ME2 missions were cool and all, but only 3 collector based missions? I would have loved to fight the collectors on Earth as they attempt to take millions of humans for the reaper.

2. Squad on squad interaction. Miranda and Jack on the same team shouldnt be silence the whole time.

3. More Virmire type missions. I know the last mission in ME2 can be kinda like this, but actually choosing 1 to live and 1 to die is brutal. Hard choices like this make it seem more epic.

4. Council involvement. I know ME2 was about humans and Cerberus, but there was only 1 conversation with the council and it didnt mean anything. The council should play a big role in ME3.

5. Vehicle exploration like in ME1. Maybe use the flying car type shuttle or something?

6. Looting. Even if we use ammo powers and cant pick up hundreds of guns, there are things that should still be looted. All types of upgrades (guns, biotic, tech, normandy), extra armor parts, resources, and credits should be able to be looted.

7. ME1 LI and ME2 LI should meet (if they survived) and have an argument where Shepard has to decide. I wanna see Miranda and Ashley fight! Please show Tali's face too.

8. The whole galaxy uniting. Like in DA:O, recruiting whole races and clans for help in the final mission.

The most important change, if you're really looking to bring RPGs to the shooter crowd, is a big one.

The shooter crowd, with the exception of GoW, does not like cover-based shooters. FPS/TPS games are about a singular, primary skill - that of aiming. The difficulty in properly executed FPS/TPS games scales the demands on that primary skill.

I've written a huge post on it before, but thats not how difficulty scales in ME2. Make it so the difficulty levels reflect a different need for aim to progress quickly through the levels, not merely making the levels unbearably slow.

Make headshots meaningful (i.e. make them 1 shot kills). Make enemies numerous, not durable. Make weapons such that you can use the one or two you like best, not like the current system where ammo requirements force you to use weapons you do not like once you get over Normal difficulty.

And, as far as more specific stuff goes, don't give Infiltrators a _worthless_ sniper rifle to start with.

Seriously, the initial rifle is completely worthless. Until the Viper is acquired, that rifle is used for like 10% of kills, when an Infiltrator should be using it for 90% through the entire game.

I'll add a quick list of stuff. I don't feel up to reading 18 pages of this, so bear with me if some have been covered:
  •  Agree with OP. I liked having more armour and upgrades, and looting was great. Gave me more money so I could actually AFFORD all of the upgrades ;)
  • Bring back armour upgrading for allies. I don't understand how Jack or Miranda can survive wearing no armour whatsoever. Don't get me wrong though, i liked the different attire for the ME2 allies, but maybe save that for just being on the Normandy?
  • Joker, keep up the awesomeness. 'nuff said.
  • I would like to see a HAPPY ENDING with the ME1 love interests - it doesn't need to be like sex or something (but I won't complain) but as long as its happy. No dying.
  • More interaction with your squadmates - as well as squadmates with other squadmates. I actually enjoyed the ME1 elevator converstions. They were sometimes funny, and sometimes informative. Also, during missions in ME2 your allies have little to no input whatsoever. I think they should get to voice their opinions more often or at least add to the conversation instead of stoically staring off into space...
  • More "assignments", or non-main-plot missions. It didn't seem like there were very many in ME2 compared to ME1, but I also included the Loyalty missions as main-plot missions. They pretty much are if you want to survive.
  • This is minor, but if there are any clubs/bars that we get to go to in ME3, I would like there to be different music in each one. Do not get me wrong, I <3 the Mass Effect OST (to both games) and I REALLY like the Afterlife club music. As a matter of fact it is currently playing in the background - but that's beside the point. I just found it odd that some bars/clubs had the same music...
  • More frequent auto-saves: Because sometimes when you blow through 20 enemies, there are no save points. If you die, that's another 20 more guys you have to kill. Maybe give an option to have the game auto-save every '#' minutes?
  • Make all armour customizable - even DLC. I'm sure even the BioWare devs have seen the complaints about "not being able to remove the helmet", etc. (Seriously, how does one drink/kiss/get recognized through a full face covering helmet?)
  • Need a ground vehicle. Personally I loved the Mako. I admit the planets got a bit boring after a while, but the Mako really opened the planets up (Once you got the hang of driving it, of course). You didn't really feel confined to one particular space - you could go to those mountains in the distance and drive up them with that awesome little tank. Even if its not the Mako, or maybe something similar (The Hammerhead?) Please, bring that back!
  • EDIT: Open up the galaxy - I need more awesome Citadel action! I loved it in ME1, the large amount of areas you can go, compared to ME2, with 1 part of a ward spanning 3 floors, one on top of the other, and ONLY 1 room on the Presidium. Same can be said for all the major planets (Illium, Tuchanka, Omega) They are such huge places, and we hardly get to go anywhere. I understand that this all contributes to the size of the actual game itself (in GB), but I don't care how many discs there are, I would really like to see a huge-a** galaxy to explore!

Dialog

The number one thing that I think most of us players wish to see is more dialog between the characters. There has been a lot of chatter about the story ME2 on the boards, specifically that the characters aren't as deep as the ones in the original. Obviously the characters in ME2 are just of complex as in ME1, but you don't get to talk to each one individually as much as in the first game. In ME3 I think all of us would like to see that. There are now plenty of squad mates to choose from, no more are needed, we just would like to be able to have more dialog with the ones we got.

Exploration

No one misses the Mako, but we miss the exploration. If the shuttle could take us to planets, directly to the point we are trying to get, and we could do the side missions like in ME1 that would be the best of both worlds. Don't misunderstand, the loyalty quests were great and I wouldn't mind them coming back in ME3, but they made up the meat of the game and side quest seemed to disappear completely.

Scanning

In ME1 resources were meaningless except to get more credits. In ME2 resources suddenly had a reason to be there but the scanning made it a giant pain. Third time 's the charm, right? Maybe instead of making us scan the planets, we can upgrade just from the boxes we find on the missions and/or buy resources with the credits we earn. I don't know, but the scanning really needs to go.

Open World

I understand the appeal of an open world at the end of the game, and I was even excited when I saw it in ME2, but the galaxy needs to change once you get to that point. Characters should no longer say "I understand if need to find some one else..." but something that matches the triumphant feat that your character just made in that universe, maybe comment on the future now that what ever they were previously saying has happened and not switch back to the previous loop. Not only should the crew dialog change but the cities and planets should also change. In ME3 the Reapers attack, so the cities should suddenly look like the Reapers did just attack and the people should act as such. Things like smoke funneling out of a partially destroyed building in the distance (something more like Zhu's Hope) and the random conversations on the streets that Shepard can overhear should reflect the "current events" of the Reapers being defeated (assuming they are). The point is, the universe should be different post game in ME3.

And if your doing a "open world" after you do/don't defeat the Reapers in ME3, then post game side quests (that periodically regenerate) should pop up. Something like clearing out raiders on X world, pirate attack on Y ship, Geth heretics attacking Z, and Oh look the raiders on X are back again... What's the point of an open world if there's nothing new to do?

Epilog

Assuming Bioware does an epilog, which they almost always do, I would like to make the request that we get to play though the epilog a little? Something to the degree of what happened in the end of DA:O. Since the epilog for ME3 would probably involve going off with whoever Shepard chooses as a love interest, maybe after the credits, if you do an open world post game like in ME2, the ship you travel can change based on that love interest. For example, if you choose Ashley/Kaidan you travel in an Alliance ship during the open world, Tali with a refitted Quarrian ship, Subject Zero with a pirated ship, Miranda you keep the Cerberus Normandy... something to further show off the choices you made.

1) Make biotics more powerful. They were a little too good in ME1, but they just plain sucked in ME2. They need to find a good balance.

2) More armor customization. There weren't nearly enough armor pieces. And we should be able to take the helmet off of DLC armor sets. It was really annoying that you couldn't change anything about them.

3) Better death scenes. The two possible deaths in ME1 were very dramatic and engaging. All of the death scenes in ME2 were laughably bad. They really needed to be improved.

4) Don't add an entirely new cast. We don't need ten more new characters. The 16 squadmates we already have are more than enough. Don't push these characters aside like Ash, Kaidan, Wrex, and Liara were pushed aside in ME2.

5) Better impact of choices. All the impact of the choices in ME1 were just a series of NPC conversations. Nothing we did in ME1 changed the story. Just having a bunch of emails, random cameos, and mentions of events in the galatic news isn't making the choices matter. They should actually affect the story.

That's all I got.

I would be very pleased if we had more banter. Spontaneous banter, while you're walking around the world. Maybe a few conversations like the one with Ashley and Kaidan on the Citadel at the first of ME 1.

That conversation alone - the one about how big the ward arms were, humanity measuring up etc. - added so much character, made me really buy into the game and the universe, and made choosing between those characters very difficult. I understand that Shepard is on a mission, and you want for there to be a cinematic pace, but just talking makes it all believable and more intense.

And banter. I think ME 2 did a good job of making individual perceptions of the world apparent, what with having the occasional, "Talk to Jacob/Miranda/Garrus/Thane" about the view on Ilium or the rubbish on Omega, because that had context to the characters, and it was interesting to have control over whether they said something to you about it.

But party interaction would be nice. To know there's a bond, even superficial bonding, among your party members. Or to, on maybe one or two occasions, be able to discuss something a party member says in context. I think ME 2 was better at portraying the opinions of each party member, but there wasn't enough of this to make up for there being nothing truly spontaneous.

Also, the auto-save system in ME 2 was brilliant.  More frequent auto-saves wouldn't be bad, but I enjoyed the combat well enough - it was dynamic enough - that I didn't usually mind reloading as much as when other games have made me reload.
