Although Mass Effect 2 was a great game, there are definitely some points it needs to improve upon. Here is my personal list of pet peeves and things that should be changed in ME3. (in order from most irksome to least)

1) The Weapons system: I, for one, loved the weapons system in the first Mass Effect. I loved the thrill of getting a weapon that was just a smidge better than the one I had, getting used to it, and then finding an even better one. I liked saving up my money to buy it. I like the feel of a brand new weapon, too, not just upgrading what I had already. I still remember getting the stiletto pistol, and how cool that was. I'm talking TONS of weapons, not just a few in missions that you can't even buy.

2) Vehicles: Where did the Mako go? Sure, the driving was a bit weird, but I think we all prefer it to  scanning  planets for minerals. And, like I heard someone else say, all the (admittedly sometimes bland) exploreable planets made the game feel so big. Maybe you could improve upon the Mako a bit, too. How about a motorcycle, or better yet, a squad of motorcycles. How about actually driving the Normandy or landing the shuttle. Vehicles should also be used more often and integrated into missions. Nothing unnecessary, like when you launch the blackbird in COD black ops, but maybe some high speed chases in flying cars in the city. The Hammerhead is a good start, but how about something you can actually fly, or something that goes fast all the time. I don't know about other gamers, but I don't like hitting a boost button over and over. I think if some of these things appeared in ME3, almost all of us would be happy.

3) Drama/loss in story: I know some people like it, but I can't stand the thought of losing one of my team. It compelled me to cheat by looking up online what I need to do to save Thane,  Garrus, and the Geth dude. And when I lost Wrex, I felt terrible. I want some assurance that something I do (or don't do ) won't come back and stab me in the back.

4) Loading screens: It is a great game, and it takes it's time loading so it can be. But it couldn't be too hard to give us  something to do while we're waiting, can it? Elevators in the Normandy would be great, or something like the Matrix-fog loading screen in Assassin's Creed, where you can run around or shoot while waiting. What about a mini game, so you can play snakes, or pacman, on Shepard's omni tool when the Citadel is being rendered. The current loading screens are O.K., but they get monotonous fast and don't tell you what progress is being made.

5) Team size: I don't mind too much, but it would be pretty cool if  you could do something different with the size of your controllable squad. I felt guilty having 15 characters I never used. I've heard suggestions to have you control an army, and I  would like to have just a couple of people that I develop a close relationship with, but I would like to see you mix it up a bit in terms of teams. You must keep Garrus and Thane, though . I love those guys.

I just had an idea...

How about a planet creator... something that allows us to make our own personal world and post it on Xbox live, and download others if we want some more variety in the universe? It would have to be another gameplay mode, of course, maybe accessible from the main game menu, but wouldn't it be cool to create a little paradise, with a moon and a space station?

Please comment.

I want a ponytail with bangs! And I hope Shepard walks more lady-like. In ME1 it was actually ok, but in ME2 she walked all wonky and weird. I attributed it to her not being rebuild 100% right. Like maybe her hip was displaced or something @_@

I really have one... and only one... big wish. And unfortunately I can't see it coming true, as it would require a LOT of work. But anyway... I hope that just about every one of your squad mates re-joins your squad in an irreplacable role. There are some understandable exceptions:

the DLC characters

Thane "could" die

Samara has no real reason to hang around

neither does Jack (although being able to romance her makes this questionable)

and arguably Grunt could go help his clan

But for Garrus, Legion, Tali, Mordin, and the others to either have a minor role, or an easily replacable role, would be a smack in the face to all the fans and the story in general. For a game that prides itself on story and characters, to replace the entire surviving cast or have them reduced to minor or replacable roles (like what happened with Ashley/Kaidin and Wrex) would be inexcusable.

I understand exactly how much work this undertaking must be; they'd literally have hundreds of different possibilities to figure out... it would be a nightmare. But you know, I'm afraid that Bioware really brought that situation on themselves: as awesome as the suicide mission was, having it halfway through the story may not have been the wisest move.

Mass Effect 3 has the potential to be either one of the best games ever, or one of the most disappointing games ever. I'm really looking forward to it... but the cynic in me is preparing for the worst. I just hope Bioware doesn't let me and so many other fans down.

ThereSHOULD'T be a hdden count down timer to when the reapers in vade as it would ruin the last game in the trilogy and should in stead be triggierd as a mission so you can do everything you want to doi such as recruit the krogan by giving them the cure to the genophage and uniting the geth and quarians to work with you to stop the reapers.

I really, really like this idea. Something that would let you play on after the game was over, and add a little variety. Bioware really did a good job releasing the design tools for Dragon Age on the internet. Unfortunately you can only edit for PC, not consoles, but still the idea of building new planets with more open-ended missions is a great idea. Perhaps they could have a sort of auditioning process where they playtest new planets, then officially release a selection of them for free over the Cerberus network. Anyhow, good idea.

-A war involving the Normandy SR-2, Admiral Hackett and the 5th fleet at the Arcturus Relay that ends in the first breach of Charon Relay and the start of Sol being invaded. If you're Spacer, Hannah Shepard possibly dies in this battle.

-Smoother running animations for Female Shepard. She was a swift killing machine in ME1 and now she's a sluggish clunker in ME2.

-Shepard can be independant of all factions.

-If my ME2 file ends up as Garrus, Legion and Shepard, I should have the option of not having any other teammates for ME3. Makes the suicide mission more meaningful.

-Explorable planet areas like ME1, but after the initial invasion have the possibility of running into a Reaper who is searching worlds for life.

-Showdown on Luna.

-Damage to environments when in city-areas on Earth. Skyscrapers falling in the backdrops, cover becoming useless from taking too much damage.

-Homage to ME1 with a space walk onto the hull of a Reaper for infiltration.

-Better use of the ammo system. Ammo re-appearing on the floor after I picked it up breaks immersion. Also makes level design semi-useless and the game easier.

-More personality for characters. Mid-mission banter(LotSB great example). Characters that don't always agree with what you decide(Carth Onasi/Dark Side Revan example) with drastic changes. The ability to kick a party member off of your crew whenever you wish.

-Your overall choices in both games combined with ME3 choices being the overall outcome of the series instead of just choices in ME3.

Thanks for creating an epic space opera adventure, Bioware.

Hm... I remember hearing a while ago about some online action? Did anything ever come of that or was it just a rumor? I believe it sounded like a straight forward two teams fighting, like Alliance and the Collectors, not just a MMO.

Actually entering a live reaper would be very interesting. If anyone could pull that off, it's Shepard.

Shepard is still a Specter right? I'd like to see more happen with Shep as a Specter... or at the very least a sub plot formed by a series of Specter specialty missions, perhaps that offer something different from the traditional gameplay.

I'd also like to see more "one WILL die" decisions, and what their impacts are eg coordinates for the missiles, who did you kill? the residential district? or the factory?

More customisation: not so much with the armour, cus ME2s armour customisation was pretty cool, but like upgrading Normandy, more things that aesthetically change, and more changes over time, kinda referencing the Maggiore Villa in AC2. If you could purchase/are awarded your own small space station or some kind of landholding (spaceholding?) and you can upgrade it etc. Yeah that would be cool.

PLUS Pretty much everything Silmane said. Great list/post.

Want Hannar, Elcor, Volus team members... a Vorcha would also add a shade of evil to the crew... or maybe Renegades can recruit a Vorcha/Batarian whilst Paragons can recruit one Hannar or Elcor and sufficiently Neutral can get Volus.

Armor

1. Toggle helmet option.
2. Gear: Shephard his/her armor should be as in ME2, several parts.
3. The armor of the squadmembers should be as it was in ME1.
4. You should still be able to choose in ME3 which colors you want on your armor.
5. You should be able to change your hairstyle, beard or make-up on the normandy.
6. Bring back light/m/heavy armor.

Weapons

1. Bring back the ammo upgrades of ME1.
2. Introduce melee weapons and make melee combat more important.
3. Ammo limit of ME2.
4. Bring back the weapon stats of ME1.
5. Grenades.

Combat

1. New skill: Kinetic Barrier, the one that the geth or collectors have.
2. Aiming needs to improve you should be able to switch sides.
3. Bring back old abilities, weaponskills of ME1.
4. Exp/kill and missions.
5. The skilltreepoints of ME1 needs to return, ME2 had a lot less customization/options.

Story

1. In ME3 you should be able to choose who you want to work with. Cerberus, the council and/or the alliance.
2. A bigger focus on the main story.
3. More Normandy events.
4. New vehicle: a mechfighter.
5. Female aliens
6. Help the quarians to retake their homeworld.
7. Help Wrex.
8. Help the geth. I hope that in ME3 that I can spot a geth in a city.
9. Bring back the intimitate and persuade skillpoints.
10. class roleplaying.
11. Pure paragon/renegade should not be that important. Let the player make his own choices.
12. Your own base, house or appartement.
13. Video emails.
14. More interviews.
15. Possibilty to take out Aria and become the new boss of Omega.
16. At the end of ME3 Shephard should get a baby depending if he/she had a romance.
17. Cure for the genophage.
18. Cure for the kepral syndrome
19. There should be an arena in ME3.

Squad

1. Batarian squad member
2. Low amount of new squad members so that there will be more focus on the main story.
3. Increase the squadsize, instead of 3 up to 4. To balance this, enemies should be thougher.
4. Squadmembers can die early on in the game, more suicide missions at the start or at the middle of the game to keep ME3 realistic.
5. Hacking and electronics skillspoints should return, you should have a specialist in your squad.
6. Your crew on the normandy should not stand still or remain in their room. They should patrol, walk and interact with other people on the ship.
7. More missions where you can select a 2nd leader, specialist. More splitmissions.

Resources

1. New type of side missions in which you will have to recruit a small crew. You will be able to send groups out to planets and these will gather resources for you such as gas and minerals. These crewmembers will have their own upgrades and can die on one of these resource gathering missions. They cannot be squadmembers.
2. Remove probes.

Research

1. Upgrades should be researched by scientists in your lab. On your missions and travelling you will find instead of upgrades scientists that will increase the speed of your research. Once you have unlocked an upgrade you will need resources.

Pets

1. A robot to feed your pets.
2. More pets that you can buy or capture on your missions you should find all kind of alien/exotic animals such as reptiles, birds or even a varren or space monkey. You should also be able to customize what you prefer.

Mini-Games

1. ME3 should have a great mini-game. A cardgame that unlocks better cards and extra items. You should be able to challenge at least more then 50 people spread around the mass effect universe.
2.  Poker on the normandy as teambuilding.

Advent Rising, my favorite game ever other than ME, had an ability that allowed you to lift an object and move it around with the right stick. How about something like that, giving you more control on your throwing and lifting?

It's like a year too late to be posting any of this, but I have work to procrastinate, so I'll play.

-non-linear weapon upgrades/customization. A more streamlined version of the upgrades in ME1 would work; I agree the ME1 system was too cluttered, but neutering it completely was too much.

-bring back some semblance of an in-game economy, i.e. I want to be able to sell loot.

-planet scanning in its current form is still unacceptable. A better economy system might help coming up with a better way to do this.

-better HUD. Honestly, just bring back the ME1 HUD. Also, the Hammerhead needs armor/shields and a HUD. For god's sake don't bring back the Mako.

-elevators > load screens

-on that note, more squad banter à la DA:O. If this means fewer party members, so be it.

-only bring back "exploration" if it's like in Overlord. Ideally, all the N7/UNC missions would be structured somewhat like Overlord. I realize this is a ridiculous resource sink and will never happen, but one can dream.

-customizable armor for squadmates. Nobody cares if they look too much alike in combat. It's space. It makes sense. It's okay.

-helmet toggle/helmets automatically turned off in dialogue scenes. DA:O does this, I don't see why Mass Effect can't.

-free unlimited access to coffee for Jennifer Hale so she doesn't sound like she's half asleep again.

-speaking of Femshep, separate walking animations for her, for God's sake. I don't actually mind if all the other animations are identical, but women do not walk like men for anatomical reasons. Rilly rilly. Also, better slow walking animation for both Shepards and a walking animation for squadmates so that they don't jerk in and out of running, it looks silly.

-bring back the Citadel areas from ME1. Find an excuse. I don't care.

-less linear combat missions.

-more significant differences between ability specializations would be nice. They pretty much all seem to end with a choice of either larger AoE or more damage output now, and that's boring. Something specific to the individual ability, maybe, like Reave can either have, say, a 50% chance of insta-killing any enemy OR always drain 50% more health.

-better lighting and a 3/4 view in the character creator. Better yet, proper 360 degree rotation.

-no unskippable cutscene before the character creator. Seriously.

Uh, that's more than I thought I'd have.

I'm hoping for a variety of tasks and challenges for Shepard and team to take on.

A variety of missions would be outstanding; - from single or duo team member ninja missions, to squad based, full team, multi-team, single ship, multi-ship engagements, and even thundering ground attack and fleet actions.

There must be Offense - taking the fight to the Reapers where possible via interception or ambush.

There will have to be Defense - from the preview we can see that a Planetary Siege will take place.

So it's natural to assume that the Siege of Earth will have to be lifted and the attackers driven off somehow.

I can't help wondering about planetary defense lately.

What are the best ways to defend a planet ?

It seems to me that there will have to be Intrigue as well - to bring diverse groups into the fight.

How that happens remains to be seen. I'm hoping that the M.E. 3 team can allow multiple paths to achieve certain ends. I imagine the different means used to achieve those ends will depend on player Paragon or Renegade choices. Hope to see Liara help out there.

By now Shepard has met a large number of characters, and a few power brokers.

One of the very important Alliance Admirals has never been met with face to face - Admiral Hackett. ( With the able voice performance by Lance Henrickson !!! ) I hope some of these characters can be interacted with again - to advance the plot and action.

This one hopes that Shepard won't have to sling cash, bribes, sexual favors, threats and blackmail around like a D.C. lobbyist to achieve his ends - but I can imagine it happening. I'd rather take the Paragon route... "Hey - Udina - I've got a job for you !"

I'm also hoping there will be some exposition on Shepard's allegiances and backing.

Now he's got ties and connections all over the place - the Alliance, the Citadel, Cerebus, and other possible allies. Who will ultimately back him ?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay - now for a quote/joke from Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life".
A skeletal figure knocks at a door in an English village and announces...
"I AM THE GRIMMMM REAPER !"
"Who is it dear ?"
"It's one of the little men from the Village...he's here about the REAPING ?!!!
- I don't think we need any !"
I've said it before and I'll say it again, better AI!
An AI being able to recognize what attack would be most effective against a certain defence when given attack orders through hotkeys would be nice, it would at least help us console players to be able to avoid the powerwheel if we want to.
And of course recognizing incoming missiles and keeping their damn head down.
You know, after keeping an eye on this thread for soooo long one thought pops into my mind: why doesn't Bioware just close this thread down? Just stay with me for a moment. Absolutely EVERYTHING has been covered in this thread save for a few special exceptions, and Mass Effect 3 is well under way. Why bother keeping this thing going is another question that comes to mind. :P
