The Infiltrator needs stealth kills and some sort knife/energy blade since they have a invisibility cloak, biotics should be able to create barriers around squad members

ME2 was such a huge improvement. Having gone back and re-played ME1 after beating ME2, I can see why the changes were made. ME1 was just... tedious. A great game, yes, but in comparison to ME2, I can't say I share the OP's viewpoints about the changes he'd like to see in ME3.

The Mako slowed down the pace of the game, was hard to control, and reminded me a little too much of those boring Halo missions.

I love ME2's fast pace, new combat (with much better aiming, and biotics that feel powerful and precise), and open-endedness. Having huge levels with ltos of "empty space" to explore is not everyone's cup of tea. Some of us don't play a game because we want to "observe the wildlife". I, for one, want to enjoy a polished game with a great story, and ME2 delivers that experience better than its predecessor does, in my opinion. Someone mentioned that ME2 felt like an interactive movie, and that's exactly what I love about it.

My respect for Bioware has grown tremendously with the release of Mass Effect 2. Ever since Baldur's Gate, I've watched their games become more polished and refined, and ultimately more fun and immersive, without losing the charm or viability of choice that was always present in their games.

Whatever Mass Effect 3 brings, I know it's going to be a great experience that pushes the limits of quality once again.

Another thing that would be cool, when the story demands it, is having two different squads needed on a mission. For instance, there are two paths and you must cover both of them, so you choose a leader and two more companions for the other squad. Then, you must play the level using both squads, this way we can use other characters sometimes instead of Shepard, it give some more protagonism to them. It can be done, you've done it on all your games, but in Mass Effect it's nearly inexistent (and it would have made sense in more than one mission).

I would be impressed if the developers read this far... but here it goes...

1. Miranda and Ash as male shep love interests.  ME1 and 2 are setting up a love triangle for ME2... so do it!

2. Keep the simplified invintory (it is more realistic than carrying 150 different weapons).  However, for weapon upgrades, add something visually to the guns... kind of like in Bioshock.

3. ScanningLarger, faster moving scanner.  Also... when you scan a planet, let there be an overall scan that informs you of relative levels of each element... so if you are looking for something in particular, you can easily focus on planets with the element.

4. Squad MAtes: a combo of characters from both ME1 and ME2

5. Excellent armor customization options so far... love it... keep it.  I always preferred the N7 armor, so being able to use it without penalty is awesome.

6. Allow helmet removal for cutscenes

7. There is nothing wrong with the Mako missions, just streamline weapons controls and keep it more focused on battle scenarios.  I look forward to the hammerhead.

8. Keep Zaieed... I love his stories to death.

9. Bring back elevators: They were a clever way to hide load screens, and the dialogue was classic.  Bring them back, but just do what you can to keep them brief.  The only ones that really bothered me in ME1 was the ones in ship... as they were slow and had no banter.  Where elevators were not appropriate, use the animations like in ME2 (shuttel travel, etc).

About the squad members of the previous games, i dunno why but i get the feeling that they will make it as squad mates in ME3((except Zaieed prolly since hes a DLC)), specially the ones from ME2. I dont think that bioware would create a squad recruiting game (ME2) just to kill the members in the next game. I would expect em to make you "recruit" nations and face the reapers. And tbh, i would rly be disappointed to watch the squad i carefully built and preserved through the suicide mission get killed at the next game's opening, and i dont even think that it makes sense, since it would make the majority of ME2's content kinda useless. So far the games seem like they have a major part of the plot each, and that would be, ME1 introduction of reapers, ME2 build your squad. Would love to have ME3, unite the galaxy against the reapers, or even join the reapers((that would be awsome and prolly point ME3 as one of the most open ended games out there)kinda hard tho since the reaper's recruiting methods strip one's own will).

Despite being a hardcore RPG fan I liked most of the streamlining that happened for ME2, I would have liked to be able to change my squad's armour but I guess the individual costume design makes up for the lack of choice. A minor point but I thought the suit-less characters should get a better breather helmet, I took Jack to that planet with the chlorine atmosphere, poor girl would have been blinded!

I for one don't wish for the return of dependence on the mako, someone accurately described it as like driving a bouncy castle. But something to give you an impression of the scale of the world you're visiting would be good (a few small vehicle sections?), also I liked the part where you walked out of the airlock in the first one, seems to give you a sense of really arriving somewhere and it only takes a few seconds.

I like the new characters on ME2 but they don't seem to have the depth of the ME1 crew, I guess that is the price you have to pay for having so many to choose from. I did like the loyalty missions too. I hope to see at least some of the ME2 squad in ME3 but most of all I'm looking forward to the return of Kaidan so I can get on some serious squeeing!

Started actually reading this thread, but after a few pages realized that that's an exercise in futility. :/

Still, I saw a lot of ideas that are good and I can say that I mostly agree with the OP.

One thing which would have NO interest for me would be an MMO based on Mass Effect, but if Bioware decides to create one, more power to them. However, I would like to see an online multiplayer component of the game, a la MAG. If anyone has played that game you know some of the maps are awesome affairs, with like 256 players at a time. I can imagine some really cool maps, weapons and teams to choose from for a Mass Effect version of such an endeavor.

As has been mentioned many times, planet scanning boo!!! Implement a FUN method of resource acquisition, preferably one that involves combat(yay)!! :)

I had no problem with the Mako conceptually but it was implemented in a less than ideal fashion. Similarly, I liked inventory, but the ME1 implementation was flawed.

ME2 combat is a big improvement, but it still needs refining. My opponents aren't gods, they shouldn't be able to target me unless they have some REASON to know where I am. If I'm able to break line of sight and change positions, they should have a really good reason to start looking for me in a new location. Some stealth that actually works (the tactical cloak is ok when in operation, but as soon as it fades you're targeted again, line of sight be damned) and lets you be stealthy would be cool.

I know that the next installment is the last, so some of the suggestions in this thread might be more apropos for a completely new game. I'd encourage you to consider that, Bioware geniuses. Thank you.

In MS3, I think the little side quests should:

1. Have more progression (which happened to an extent in MS2, with that mission series that ended up with you choosing to blow up a town or a space port);

2. Add more to the main game. Not just in an informative sense ("Oh so that's why that happened..") but in a participatory sense as well. So for instance, let's say you've done a side quest on a random planet, and you uncover some information, you should be able to use that extra information as a new option in the dialogue which would come up flashing in a main story dialogue scenario (eg, let's say in the main game someone accuses you of something, and without the side quest completed you'd stand there looking like an idiot, but with the new info, you can argue back based on your side quest experience). Or, you may meet someone in a side quest who by aiding them, helps you later in the main game. Or, maybe you learn a special skill on a back story, that activates a quick-time event skill that you could use in the main game (eg you see Zaeed do a certain whistle to control varren which causes a distraction, and your sheppard character picks up on that, which they may try and replicate in the main game, via a quicktime event)..

3. Be points in order to understand the crew members better (so on a side quest with Tali, you may see a Quarian homeworld destroyed, which would make her upset, at which you could engage in meaningful dialogue about the event).

5. Be integrated with DLC - content should be integrated into MS3 (and MS2 while we're at it), that somehow adds to the depth and richness of the main story. The more the side quests feed into the main story, the better.

So in summary, MS3 should tend towards integrated, progressive and enlightning side quests rather than unintergrated, meaningless and unconnected side quests. :) Keep up good

Bring Wrex back!

Biotics should only not work on Barrier enemies. Enemies with armor should be able to be thrown, lifted etc. With barriers it should only just deal damage to the barrier, and if the damage is more than enough to destroy the barrier than the enemies should still be thrown, lifted etc. but with less force and power.

Mining/scanning should be removed entirely since the majority of people dont seem to like either systems and cant come up with anything good to replace it. Theres better way to waste hours in Mass Effect than looking for rocks.

Remake and redo the inventory system, less items, add unique items and boss items and other things of the sort. The only problem with the old system was the management and the sheer number of items you gained. Also the fact there were super items like spectre weapons and colossus armor that made all other gear void.

Bring back *ALL* ME1 characters as obtainable, especially Wrex. I hear this is going to happen and that makes me very happy.

Levels less linear, more exploration during side missions and on hub planets.

Bring back the citadel as the largest place to explore, or at least have one planet/ship/station that is massive and has a lot to it.

I hear a few people asking for earth, I dont want earth in ME3. I dont want it ever to be a part of the ME universe, I live here thats why I play sci-fi space games. To go somewhere else.

Bring Wrex back!

More levels and more abilities.

De-suckify the vanguard please. He raped in ME1 and now he sucks in ME2. Example, close combat on insanity for the vanguard gets him killed over and over even with fortification/barrier/shield boost. He doesnt do as much weapon damage as he ought to, and his biotics have little to no crowd control.

Kudos on the improved combat aspect, but there are still many problems that need to be improved for ME3. Namely the cover system and its problems recognizing when to take cover and when not to. Players should only be knocked back when hit with large solid objects like missiles or biotics, bullets and flames shouldnt knock people backwards.

Speaking of flames, take out the flamethrowing enemies entirely. All they did was hide behind corners till you got close then jumped out and killed you quickly, or stupidly walk out in big open fields and get killed. Insanity was the worst for this.

Bring Wrex back!

Scions ranged attack's aoe is too great and really hard to avoid, especially when there are two of them. I cant count the number of times I died on insanity missions because I simply didnt know where I could move to avoid taking damage.

Choices made in ME1 made minimal differences to ME2. All I noticed that was different was a couple extra people to have a conversation with, thats all. And thats pathetic. *SPOLIER* Also, saving Wrex seemed to have no impact on what Tuchunka was like, it panned out exactly the same either way you sliced it. If you didnt save Wrex then his brother who almost identical takes his place and conducts things the same way. So I ask what the point of saving Wrex was when he makes no difference in ME2? *END SPOILER*

Less pre-order content, I hate not becing able to get everything simply because of the country I live in or because I dont feel like buying 3 copies of ME.

DLC COMES AFTER THE GAMES RELEASE DATE NOT BEFORE! With all that DLC at the start it was obvious that you just cut things from the main game and turned them into DLC. The point of DLC is that you are working on the game after it is already released to add more to it. Not just slicing things from the product and releasing them at later dates to those who will pay extra.

A better collectors addition. I felt ripped off.

Oh and Bring Wrex back!

More past time activities, on Normandy and on citadel and other cities. Like actually doing things with sqaud mates/LI. Similar to GTA4 in that respect.

maybe have it so that Shepard can have different accents (Russian, British, German, etc...) I do realize that it would be a strain on Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale, but it would be so awesome.

1. Keep the planet scanning. Introduce an imaging system upgrade that allows you to see resource "hotspots" on the planet surface. For example: while scanning for for platinum you see concentrations of it on the surface, move your crosshairs over the area and launch probe. Same for the other minerals. This would make the whole process faster and more enjoyable.

2. Keep the thermal clips but bring back weapon mods.If people want to use things like frictionless materials and bullet spam fine, but at the cost of reduced damage. Make ammo powers available for everyone where logical. For example: Garrus isn't biotic so he can't therefore generate warp ammo. Shredder, incendiary, armour piercing, and disruptor are for everyone. Also keep ammo choices in the power wheel.

3. Can we sell some stuff please? Increased shop inventories would also be super. WTF happened to all the other manufacturers in galaxy? I'd like to see items that are only available in the Terminus Systems and vice versa in Council Space.

4. Squad needs armour. I'll buy it, raid merc shipments for it or better yet, give some of those resources I've been mining to Mordin and he can make us some. And don't forget to helmet toggle!

5. Keep the load out screen. It's awesome and it make sense. I'm not carrying the huge ass inventory around with me like I did in ME1, thank god. Create an additional interface for squad armour selection in the armoury. Get 'em geared up appropriately before a mission and away we go.

6. Party banter during missions. See DA:O for details.

7. The ability to "romance" our LI's in varying locations, multiple times throughout the game. Sheps got a shower and he/she can't wash those hard to reach places alone.

8. Don't change the combat. It rocks. Christina Norman, please have my children.

9. No space combat or multiplayer.

10. Make it HUGE. Like12 disks. I'll settle for 3-5 though.

11. Aria. Just a one nighter or friends with benefits. Especially for renegade inclined Sheps.

12. Some sort of freaky, alien death critter for the aquarium.

13. Surfable extranet.

14. If the Normandy needs fuel then we must also have to discharge the drive core. On the planets that are suitable for discharge, make missions or random battles at some of the planets that have travel advisories. Preying Mouth, etc.

15. Bring back the ability to board the Normandy without having to leave orbit everytime. If I want to leave, I'll hit up the galaxy map.

16. Hire me. I'm very charming.

Whew...77 pages...I have read page 1, but I think what I mention here was mentioned in previous posts partially.

My wishlist so far:

1.:As OP said: More costumisation. Armor-Parts are a great thing but it really is terrible if a certain class will always have the same armor for multiple players, except the color.
More armor-parts with more costumization would be great.
Also each armor-part should have a number of slots for different sub-systems affecting the bonus of the armor-part or even add a new bonus to it.
Great would be, if some of these upgrades would be visible, if it's reasonable(armor-plates, shield-emitters, etc.).
The boni given by the Armors should also be higher, so you have the feeling of having a powerfull equipment.
Same thing for weapons of course.

2.: If weapons are now more substantial in the whole game, give each class a skill to bind the weapon on them more deeply by filling weaknesses the class has or improve it's strength in it's known specialisations.
Example:
-Sentinel: Amplifying-Ammuniton: This ammunition not only generates a biotic field arround the target which amplifies biotic skills. Also it contains different liquids which amplify the effect of tech-skills(conducting liquids for overload, etc). Other than that, the ammunition has no own damage-bonus.

3.:Make the powers more powerfull the higher their level is.
It's ridiculous now...I'm a powerfull biotic who levels his skill to have 200Newton more force. 200Newton is arround 45lbs standing on someone. That's the weight of a medium-sized dog.

4.: MOST IMPORTANT: Get rid of that global cooldown.
Another system like a power-overheat-bar would be awesome.
I don't want a system that enables me to spam skills like in ME1, but one up to three skills like throw in a row would be nice, before I have to wait for a cooldown.

5.: Adapt the game-cinematics to the class we play. If I play a class without an Assault-Rifle, I don't want to see my Shepard run arround and shoot with an Assault-Rifle he/she shouldn't have. Instead Shepard could use throw/warp or make a show like Samara does.
For example an engineer could hack a random shuttle to crash into an YMIR-Mech in a cutscene, instead of using an AR to shoot a hover-crane to fall onto it.
A biotic could smash a crate against the YMIR to crash it.
I know it's more work for you, but it would be worth it to complete an awesome trilogy.

6.: Keep the scanning-system for upgrades, so we don't miss something because we don't have room in an inventory.
Rather make it possible to scan upgrades. With the scanned data we can build them on the Normandy with resources we have to mine.
But with an inventory other players would like to see, we could take the upgrades with us and don't have to use resources for them or just for more copies.

7.: Add more upgrades for the normandy...that was an awesome idea.
Also add some upgrades for the hammerhead/vehicle.

And finally, very important
: ME1 and ME2 both have superb animated faces...but if we want to take a real helmet and not some kind of visor, we miss the mimics of Shepards face during conversations.
PLEASE, BioWare, you got that thrilling, folding weapon-systems, make some helmets that can open the face-part in the same way.
It would have been so great on Haestrom: Shepard going in cover, next to Kal'Reegar, the front of his/her helmet glides apart, revealing Shepards face for the conversation.
As the conversation ends, Shepard closes it with "I need you here to cover us if they order reinforcements" and the helmet closes again.

I saw this posted over at rpg.net and just want to throw it out here for comment. Since ME2 offered us the chance to change class at the start, no doubt ME3 should offer the same chance, but how to do it? Here is a suggestion.
Not long after the end of ME2, The Normandy is surrounded by Alliance ships and boarded by marines who arrest everyone. Shepard especially since he was working with a known terrorist orginization.(Cerebus) and has several known criminals on board in his employ(Thane, Jack, Miranda, Jacob.) Shepard gets convicted and his implants removed before being thrown into jail.
Sometime later, a Reaper attack wipes out a colony and even the Council has to admit that they exist. Whoops.
So, Shepard is released and begged to stop the Reapers, of course we say yes, with perhaps some air-quoting thrown in. Shepard gets new implants and an accelerated training program that lets him take a new class if wanted. Shepard then gets a brand new Normandy and the old crew signs up.
