My wishlist:

1) More consequences for your dialog choices. Having to choose between two factions is good, with different rewards and future side-missions depending on your choice. Get rid of the paragon/renegade automatic dialog win buttons... silly that I can end any situation in my favor by aiming for either the red/blue dialogue. Sometimes that should backfire! Try and renegade a tough guy and get shot, ****** him off, etc...

2) New weapon upgrade system. Instead of coming back from a mission with 10 kinetic dampeners like ME1. How 'bout put ONE in the game, along with ONE heat sink, etc... then let you put two upgrades on a gun. bigger clips or more damage or better aim, etc...

Either that or an update to the ME2 system where you can choose which way to upgrade a gun class.  For example when you would upgrade SMG clip size you instead get an option: clip size or rate of fire?  Things like that, so you end up with a custom arsenal at end game.  Or have each weapon class has a list of available upgrades and each time you upgrade it the cost for the next upgrade gets exponentially larger.   So to have a fully upgraded gun would cost a lot, but if you just want a faster ROF you can upgrade that first on the cheap.

1. The inventory system in ME1 was rather clunky, I would love to see a improved one in ME3. One of my favorite parts of the game was being able too customize my weapons with different upgrades, and ammo. I don't miss the mako sequences, and the linear level play through too me is enjoyable. I would like more consequence from dialogue that would actually effect your situation in the game.

2. I also very much missed the absolutely epic space battles in the first one. I understand the small strike team/lone wolf kind of setting of mass effect 2, but the cinematic value of the battle of the citadel was unrivaled.

3. In mass effect 3, they should probably make access to guns less limited. I am by far, no fan of straight forward, shoot um up classes. I love hybrids, and the fact that i cant use the end-game assualt rifle irks me.

4. The Normany is one of the most unique things about mass effect, you really feel like you know the ship, and the crew inside it. Im under the impression a DLC will be releasing a vehicle, so im looking forward too that (if it doesnt handle like the mako).

5. The citadel is a fascinating place, from ME1 too ME2 they both made it better, and worse in ways. 1- The wards actually feel like a city, alive with commoners, and shops seeking customer. 2- they completely did away with the presidium, and council chambers, Why? The council was an important part of ME1, and were simply sidelined in the sequel (However, i think that has too do with my #6)

6. Make our decisions really matter! Thats how i felt in the 2nd one, and thats how i want too feel in the future. My first playthrough, i rushed it and lost alot of people (that isn't a spoiler i hope). The last hour of the game was incredibly exciting, i wasnt sure who i was going to lose next. It was a rare feeling, actually caring, and regretting, a feeling i felt in a game.

I understand sidelining the major decisions from ME1, because many people had no warning that the decisions would actually matter, and most aren't (I am) dedicated enough too go back and beat it, how i want it, but even im a little annoyed that if i start a new game with a class i hadn't used in mass effect 1 all my decisions would be made for me. I get trying to reward those who played the first one, but I did aswell, i just wanted to try new classes, AND have wrex alive, is that too much too ask?

I want too see earth aswell, and talk too the human president.

Anyways my rants over!

EDIT: If we don't get too see Tali's face, or any Quarian's face for that matter, I will be very very upset with bioware.

EDIT #2: Please keep legion, or something similar. Learning about geth culture, and how they think/work is fascinating. I would also like to see them, come out from the vail, in a peaceful manner, and try to talk things out with the council, it would be interesting to see how organics react, personally I think what the quarians did was bigotry at its finest, and the geth were perfectly right in there actions. Yet for machines they are very kind, they even take care of quarian graveyards, why would they do that? Obviously the quarians never thought to negotiate with the geth over the return/coexistence of there homeworld.

Here are my suggestions.

1. inventory system simply has to be in the game. it is a must-have characteristic of any RPG. make it with a limited space, so players would not able to stuff it with everything they find, and then make unlimited space for storage in Normandy, where players could unload what they find during missions. then you could make players inventory extendable, like through upgrades to the suit or skills when a new level is reached. and then to many things in the inventory could have some costs on players performance, like running speed doing down, or when near explosion, they fall on the ground and stand up with some difficulties. squad members could help to stand up or even carry the loot. in turn, gaining one’s loyalty could result in their willingness to help Shepard with his burden, or the amount of stuff they could carry for him. it also could be tied to characters class, race, or gender. for instance, female carrying less than male, or Salarian carrying less than Krogan.

2. ME2 does not have enough weapons, unlike ME1, which kind of has too many, although i would prefer ME1 quantity rather than ME2. keep the types of weapons, but make them more diverse, like having different damage rate, accuracy, range, number of clips, reload time, or time till overheating. cool thing would be if guns could be damaged when enemies shout at them when players shields are down. in addition, when you find a new gun, do not make it available for everyone as if you found ten of them. better include the ability to reproduce the gun for other members of you team via expending resources and/or credits.

3. upgrades for weapons should come separately for any criterion mentioned about, not in bulk like it is in ME2. players would be forced to choose one upgrade over the other, gaining some benefits but not others. this leads me back to guns, make some guns with one upgrade slot, and the others with a few. it also would be nice to see some visual changes to the gun once it is upgraded, but it is not necessary. i like how you can change the ammo type in ME2, and i would like to see it again in ME3. However, there is one more thing to change, rather than getting new ammo type when you get new level, it would make more sense to buy it as an upgrade, and then each next upgrade would include increase in the efficiency of that ammo as well as amount of credits you pay for it. the ability to use a particular ammo could still be gained as a skill during level increase.

4. the idea that each class has only some weapons they could use and special abilities is great. but instead of increasing abilities with every weapon at once, it is better to do it separately for each type of weapon, or even for each criterion mentioned above for every weapon. same principle can be applied to special skills. for example in adrenalin rush we could separately improve duration, accuracy, damage, or recharge time. plus, recharge time should be separate for every ability.

5. characters loyalty could be expressed way better. i already mentioned their willingness to carry an inventory. they also could heal Shepard, transfer their shields to him, jump in front of him when he is taking fire, or push him into cover. just do not tie these action to a particular character. it would be better if each character could do all of them randomly. on the other hand, if the squad member is not loyal, he could ask Shepard to heal him or simply steal a medi-gel from Shepard when they are hurt, or hide behind him or some place so they would not take fire. plus loyalty should change in both directions. you could lose it when you accidently shoot in character, broke up with them, or simply chose bad conversation options. in fact, mark a loyalty a dimension between ‘very loyal’ or ‘not loyal at all’. and keep unique missions for each character.

6. loved how Normandy changed. it is really for the best for it to be bigger. one important addition to it would be Mako. loved that vehicle. keep the shuttle, might come in handy. also keep, or even better, extend upgradability of Normandy, not only shields, armor, and guns, but also engines, stealth system, maneuverability, etc. also, a nice thing to see would be an accumulation of containers in cargo hall as you find more resources.

7. ditch that radar in planetary exploration. it was a nice idea and fun for first ten planets, but then it just became annoying.

8. dialogs still look quite artificial. facial expressions and gestures need improvement. and please, do something about Shepard’s smile. it gives me goose bumps. and Taylor mouth looks like it is going to jump out and bite me, just like in Alien.

9. of course, the story is the big ‘must’ it ME3. it has to make me cry. ME2 was closed to that but it did not succeeded.

10. add more dialogs with a lot more NPC, not only those that you met in previous games. and they have to be related to the main story. in addition, it would be nice to find out more about characters’ past.

11. ME3 has to be longer, more beautiful, more epic… music is important aspect. so far it was amazing.

most important, do not make the fans wait. I would ask to release it next year, but we all know that it is not going to happen. so, i think two years should be enough to make all improvements and figure out how to finish the trilogy.

There needs to be no break in game play for loading screens, it is better to hide loading time with animations, like the elevator rides and the door scanner, it would be really great if lets say, you walk up the boarding ramp to the Normandy, you go into the airlock, the door closes behind you, the scanner starts, it scans you a few times, the inner door opens, you go onboard, NO apparent loading, it should be the same with landing on a planet, the ship arrives in orbit, you go to the armoury and get your gun and armour, you get on the lift, the lift goes down, you get off in the shuttle bay, you walk up to the shuttle, open the door and get in, the shuttle takes of and flies into the planet, with you sitting in the cockpit, when it arrives at the open map you take control, and choose where you land, you get out and start the mission, once again No apparent loading.

The only thing I would suggest is a ME:3 collectors edition somewhat like halo or modern warfare 2, with an N7 helmet, preferrably full size but I wouldn't mind a bust like shepard has on his desk in game. I would pre-order it without hesitation if they included it.

The first mass effect's release in Poland had the best extras of any game I've bought so far: Instructions and a walkthrough, Mass Effect themed postcards, N7 T-shirt, Artbook, USB flash drive with Mass Effect logo, Mouse pad and a Mass Effect keychain. For mass effect 3, I would be more likely to get the collectors edition if it was something like this. Maybe a classic style mass effect N7 shirt or (highly doubt it, but would love to see it) the new hoodie version, the artbook, and have a speciel collectors edition (or some such thing) that contains all that and a helmet bust.

I doubt we'll see anything like that, I'm happy with the contents of the mass effect 2 collectors edition, but I would be much more satisfied with what I've listed. And it's not like they'd be given away free, the halo legendary edition and modern warfare 2 editions with the helmet and goggles were something like $200.

Anyway, as for the gameplay, the suggestions in the first post are pretty much all I would like as well, as well as doing away with those clips and putting in some other system or just bringing back a modified version of the old one. Maybe have the weapons heat up and then either let them cool off or have the option to dump the heat instead of clips. And more damn sidequests. I miss doing little random things in mass effect, except for the way the mako handled on a sheer cliff: all it needs is some boosters that go out the back and it would be perfect.

Anyway, I look forward to being ignored by Bioware and being most likely flamed by other users.

Side quests:
They felt very linear in ME2 and while I understand that each and everyone was much more relevant to the story line, making the levels at least /feel/ less linear would go a long way.

Scanning planets for minerals:
Whoever thought this would be fun is an idiot and needs to be smacked over the back of the head with the degree that he thinks entitled him to put such boring crud into something as otherwise refined as ME2.

Seriously I found myself dreading travelling to another star system at times because I knew there would be a hoard of new planets I would have to circle around scanning for resources, I would rather have pulled my teeth out over scanning any more planets.

On the other hand I enjoyed detecting anomalies planetside, if the mining game had used this sort of technique, eg a rich planet has 4 major resource deposits and you use the anomaly detecetion method to find them it would have made it feel more tolerable.

Citadel and Illium:
For giant space hubs they felt really really small, I think the entire citadel area in ME2 could probably fit within half of the wards section from ME1, this is moving backwards!

Impactful consequences:
This is the third and final act. As commented by the developers, I truly hope that our choices lead to diverse situations and endings. Everything I did or did not in ME and ME2 should define my gaming experience in the sequel.

Deeper interaction with your LI:
It has been stated quite a few times. Make the player care for his or her LI by interacting deeper with him or her. More dialogues, a second character quest, in-game interaction such as being able to dance with him/her in the club.

Reward the player with something more than a sex scene.

A more meaningful relationship between your squadmates!
Even if that means bringing back to life the elevator...have your squadmates talk to each other sometimes!

Epic ending
Shouldn't be a problem to achieve, for the guys over at Bioware are very talented.

Since this is my first post here I`d just like to start by saying ME2 is one of the greatest games I have ever played, that covers about 20 years of gaming here.

With that out of the way, for ME3:

- Please save the active weapon ammo throughout the game. It`s somewhat annoying to have to assign it at the start of each mission for all weapons over and over again. In case it`s for some reason needed to be able to have no ammo-type assigned at all, just make the respective skills toggle-able.

-I hope the story / game structure will be less obvious. Somehow playing ME2 I kept seeing the basic gamedesign doc, starting with Illusive man, branching out to 2 missions per team member, and then collapsing for the final mission. So basicly it`s 95% preparation, 5% core mission. Actually that`s fine for the middle part of the trilogy, but the final needs to be much more centered to the main story.

-More armor / casual choices would be great. However, I like how armor stats are reduced to the point where you don`t have to care about them but go by the looks.

-To back up the OP: The Normandy landed on a planet, being able to leave/enter it yourself, maybe by vehicle would be great.

-As for the topic of relative linear levels on ME2: I think at the bottom line it`s a good thing, aiding the gameplay. If it`s going back to more explorable levels on ME3 it should at least remain clear where to continue a mission and where to go off-path for exploring.

- More side missions

- Much, much more main story

- Longer companion side missions, perhaps not starting and ending in a single location

- Background and Profile specific missions (maybe even companions). E.g. War Hero/Ruthless/Sole Survivor missions have a consequence in ME3.

- Less new companions, instead consolidate all the essential previous companions and add some new ones.

- More armour customisation, weapon customisation.

Mass effect is hands down the very best game I've ever played. I enjoyed the trilogy so far and look forward to the next more than ever. I'm creating this topic as a goal for the community to reach out to Bioware to make mass effect 3 the very best it could ever be. ME2 Seemed to suffer a little bit in areas that ME1 thrived in. These are a few things that I personally would love to see in mass effect 3. Although I'm well aware we all would like different things, it'd be great to have a few things back from ME1. Things that really made it shine, and possibly some new elements in the mix as well. I feel as if ME2 has gone too far into the FPS-Action only, and will probably have hardly any RPG aspect in ME3. If we don't correct it soon, it'll be too late. With that said, here's some things that I would love to see in ME3 to really give us that RPG feel.

TC, you just hit the nail on the head

I agree with the OP 100%. The mission part is the worst IMO. I like to get things done in a group or just wander into new assignments and carry them out while playing. Completing a mission and being teleported back to the normandy blows.

I'm on the fence about this.  I agree with you with the fact that you would be able to wander around, but sometimes it saves a lot of time.

For example, if ME2 had a Feros clone mission, would it really be fun to go through all that just to get back to the Normandy?

1. More depth!
I liked how they changed the inventory and weapons system in ME2... yet, it felt incomplete. Add lots of weapon variations, as well as armor. I'd like upgrades to be more in depth as well, especially for weapons; let us customize scopes, addons, etc...
More depth can be applied to virtually any aspect of ME2, now that ME2 is polished and gameplay systems are set in place, add larger levels, more customization, and more skills to ME3.

2. Please, leave vehicles to die, or at least in a minor role.
I absolutely hated the Mako in ME1 and was overjoyed that I wouldn't spend 10 hours of my precious ME2 gameplay driving around a boring planet, just to get to a small hub consisting of two rooms. If vehicles are revived, make sure they play a minor role, maybe a couple hours of gameplay and travel; don't make me fetch pointless garbage, roaming over a bland environment, just for the sake of doing so. Overall, the Mako ruined much of ME1 for me. Oh, and please, make vehicle roaming optional.

3. Bigger hubs
I liked how ME2 had many, many, different diverse levels; keep this design in ME3... BUT! At least have two or three LARGE, hub-like areas where we can relax after every couple missions, maybe pickup some side quests, and visit merchants. Omega and Tuchanka really weren't that big, they essentially consisted of three hallways. At least make something near the size of the citadel. Oh, and make sure merchants stock up on new items after every couple missions, please, I was saddened by the fact that I had purchased nearly every buyable item in a few hours.

4. Allow us to visit older areas
I think the thing I was most looking forward to in ME2 was how older areas changed since ME1. Let us go back to the Citadel, see the updated shops, the reconstruction, etc... I hope ME3 allows us to revisit areas such as Omega and Tuchanka.

5. Tactical Combat
I'm going to be completely honest here, and say I have no clue on how to fix this problem. I'm going to just point it out and hope the devs can come up with something creative for ME3. I felt the a major problem in ME2 was the way every combat situation panned out... Your team lines up behind crates. Enemy lines up behind crates. Shoot enemy when they pop out of crates. Period. :(.

6. ***Building Infastructure (my favorite)
Ditch the Mako and planet scanning, instead, add a little pinch of RTS to the Mass Effect universe. Allow Shepard to industrialize rich planets, creating new building types to harvest resource, bring in cash; and at the same time, dishing out credits to build, hire workers, and even hire guards to protect his investments. You could even create a system somewhat like the Godfather 2, where the game creates random outposts and infastructure on certain planets, operated by merc groups or something. Shepard can attack, and take over Merc infastructure, taking over management of the facility, and in turn, merc groups could attack Shepard's facilities. He can A) go defend one of his bases himself, or send some unused squad members to deal with the problem. They could end up failing, and be knocked out for a period of time or something. All this ends up generating resources that your research team can churn into upgardes.

This..

I have faith Bioware guys can weave a wonderful story to end this epic saga.
My only concern is turning some of the best most interesting characters, despite their survival in ME2, into NPC's that have to something else besides fight alongside you.....

just because it'd be easier on resources.

it would be just sad and epic fail for them to just turn all or most of the ten members into NPC's just because they might be dead in someone elses playthrough.

Oh man. Let's see...

1. As cheesy as it sounds, I'd like for us
to be able to carry on our love interests. I didn't start a romance
subplot until ME2, but from what I hear, the continuation of ME1 LIs was
kind of disappointing in ME2. Depending on how ME3 starts, one might or
might not be WITH their chosen partner at the beginning of the game, so
maybe even a separate opening for those of us who chose to romance
someone? Maybe Shep is sleeping, and his/her alarm goes off, and the
camera shows the arm of the loved one reaching over to turn it off or
something. Do they have alarm clocks in the Mass Effect universe? Hmm.

Anyway,
I don't expect you folks to actually, uh, use THAT cheesy scenario, but
something like that, maybe. And for those of us who cheated, maybe the
opening of the game could include a confrontation. Heh.

2. The
current squadmates. I'm very happy with the pool, and I'd like to see
most, if not all, of these characters return. I didn't expect to like
half of them as much as I do, but I DO, and I'd be kind of disappointed
if they replaced in ME3. I'd understand if certain squadmates have to
go, or if there is a need to add one or two new ones, but I'd much
prefer to generally stick with what we've got.

3. Oh man if we
could visit the quarian homeworld I would be so happy. I'd love to see
the geth base of operations, maybe get a chance to meet the rest of the
gang (and by "gang" I mean the several million [billion?]
consciousnesses that compromise the geth). Really, anything that delves
more into Legion's buddies, I'd be happy with. The geth have been one of
the most fascinating races from day 1, and the more info and
interaction with them, the better, in my book.

4. I loved a lot
of the set pieces in ME2, especially on Jacob's loyalty mission. I'd
like to see us heading out off the beaten path, maybe exploring old
jungle ruins, Indiana-Jones style. Not sure how that could be relevant
to the plot, but I'd certainly love to explore some more rough,
uncivilized environments.

5. I like the idea of exploring a
planet like a toy (as someone described in an earlier interview for ME2,
prior-release), but the scanning was kind of tedious. I say, don't give
up on the idea! Tweak it. Make it faster, flashier, more interesting to
look at and interact with. Maybe start with unexplored worlds as grey
and indistinct, and as you move your scanner over the, they develop in
detail and complexity. A zoom feature on significant landmarks or other
interesting features would be cool, in my opinion.

6. THAT
THING, WHAT YOU DID, MAKING ME2 LOOK MORE LIKE A LIVED-IN PLACE, WITH
THE NPC,S AND THE ADS, AND THE COMPLEX BACKGROUNDS. YES. KEEP DOING
THAT.

Those are the requests that come to mind immediately. I
have quite finished embarrassing myself!
