Give us levels that make us feel like we've accomplished something! (VERY IMPORTANT!)

In my opinion, ME2 has done a good job of making me feel more powerful.  Tough stuff is still tough, and by mid game, weak things are just toys.  I've never liked linking external game elements to character levels ("Sorry, only level 20 Shepards in here, level 19s are going to have to wait"), and while I know people hate level scaling areas, you must scale in some manner or the game becomes effectively linear.

figuare9 wrote...

Bring back the Inventory (upgradeable sizing)

This is really personal taste.  For the style of the ME series (sci-fi, realistic), I find the idea of Shepard pushing a cart of all the sniper rifles and armor he's found a little unrealistic.  Along the same lines, I find it unrealistic that there are dozens of weapons lying around in Malfunctioning Objects.  And why did anyone send a probe into space with a sniper rifle and an Omni-Tool stuffed into it?

Yes, there are lots of people who love RPGs with loot.  However, looting is not a requirement of an RPG.  It's actually one of the least believeable parts of them.

figuare9 wrote...

Upgradeable weapons/armor (The NEW fasioned way)

That sounds a lot like the current method.  I can see what you're saying, and some choice in what Level 4 Sniper Rifle Damage does might be nice, but it's not actually different in substance.

figuare9 wrote...

Where did the vehicle go!? Please. . . Give it back!!

I'm fine without the MAKO.  In fact, I'm slightly better than fine. I prefer taking the shuttle.  The uncharted planets were visually stunning, but for realism ranged from questionable to downright unbelieveable and the fun of driving up ridiculously steep cliffs waned within minutes.  I still love ME1, but I view the Mako as a mediocre element of it.

figuare9 wrote...

Please, Make the citadel larger.

I'm all for bigger areas, but I see no reason to focus on the citadel unless the story focuses on the citadel.  I'd rather have a large new area than to waste time on expanding the citadel because fans feel that it is important.

figuare9 wrote...

More Normandy fights!

Unless you're talking about fighting a group of enemies that has invaded the Normandy, I'll pass, thanks.  I'm just not interested in space battles.  No dogfights.  No cannon aiming.  No racing.  I'm not gonna say that it sucks, I'm just not interested.  I'd much rather Bioware spend their time elsewhere.

No.  Please no.

Unless they add a katana just so that it gets dulled on the first person you hit while every other enemy guns you down from 20 meters.

2. Expand on space travel. (i.e. flying through space, driving on land, more vehicle stuff)

No.  I want a story, not a flight sim.

I don't want Bioware to waste time, money, and disk space on letting me drive.  I drive every day.  I don't get to fight Geth/Collectors/evil humans every day.

No.

Just because I'm tired of all the obsession people have.

Tali unmasked would be amazing.. I think if you don't like it, then don't romance her? or make it something thats a side quest quest, not forced.

Well I for one miss the Mako. If it were tightened up a little it would've been a lot more bareable(sp?) the first game.

Also, more variation in skills. It kinda made me angry that I'd put so many points into each skill, only to see the end result, the "evolved" skill, be relatively the same for each skill. It either gets stronger, or it has an area effect. Quite boring, if you ask me.

And I don't think this is as big a deal, but I lived "M4, Pt. II" in the end credits of ME1, and I was anticipating an equally epic song for the credits of ME2, so I couldn't wait to hear what BioWare found this time around....and they just threw a game score in there. Come on, that was a letdown. :P

And I want the ability to actually FLY the Normandy, not just in a top-down view on the Galaxy Map. I think the Galaxy Map for ME3 should be fully rendered in 3D, and you fly the Normandy around that way. That'd be a lot more fun.

Fuel Depots, make them explorable. You should be able to land on each one, and refuel the Normandy, buy more probes, etc. And each one could have a little mini quest to embark on, or maybe a Borderlands-esque Bounty Board (without the annoying Claptrap telling you every 2 minutes there's new missions available).

LARGER FONTS THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY READ. I would also suggest for the choice wheel, since you're using a white font and it's often over a light background (from what I've noticed, making it even harder to read) outline the text in the choice wheel with black, so they still show up over extrememly light backgrounds.

This is a big one--I love scanning for minerals, I'm just weird like that. But how about varying the density of minerals on planets a little more? It seems like you have it set up like, "Okay, little planet--Rich, medium planet--Moderate, huge planet--Poor". That kinda took away from the experience a little, as all I had to do was find a little planet and I'd know it had a high density of resources.

I can probably think of more, but right now this is all I got. I really hope BioWare looks over this thread when they start production of ME3.

Simplicity is good as long as its not forced. There is nothing wrong with systems that do things automaticly so you can focus on the action. But for those who want to have more control there should be the options to do so. May it be inventory, stats or abilities

I always read "you cant please everyone". Well, no you cant. But there are two often opposing major factions: Shooter fans and RPG fans. It is infact very possible to please both factions if you leave the choice to the players how they want to play it. There is nothing to lose, only gain.

Going to say no on this- ME1's inventory was tedious and redundant. Upgrading your weapon only felt like it was making an impact at higher end upgrades, the new system is much better.

I despise the new system.  How the frak do I upgrade and change my party's armor?  TELL ME THAT?!?!

How the hell do I get Garrus not to wear damaged armor into a fight?  TELL ME THAT!?!?!

How the hell do I get Jack to actually wear armor?  TELL ME THAT!?!?!?

Lets use a bit of common sense here people.

Many good points. My thoughts of the RPG aspect of the game are very simple. I kept playing ME1 because of the off chance I could get level 10 armor, weapons etc. I enjoyed looting, playing, and diggin around for that perfect piece of armor. It kept me coming back for more. This is the system that I think would be great to have. I've maxed out my character/armor/weapons in ME2 already, and I've hardly had it a week. It took me months to get this kind of stuff in ME1. I don't want to get in the disagreement with people of how this isn't part of the game, or how its all about the story, because I fell in love with ME1 because it had this. I'd really like to see this come back.

How about this for ME3?

Give us back a mixture of squad mates, who survived of course, from ME1 and ME2... maybe a couple new ones as well, and then for ME3 have us go around and recruit the different alien species for a final encounter to save the galaxy.  Have us go to the Turian homeworld, the Salarian, The Elcor, etc, etc, and have us recruit them for this epic final battle, and depending on who we are able to recruit and how loyal they are to us and the fight, depends on how we do in that battle.  The council doesn't really like us, most species don't really like humans... I think that could be interesting... anyways, just a thought.

I think the new inventory is a good idea but how they let you choose weapons is kinda pointless. Any weapon I get is better then the previous weapon(excluding the heavy ones) except when I did advanced training for the sniper. I change that one back and forth depending on speed or damage. I think they should have gone the route they used on the armour with the weapons. Also I miss unlocking extra missions inside other missions. ME1 had a lot more side quests with decent backstories. I felt ME2 could use some more of those.

Just finished the game, loves it! My good old shephard died tho lol

I would suggest the next Mass Effect should allow players to fully customize their next 'Shephard', including the option to choose races. It will be a wonderful way to start a brand new shephard, tho would sound weird to have other aliens called a human name.

Would really love to see other races playing heroes, not only human in the next game

EDIT: oh yea! and able to visit Earth

Things looking forward in ME3:

New heat sink design, more balanced weaponry. If I can kill 30 guys with Max SMG ammo, I should be able to kill 30 guys with my heavy pistol loaded as well. If I have 600 ammo on my SMG, I should have more than 20 shots on my sniper rifle.

New leveling, If Bioware wants to go for a more console shooter approach, and decided to stick to what they did to ME2, and streamlined their design, please do so with sense. The new Leveling is not only much less depth and choices, its not any better than before. Sure, no one likes using a talent point for a 2% damage upgrade, but scaling it down doesn't do anything. I still need to waste 2 points in singularity and 2 points in pull, before I get my shockwave. A new way of mastery levels are also a good idea, Heavy warp or Unstable warp? Heavy throw or Throw field? Aren't both powers have the same kind of choices? MAKE IT MORE INTERESTING.

General Areas is too "tight quarters". I don't miss the mako, but at least give us some area like Virmire, where you feel like your on a battlefield, no more battle-corridors please. Omega also need a bit better atmosphere, same as the Citadel. Showing us the wards are great idea, but don't limit it to just that only.

Scale is off. ME3 is the ending, so I'm sure Bioware would make it as epic as possible, so I am not worried at all, but I got to say, ME2's epicness is just not there. The final battle against collectors might be cool, but it lacks the atmosphere of a crisis that affects the whole galaxy. Final Boss might be big, but ME2 is not the first game with big bosses, be a bit more creative with that please.

Commutation with squad mates, I hate having to run around the ship to see if they got anything new to say, asking them I would like to talk, and get a "I'm busy" response is annoying. Give some kind of hint that they are busy, so I don't have to ask. I feel like a loner guy on the ship who have nothing better to do than asking people to talk to me.

Unlocking Normandy's feature, please, give me a reason why I can't go the life support room when there are no one there? Its my ship, and I don't need someone in there before I can go in. It just doesn't make sense, and its not like there is any secret in it anyways, so don't lock it.

Improve Romance, Its just not that important, but its still a feature. In ME1, I barely feel like i'm flirting and have anything going with someone. In ME2, I feel like I'm talking to them, so I can have sex with them b4 I going to final battle. And why always just before final battle? Is it because Shepard can't save the galaxy without sex just before suicide mission? Bioware games already have a lot of cliches, we don't need anymore.

One thing that I would like to see in ME3 is more interaction between your party members. A way to do this that comes to mind is some sort of "Compatibility" system where each party member has a certain level of compatibility with every other party member.

It would work like this:

The more compatible two party members are with each other, the better they will function when together in your group. Each pair would have a starting compatibility (Miranda & Jacob would be fairly high starting out because they worked together in Cerberus for a while, similar notion for Garrus & Tali; Tali and Legion would be pretty low starting out due to natural antagonism, etc) which could then be either boosted or reduced throughout play.

Using two people in a squad together boosts their compatibility.
Resolving disputes between two members in a good manner boosts their compatibility.
Resolving disputes between two squad members poorly drops their compatibility.
etc, etc.

Person with a Spectre status should not be forced to fly across galaxy and personally walk to shops to get some better weapons and upgrades. If in 2010 we are able to do some heavy duty shopping in Internet, in the year 218X Extranet should be a source for almost anything for a connected Alliance/Council/Cerberus operative.

How to improve? Copy a system from for example Jagged Alliance 2: you can browse with your ingame laptop to a gun shop bookmark, order whatever is in stock/you can afford and they are delivered to you. Pinnacle station got the general idea but you could not pick the specific items yourself. Normal shops could still exist, for specialty items and so on which are not available via this route.

Other then an economy we can actually interact with I would like more armour options for my Party. Colour change was so incredibly lame... and Garrus's armour is still damaged when it changes... WTF? I think Shepard's Armour screen was needed for all members. Have basically the same armour for each Character but allow upgrades, helmets and customise colours etc on those members. I felt like this was intended and then dropped? I actually want this in DLC for ME2 not wait 2-3 years for ME3.

On that note, Personal weapons for certain Party members and more Personalised powers for each member. Grunt had a shotgun, that was nice. Garrus and Thane should have had sweet sniper rifles unique to each guy (that gave just them a modifier, so other characters can use that weapon, but only they use it with an extra kick). Samara seemed like she needed a Biotic Boomerang/Shuriken or something; enhances Throw with an actual object tied to her Justicar status, the animation would have been tied to the current curving Biotic projectile and its maxed ability could have hit 2-3 targets (Biotically charged Weapon). Little touches with big Atmospheric and personalised results.

Abilities:

Thane needed a multi-shot ability, like in the pause menu you can select 2-5 targets (lvl based) and after unpausing he would do some sweet assassin move and take out all those guys within a few seconds. Doesn't need to kill them but he would if they had no shields/barriers etc. Failing that they could have given him a unique Melee move.

Garrus should have had a Super-headshot with his sniper rifle that worked through armour.

Samara and Jack needed a super powered Biotic ability that was like letting off a mini-nuke but had a huge cooldown. (still not effective against certain protections but would wipe out anyone with just health.)

Grunt should have been able to charge people and get in there face on command... I haven't seen him do this by himself yet, so much for being crazy. Has anyone seen him charge into battle yet??

Miranda had Slam, that's fine, I thought maybe she should have had a Slam that also used Disruption mixed in.

Jacob, well I am unsure what would have been good for him. Probably a Soldier power tied to his Cerberus skill line. He was an Alliance Marine.

Tali had the Drone, that was cool, but seemed to forget other abilities from ME1 (a common issue for all old characters really.)

Zaeed had the grenade, that was actually a good choice.

Mordin could have had some kind of Nano-Cloud that was similar to the drone but his Incinerate and CryoBlast were good.

Just a Thought.

alright, i gotta say this....

how in donnelly's daddy-bags can anyone prefer the ME2 upgrade system? you say the original was redundant and didnt give you much choice....ME2 removes all choice. an upgrade pops up, you buy it. it applies to all weapons. in ME1 you could at least choose between HE, inferno, and snowblind...in ME2 you choose between nothing. you get the avaiable upgrade or not. thats your choice. armor is more or less the same variety if your only considering the last 2-3 endgame armors of ME; because all ME2 had was 2-3 choices. why does everone suddenly hate inventory in thier RPG now? because it was clunky in ME1, you want it gone forever? if your toilet breaks, do you scrap it and do your business on the front lawn? no, you fix it, or get a new one. you berate meaningless variety, but thats the only kind of variety in ME2's armor and weapons; which upgrade you choose is inconsequential because by the end you'll have them all, not one single thing to choose between, on top of that, you'll end up using the same weapon for each type because each weapon of a class is a direct upgrade.

please, stop making less variety seem like a good thing.... how anyone here can honestly say they dont want a choice in equipment is beyond me, this is the rpg crowd after all. inventory doesnt have to be baldurs gate epic or ME1 clunky, there are other ways to go.

- More to do on the Normandy, you hear several conversations going on but can't give any input, like someone else suggested perhaps have a debate going on that you need to settle, or perhaps a few small words to improve moral, Something to make me feel like I'm the captain and have an actual connection to the crew it doesn't have to be anything large but something small would be nice.

What needs to be in ME3: The option to keep your romance partner. Not like in this game where you can talk to Liara/Ash/Kaiden. Actually KEEP, as in they stay in the party. I really hope Tali stays D:

Systematically, however, I think the new combat developments need to stay as well. The new cover system, while sometimes glitchy, is vastly superior to the first. Going into ME2, I thought I was gonna HATE ammo. Turns out it's not that bad. Everything drops ammo, you can fight well enough even without guns, and the heavy weapons would've been impossible to balance without ammo.
Regarding noncombat: Planet scanning needs to go, or be much faster. It's completely ridiculous, but the resource system is interesting. I like that you can upgrade throughout the game, but I feel it could have been handled better. My idea: Instead of spending directly on a project, any resources you find are funneled immediately into research, letting it occur over time. Naturally, this would need some direction, so resources only go to about 4-5 projects at once, and the player can choose which 4-5 to focus on.

Also: I don't know about the rest of you, but I always run out of credits. Ending my first playthrough, I ran out of missions to get credits from, and I couldn't afford some of the amazingly expensive tech upgrades, and there was no way to get money other than watch Varren fight for hours.

... well, imagine fallout in a ME universe.

- Instead of different towns, we get different planets.

- Each planet is as big as those in Fallout3.

- A nice inventory system that is also realistic enough.

- scaling of enemy, that still have difficult ones here and there.

This is my personal Wishlist.

 Inventory:

The old ME1 inventory wasn't the greatest, but that it didn't deserve to be scrapped, what deserved to be scrapped was the omni-gel system. The new hacking system is great imo.

Uniques, Uniques, Uniques!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Personally my favourite part of RPG's is taking down that badass boss, and getting that crazy ass weapon or armor as a reward, and you feel the difference as you go into the next fight. Remember those badass dragon battles of BG2? I remember being so happy when I downed that Motherf*cker, and got a badass sword for a pally.

Speaking of BG2...:

Another thing I really liked in BG2 was that weapon smith guy, who made artifacts for you. This isn't really a big issue for me I just thing it'd be great to have a system like that.

Epic Boss battles:

Once again using BG2 as an example, the dragon fights are an example of an epic boss battle.

Sidequests:

I really like the direction of the sidequests in ME2, I personally hated the mako. In fact the only time I enjoyed it was on missions where you were driving it to get to a main quest location. Although I would like the sidemissions to be a little less linear, the dungeons in ME2 are an example of this. Also I would like some side missions, that were for the sake of looking for some loot, in the wise words of SuZe "Hey why the **** not?"

Basically I'd like the great elements of BG2(minus the combat and setting of course) integrated into ME3 for the epic conclusion or continuation of Mass Effect.

My Biggest wish: Make branching storylines with multiple endings. Make the two big decisions in ME1 and ME2 count for something more than just different paths leading to a same conclusion.
