I haven't read this entire thread so please forgive me if I'm repeating what others have said...

This is my wishlist/gripelist, some are practical, some not, some i've posted elsewhere and others i've just thought of, but I hope they give anyone from Bioware that reads it, pause for thought even if they then tell me to bugger off .  Image IPB

Warning, it's going to be a bit long and nothing in this post is meant to be taken personally despite my going off on one in places.

Despite my misgivings before it's release, I really enjoyed ME2, but I just think it needs a lot of work to match ME1 in terms of replayablility.

1 :  Helmet toggle.  There i've said it, moving on... Image IPB

2:  Talimance for Female Shepard.  There, i've said that too, moving on again... Image IPB

3 :  The damage veins.  I hate them, ME2 is not a first person shooter so they just don't fit in properly and I think they look like they were scanned in from a childs crayon drawing, damage indication could have been handled a heck of a lot better. Image IPB

4 :  The ME1 Combat GUI was fantastic, it gave you everything you needed to know in a clear and concice manner. What was so wrong with the way it desplayed health and shields that you had to replace it with one that looks amaturish and confuses the heck out of people? Image IPB

5 :  Can I please have the maps back?  At the moment we only have maps for the hub worlds and they're a bit too over the top with graphical detail, the simple level and mini radar maps made a hell of a difference to ME1, why did they disapear?  Image IPB

6 :  I'd love to have a researchable item that either speeds up or automates scanning.  At the moment it really breaks immersion having to stop and spend 20mins on a planet just to mine a bit of ore.  ( Not to mention that we shouldn't really need to anyway - TIM paid billions bringing Shepard back and building the Normandy, a few million more for research and equipment would mean nothing to him. Image IPB )

7 :   "Press LT to launch probe"  Yes I know that, it says it on screen underneath the  "Press LT to launch probe"  popup. Image IPB  Can I have a way to turn off the annoying popups?

8 :  The transitions need improving.   In ME1 I could move from location to location and it was almost seamless thanks to the close together locations and the elevators, and I really miss being able to exit through the airlock as though I was actually doing it.  In ME2, the loading screens and the way we seem to teleport between randomly placed locations just makes the game dis-jointed and breaks immersion.  Image IPB

9 :  Can I please stop undocking everytime I go back to the Normady? It's a pain in the backside having to go to the map to redock again.

10 :  The end of mission screens are really annoying and break immersion. They could be moved to a tab on the personal terminal with a small codex like popup informing that "A mission report has been filed."

11 :  Auto returning to the Normandy and "Press B to end mission"  are really starting to get on my nipples, is there anyway to turn them off?  It breaks immersion for me, I haven't finished looking around yet, what's wrong with walking back to the Normady or using a transit terminal?

12 :  A proper armour system or protective skinsuit for each team member. The way it is now -  having someone wearing almost nothing and giving them an oxygen mask when in deep space, is stupid,  from a warfare, physics, game immersion and visual point of view. It's almost as if you couldn't be bothered. Image IPB

13 :  The current weapon, armour and mod system really needs reworking,  and again i'm sorry but for me it just comes over as "We couldnt be bothered!"   I would have liked to see something like the following.

- Armour and weapons should use the stat systems of ME1.
- Ammo types should be mods, but activate like abilities as they do in ME2.
- Each weapon and armour has a variable amount of upgrade slots.
- Upgrade slots can be used for either mods or ammo, only one of each mod can be installed but you can take multiple ammo types.
- Items are bought from shops as either finished items which cost a lot of credits, or blueprints which cost a smaller amount but are created using mined resources back on the Normandy.
- Aquiring or manufacturing a finished item gives you enough for the whole team.
- Each mod and ammo type has only 1 level but this can be improved permenantly through research on the Normandy.
- Mods and ammo can only be installed at the ships armoury or weapon loadout points.

14 :  I really dislike the thermal clips. If an ammo system had to be included then I would have had it like this:

- Keep the heat buildup and cooldown as it was in ME1 but have the ability to flush the heatsink with coolant if you wish.
- You can only carry so many coolant flushes and they are universal for all weapons.
- Each coolant flush allows for 1 instant cooldown.
- Cooldown on it's own takes three times longer than it takes to flush the heatsinks.

15 :  Although the infinate health thing doesn't bother me too much I personally would have liked the following:

- Keep the MediGel for healing as in ME1 but also for Unity.
- Instead of an instant health boost it regenerates it over time. This way it would stay in canon with ME1 but remove "spam insta-health MediGel in combat" from the game.
- Without MediGel, health regenerates on it's own but twice as slowly.
- As MediGel is used for both reviving team members and healing, you have to choose where and when to use it carefully.

16 : The exp and leveling system needs changing, ME1s xp for kills and gradually increasing amounts needed was far superior to ME2s crappy level up after every mission fiasco. Image IPB

17 :  Power cooldows should not be on a universal timer, it just promotes spamming of a single ability.  Why would you ever use power X when you can use power Y every time?

There, i've said my bit, hopefully it wasn't too long.  Image IPB

-EDIT-

Added a few things that people just remided me of.  Image IPB

Image IPBI agree with some of the above comments that scanning sucked ass i did like however that Matts could be found throught quests and side missions maybe more of that should be done instead and an increase in some sort of loot system again so instead of farting around the galaxy looking for minerals i can be a true lazy gamer and use my space money and either hire some ingame merchant to buy sell or trade for matts or make an evil choice to hire battarin slavers to get it. Image IPB

P.S. More small side quests would be nice if im going to spend an hour in ME3 again scaning planets till my thumbs hurt.

-Get rid of misson complete crap plz, for the love of buddy christ!

-exp per kill

-some kind of inventory

-explorable planets

-able to use more than 1 power at a time.maybe powers have classes(ammo, armor, biotic.tech)

-the sound track and planet exploration in ME1 made the universe feel huge, sometimes desolate and scary, bring it back!

One thing to add is that it would be awesome to see the impact of our previous paragon/renegade actions on how different species'/races unite (or don't) against the Reapers and how it will impact survival rates. Now that would be an awesome way to carry over the effects of our previous decisions.

What do you think the probes are for?  I guess, I'm the only one that
assumed that the probes were just telling a mining team where to dig
and you were 'marking your territory'.  If you think about it, with the
time table of the main quest, you wouldn't have time to set up a full
mining expedition.  I figured you marked the area and Cerberus would
reinburse you for the find, not so much that the items were on ship.
Heck, the research may not even be done on the Normandy, but on a
cerberus base somewhere and you just call them up and tell them what
you need.  Just how I saw it.  That being said, the scanning did draw
me out of the game somewhat.

What I meant was, you should be able to just setup mining bases on planets and at regular intervals, or at the end of every mission, you get extra resources and money, instead of having to scan the damn thing and then ship off a probe. It can take you about ten minutes to do a solar system, which is ten minutes less of running and gunning and shooting and story development and finding the anomalies.
In most playthroughs I now just send one probe per planet, get all the ship upgrades. I usually have enough by the end of the game to get one weapon to max if I concentrate on it alone.

Let's see:

  • Separate animation rig for femShep(stop! This does not mean she needs to swagger into a room and turn every head, but kindly acknowledge that even with professional soldiers, women move differently than men).

  • More femShep specific dialogue in places. Again, no sultry seductress, but there were times where you could easily have made things a bit more different. Jennifer Hale can obviously pull it off - she made the Renegade lines creep me out while I laughed at the cornyness of Mark Meer's delivery.(Personal preference, I do not hate Mark Meer, I just like Hale's take better).

  • An animation rig that recognizes the class and weapon abilities of Shepard and squad. This may seem like a nitpick but as BioWare put more into their cinematics, the flaws tend to stand out more - Having an Infiltrator magically waving an Avenger assault rifle around in cutscenes takes away from the immersion and the same goes for the NPCs - suddenly everyone is sporting Avengers, even though the game design mandates they can't use it. Joker is alright, but he's not specifically denied assault rifles for the rest of the game.

  • Better spacing of dialogue. This was raised after ME1 but it really takes away from the ability to relate to characters when they run out of things to say after one conversation or if you're not romancing them. Jacob and Miranda especially suffer from this as you can exhaust 85% of their dialogue before Horizon(two conversations), then they will have you do their sidequest, one follow-up talk and then...nothing - even with romances. Dragon Age: Origins did a far better job of making me care about all the party members. You really need to work on this.

  • Consistency regarding the romance scenes. No,  I do not equate nudity with "mature" games, but the fully-clothed sex scenes are jarringly bad. The scenes with Jacob, Garrus and Tali were well done, so either do them all like that or go back to the ME1 method of playing with camera angles when the characters are nude.

  • Rewrite or get rid of Subject Zero: After seeing the Paragon "romance" on Youtube I can honestly say that it was the most disgusting piece of healing-penis male fantasy I have seen in ages, and I say that *as* a male. Would not *ever* want to play that myself.
In terms of the actual gameplay it was pretty good, however:

  • RPG/Exploration elements wittled down to almost nothing. I complained frequently about the MAKO and I did that  because of the awful physics model and the fact that every location you landed on was a reskin of the previous. There is a long way from that to what you did in ME2 where you *always* land and do another liniar mission. It's not exploring as much as it's just playing through levels. I would personally recommend a mix of the two models - the extra levels do have their place but you also need to bring back true exploration on *varied planets*

  • The level-up system and the weapon selections were likewise underwhelming - again, a hybrid between ME1 and ME2 would be very desirable. Not the total item spam of ME1 but give us the chance to find more upgrades and new armors. And please - give us the ability to look up stats!

  • Stop shipping the game with a meager selection of armor pieces and then only offering extras as promo DLC which isn't available outside North America. I've a good mind to tell BioWare and EA to immediately release all the Dr. Pepper promo items for free for all Social Site users outside North America, since we have no other way of legally getting them, and there's barely an in-game selection without them.
And finally, the Collector's Edition content was severely underwhelming. While I was thrilled to see interviews with cast and crew, that quickly turned to disappointment once I saw that it was basically just promo talk about how "hip" the Mass Effect universe is - more of the same marketing speak we'd seen for months up to release, in other words. This seems like a wasted opportunity - you had all the actors in the studio, for the returning cast members you could have put together a feature on how they felt their characters had changed since the first game and it would easily have been more interesting than what was actually on the disc. Furthermore, using space to include the same old trailers and wallpapers which had been available for months on the BioWare site just seemed lazy, I would much rather have seen you use that space for the aforementionened in-depth documentaries, because there honestly wasn't anything in what you had on the disc that I hadn't seen in one of the millions of statements you put out as marketing - talk about how it's the "Darker Chapter"  etc? Come on - we heard that from Day 1, you can do much better. For these kinds of things you're supposed to show us stuff we don't know - not just give us stuff that re-hashes the marketing. I will give you a plus for talking to both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale, though.

1 - Liara return. (for me : THE weak point in ME 2 even if redemption may give more informations about that)

2 - Romance conclusion. (depending on loyalty, treason...)

3 - more quests with the same quality ;).

4 - For the other things : I can't find the words to say how much I'm impressed.

Gameplay and story : *-* AWESOME.

In playing the game there are a few things that i found kinda weird that werent put in:

1) no stats on the weps: where i noticed it first was when i got the first new shotgun, the hand pistol had said "upgrades the predator" so i knew it was better but the shotgun didn't so i was staring at the two of them trying to figure out which one i should equip to my squad. just something like damage and range, maybe firing rate and clip size(noticed that was the big change in the second sniper) would be enough doesnt need to be to fancy.

2) health and shield indications for teammates: kinda annoying that i have to wait till someone dies to know that i should use unity to heal them

little side note: why can you only have 1 type of fish in the aquarium? i was hoping to make have a bunch of different fish until i got something like a shark that would just eat them all.

There are indicators showing Health and Shield Strength for your allies, though they aren't as clear as they might be, I guess. A shield indicator shows when they're taking fire, and their pic turns red when they are taking damage.

Likewise, you can have a pretty big variety of fish in your aquarium, all at once, just as you desire.

I'm sure these have been mentioned somewhere along the line, but I'm not rereading 65 pages of posts. I've bolded and italicized to make my main quibbles stand out.

One of the biggest misses that jumps out at me is the lack of new character creation options. When I first saw Kelly's hair, I thought: "sweet, there is one of the new hairstyle options I've been wanting". Needless to say, that ended in my being disappointed.

As an Xbox owner, I can't even mod my files, as the PC players are doing, to get ahold of those nice NPC hairstyles. Wouldn't it have been pretty easy to allow access to those same styles for PCs? Is it feasible to get such as DLC? I'm pretty ignorant as to the viability of such a thing.

I find newly created Male Shepards are still ridiculous looking no matter what I do, so I always stick with female Shepards if I wish to create a new face. Even then, only a few viable/likable looks emerge. Please, more character creation options.

I loved the new equipment system. I found it infinitely better than the first game. A helmet toggle on the DLC armors would've been nice, but it's lack isn't a huge miss. NPCs should definitely have realistic suits for hostile environments in the next installment. Walking through chlorine-fog is hazardous to unprotected human eyes (as is vacuum, near vacuum, etc...)

As much as I liked the new equipment system, I really don't like the resources system. I can scan planets pretty quickly, and still don't like it. It's the sole feature of the game that pulls my completely out of the action. It's busy work the prevents me from moving from one story segment to the next. Please, eliminate and/or scale back the resource acquisition part of the game. I don't want to mine minerals, I want to save the galaxy.

I don't miss the Mako in the least, nor do I miss driving around for hours on barren worlds. Keep the Mako exactly where it is. I know where to find it if I want to pay it a visit.

Those are few things that jump to mind. There were others, of course, but none of them keep this from being an amazing game. Mass Effect is definitely right at the top of my list of all time favorite games/series.

The ability to reveal the Collectors and Reapers to the whole universe. (you don't really think the Collectors have only one base?)

This is supposed to be the future - you've got high tech armor, AI's, omni-tools, the ship - don't tell me you don't have audio, video and sensor recordings of everything you saw/heard!

Frankly, that is IMHO the weakest part of the story - well, that and the whole human reaper thingy.

Also, give Normandy some logical amount of firepower.I mean WTF?? Those new guns butchered that 2km long Collector ship!!!

This thread is utterly massive, so I apologize in advance if this was said before:

If we saved the Collector base in ME2, in ME2 we better have it as a galactic map point (just like the Citadel, Illium, Tuchanka, etc) to go to mostly whenever we want.

ME is a great, awesome series, and for ME3, it truly must be a massive finish---and to do this, you may need heavily divergent story lines. Not as in, "heres a story divided into X number of chunks, each chunk is differently written based on a decision made, but they all lead to the same place" but instead, "heres a story that forks with each decision made, and lead to different places."

I doubt the Illusive Man would allow you to see what he's planning.  On a more suggestive note, better romance dialogue is a must.

ME1 and 2 both had strong points-ME1 had more items and a stronger plot-ME2 had (generally) better gameplay, more streamlined conversation, more squadmates who are also more detailed, and it delved deeper into the universe.
-I say keep the customizable N7 armor, but add more armor suits, but make them look like the DLC ones, opposed to just different coloured armor minus red N7 stripe as in ME1.
-MOAR WEAPONS. It's good the assault rifles in ME2 have different fire rates, instead of just firing the same, and you have longer range shotguns, different fire snipers, and several heavy weapons, but there is just not enough weapons.
-Bring back surviving squadmates from ME2 (except maybe Thane, the disease may have caught up with him, and age may have caught up with Mordin-he is 10years over the average Salarian life expectancy. Samara will also probably part ways to continue her Justicar quest). Garrus and Tali for sure, as they have been in ME1 and ME2, and are huge fan favourites-leaving them out would be a poor move. If Legion survives, keep them telling us more about Reapers and Geth.
-PLEASE make decisions such as whether to keep krogan research, reporgram Geth etc. affect the outcome of ME3.
-Don't bring back inventory system, still choose armor/weapons on Normandy, weapon lockers and the such.

ya im seeing that now, for some reason my first citadel fish
disappeared after i bought the one from illium so thought it was so.

i was thinking of something like dragon age's party icons, the little ones at the bottem of a screen are just to hard to see when they are getting shot and such, the power bar stands out more then them. i just might be bad at seeing them but when worrying about own health (especially on the harder play throughs) its hard to tell whats up with them.

i also agree with your post about the mako. i hated driving around in that thing, im liking the little side quest areas more, sorta like the KoTOR side areas.

Hey bioware! I would just like to congratulate you on 2 fantastic
games so far!  I have not yet completed me2, but its awesome so far. This
topic is a question/suggestion. I’m sorry if this isn't the right forum for
this, but it was the most relevant one I could find. The tri squad dynamic is
amazing, and works really well, and I like the fact that it’s a little harder to
'recruit' squad members. But what I was wondering, is if your not currently
using them for combat or you exclude small snippets of conversation they make
no difference. I understand they are a few times that they come in handy but
that’s on certain (predetermined) occasions. Im not asking you to change
anything, I think adding more people to the combat squad is stupid, because it
works  amazing the way it is, but I think that they should at least help
with the combat outcome, depending on how many squad members you have ect and
conversation outcomes, like fight for(or against you) depending on your loyalty. It would even be interesting to see them interrupt your conversation positively or negatively. Also in me2 you seem to have scrapped all the different skill upgrades excluding a few. I dont have a huge problem with it, but I think it makes the user's character more unique and really gives me the feeling that iv'e customized him to his full extent
thanks so much for making an amazing series!

Personally I'd like them to bring back the mini map/compass from the first game. It told me where enemies were when fighting, how many were coming at me and so on and so forth. Get rid of the stupid thermal clips! Seriously, the first game had it right, we got upgrades for the guns that reduced over heating. Running out of clips just made the game annoying.

Bring back the lesbian and homosexual romance options! Hell it pissed me off that the 3 romance options for the lesbians really weren't romance options at all. Kelly Chambers was a cop out, she wasn't apart of the ground team, she didn't really affect the storyline at all. Samara it never went anywhere. Morinth, she just plain kills you if you try. Also the excuse that they didn't have time was a major cop out as well.

Bioware you really back tracked with ME2 for the lesbian and gay male gamers.

Font size needs to be one size larger.

I want scanning minerals gone.

I want colony/mining/shipment defense missions (to get my minerals)

At some point in each romance chain needs to be a 'friends' option. (Worst example of this was actually Alaistar in Dragon's Age...constant sexual harassment if I didn't want him to drop back to neutral)

I want a repeat of a reason to use each ally and power at some point in the game.

Fuel discouraged exploration. It needs to go.

When an ally has nothing to say to you it needs to be a response that doesn't sound like (GO AWAY!)

leveling: something between me1 and me2

skip and talk really really need to be separate commands

Whilst playing ME2 the other day I had a very simple Idea to slightly enhance the party member face icon/health bar system during combat that I had an urge to share...

What if color from the face icons of your party members drained in shades of color in real-time in proportion to the damage they take (red). I'd find this more helpful than simply just showing me when they're doing fine and when they're unconscious which is pretty obvious.

In addition the face icons could be tinted either blue or yellow for any additional shields or barriers they are carrying...the deeper the color the stronger the degree of protection - until drained (clear).

Edit: Plus please bring back crouch... I don't need two thumbsticks to bring up the map screen and blind fire is a must with this type of cover-system to speed things up a little.

*********** Give us closure with teammates and LI ***********

The ending for ME3 is going to be the conclusion of a 150+ hour story. It needs to be not just epic but sustaining. Give us closure. Tie up looses ends. And most important give us one on one time to say good bye to each teammate. (Both current and past) If Shepard vs. the Reapers drives the action of the game then the teammate interaction drives the soul of the game. To not gives some time to talk with teammates after the last battle to say our good byes would be just as bad as forgetting to put in a last boss fight.

ME2 is good game but there are few things that make me nervouse.

-first STATIC LIFE!!!: every model has his place and wont move away from it. on normandy there are 14 characters who should talk with others. Not importent talks but discusions about weather, to make this ship living. This same in cities. Let those peoples and aliens move pls.

-sec. MORE TALK -there should be larger number of conversations with npc and more talks between them (about 30-60 min. per Npc)

-third. more armour parts

-fourth. biotic suck little bit in ME2. I don't understand why powers don't affect on enemys with armour?

-make larger cities pls.

-Romance's between npc's

-More enemys there should be an extra option for the number of enemys

-Make  ME3 easier to die at the end. 50-70% chance that you will die and this same for npc's
because with that "suicide mission it was faill" 95% that you won't die...
