No more scanning, please...
I liked gathering materials for upgrades, but having to scan was just a pain in the ass. It really took away from the game. Considering you have the entirety of Cerberus behind you, is it too much to ask for them to get a mining team down to these places?
What do you think the probes are for? I guess, I'm the only one that assumed that the probes were just telling a mining team where to dig and you were 'marking your territory'. If you think about it, with the time table of the main quest, you wouldn't have time to set up a full mining expedition. I figured you marked the area and Cerberus would reinburse you for the find, not so much that the items were on ship. Heck, the research may not even be done on the Normandy, but on a cerberus base somewhere and you just call them up and tell them what you need. Just how I saw it. That being said, the scanning did draw me out of the game somewhat.
Now, what else I'd like to see.
- The same inventory system as in Mass Effect 2. But let me hunt down more armour parts, heck, even getting new weapons that way. I really enjoyed searching for new armour pieces - it changed my look, and let me change my defenses/powers slightly depending on the mission.
- Change the thermal clips. It's not that I don't mind the idea, but I think there could be a way to combine the first and second games ammo systems. They don't really go into the technology, but heat sinks do cool down. So why not keep the removable heat sink, but carry a limited supply (since they are universal for every weapon) but, you can also not fire your weapon for a bit, an actuall cool down If you're in an intense firefight, you can swap clips, if you're not you can take your time and make your shots count without out swapping. This seems like a happy medium between the two systems. Heck, if you do it this way you've just got another tech upgrade to get - improved heatsinks.
- Larger hubs. I miss the citadel, and Zakera (sp?) ward felt small to me. Please bring this back, then again, it depends on the scope of Mass Effect 3.
- Less, scanning/driving for minerals and more making alliances to gather resources. Once again, this depends on the plot of Mass Effect 3, but I'd rather see me getting resources for doing missions from my allies to upgrade my ship/tech. This will bring me to my next point:
- Make the focus of the game getting allies/rallying people to your cause at least to the paragon path. I figure this is the idea behind the third game anyways, as Paragon you're going to, get lots of allies to aid you, as renegade you're going to sacrifice them and keep humanity safe. But by getting allies/manipulating them you get resources for doing missions from that group. For instance, if you do a mission for the Alliance you garner favour from that faction and maybe upgrades to your ship. You do something for the Krogan and you get their favour and some armour tech, or resources, etc. Heck, maybe krogan marines for your ship. Etc.
- Make the game twice the size of the previous games combined - I know a lot of work, but it would be worth it. Give me a 60 hour game for the main quest, because we're uniting the galaxy to fight the biggest threat they will ever face. Heck, even a more sandbox style game.
- Loyalty missions - but with more than one outcome. ie the become loyal, disloyal, perhaps even die/leave service? Heck, If the game went they way I want, see above, you'll have 'ambassadors' from each group and have to get each faction loyal to you by doing said faction 'ambassador's' loyalty quest(s)
- Ammo types, not a skill, but another tech upgrade to research. Especially since the animation to these 'skills' seems to be hitting a few buttons on the weapon, and the maxed out skills provided it for the squad.
- Logical continuance of all possible Mass Effect 2 storylines. Is Shepard's storyline done? If so, will there be a protege/replacement? If so, we need a VERY good tutorial/start mission to get us to care about this new character as much as Shepard.
Well, that's all I can really think about for now.
