- combat experience (ammo, difficulty settings, tactics and abilities regarding each and every class)
- Paragon and Renegade points
- dialogue interrupt system
- armor customization (while it wasn't exactly what I expected after playing ME1, it was nice to add different features to the N7, as well as personalizing the color).
These are some of the things that I believe that should not be changed. The gameplay itself is vastly different from ME1, and while I am not a fan of shooters, the combination of story, different classes and the overall gameplay style of ME2 really delivered something enjoyable.
As for things that should be improved and/or added, this is my perspective:
- missions and sidequests should be slighty longer or more in amount
- dialogues with squad mates, while incredibly emotional/funny/interesting, were also quite few and short
- it is normal for BioWare to make such interesting characters, resulting in people getting really attached to them; therefore I truly hope that the surviving squad mates will able to remain in your team during ME3

Also, just as a side note, this thread is getting pretty huge. Any thoughts on breaking it up into categories (like HUD, weapons, customization, etc.)? I'm tempted to do it myself, but I'm not sure if once I do I'll be greeted by a giant uprising of forum trolls screaming at me because my actions have unhinged the balance of the time-space-continuum.
If you have the cahones, the free time, and the will, please go ahead.

Hi all. Just looking to add my wish list to this thread. Hopefully some of these ideas sound interesting to you.
Looking at ME1&2, it's clear that ME3 will be a showdown between the Reapers (led by Harbinger) and the Organics (Alliance, Cerebus and various alien races) led by Shepard. I am sure everyone feels that the
in-game decisions from ME1&2 should be carried over. Obviously, if this implemented via cinematics (and voice overs), it may be prohibitively expensive.
Bioware overcame this in ME2 via the use of e-mails, replacing character models and announcements. This was
ok for the minor quests but appears frustrating for major plots such as Liara (if she was your love interest) and Kaiden/Ashley and Wrex's reactions. Whatever you did, their reactions are still the same and your choices were rendered inconsequential.
Assuming ME3's plot is as speculated above, my hope is that ingame decisions in ME1&2 be reflected in 2 ways:
1. Defence of Homeworld planets
Assuming the Reapers invade, obviously their main targets would be the Citadel and various homeworlds of the Council Races, Earth etc. Shepard would obviously be tied up with his main quest [whatever that is]. However,
if Shepard is co-ordinating the defense, he may have the deciding vote on which of these planets would have top priority to defend. This would be similar to the pivotal decision regarding the Council in ME1.
How ME1&2 might affect the gameplay is as follows:
(a) Recruit all possible allies in ME1 & 2 AND new allied races in ME3 AND new QUESTS
There are sufficient fleets to adequately defend the Mass Effect drive chokepoints and stall the reapers until Shepard finds a way to permanently end the Reaper threat. Minimal civilian casualties.
(
The new allied races and new [weaponry, etc] are insufficient to stop the Reaper threat at all points. This means Shepard will have to sacrifice certain homeworlds. Obviously, this is less than satisfactory but if you are playing a
Renegade bad-ass... that won't matter so long as Earth isn't the one sacrificed isn't it?
© Failure to do all of the above
Shepard might stop the Reapers in the end but all that’s left is a pile of rubble as the homeworlds of all the advance races are destroyed. Perhaps that’s the ultimate plan since Renegade Shepard is now in charge of the remnants of the most advanced fleet in the Milky Way and on-his way to becoming the Emperor...../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png
This could be implemented via voice-overs by EDI with some cut-scenes whilst Shepard is out doing his main mission thing.
2. Former NPC leading Mission Squads
Shepard will most likely be required to lead a series of dangerous missions to stop the Reaper threat. A good game mechanic to reflect whether certain NPCs lived or died would be to have some of them drop in to assist Shepard at various points of his missions, which should be relevant to the mission at hand.
Eg.1 Save Tuchanka
A critical mission on Tuchanka to stop the Reapers from destroying the Krogan home planet within say, 15 minutes. If you had certain characters from ME1 & 2 that have an interest in that planet [hint!], you would have more time instead to perform the mission. Say if both characters are alive [but not part of Team Shepard in ME3], the time would be extended to 30 minutes and they would help you take out 2 of the 5 mission bosses. If you were a bad-ass, then it’s 15 minutes with your measly 3 person squad. There could be some minimal dialog and battle chatter like in Virmire in ME1 and final battle in ME2 to improve immersion.
For these missions, there could be three varying outcomes. For instance if you had these two characters - you could have a 100% success mission - meaning Tuchanka is saved. Without any of these two characters, even with an uber-squad, maybe you could only have a 50% success mission - Tuchanka is partially destroyed with casualties mounting in the millions. If your skills are sucky or you have a bad build, it's MISSION FAILURE. No problems... just that the Krogans are now extinct and any Krogan NPC you meet from now on will spit on you.
Oh... and on the Galactic News..."Epic Failure! Shepard fails in defence of Tuchanka. Who put this Guy in charge?"
Eg. 2 Green Companion Dies in Mission
Imagine a certain green guy taking a bullet for you if you saved him in ME2.... If you didn't, you would be critically wounded during the said scripted event in a specific mission. Sure, you would still survive but you would need to go for cover and use up maybe 2 unity to recover. It would make the mission much harder since you have limited med-packs and just used up two of them.
The other major qualm I have with the ME2 missions is how you MUST succeed or its' game over. Why can't you
have differing degrees of success or even EPIC FAIL for some Critical missions. For instance, maybe you could fail a mission and retreat for the *twin* quest for one of ME2 companions. Of course, that particular companion now *hates* you and might even turn on you at the critical moment in the ending, if you went against your ME2 Boss. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png
All of your success or failures in the various missions should have a major impact on the ME Galaxy and epilogue. Failure to save Tuchanka might result in the extinction of the Krogans. Going full Renegade might set back Galactic Civilization for decades and resulting in a warring Milky Way with Shepard's pirate faction having the upper hand.
3. That Final Decision in ME2
Just a residual thought… I think if a Paragon choice was made, this should be reflected in-game by not allowing access to high-tech Collector weaponry. Instead, it would allow a higher resistance to Indoctrination. How would resistance to Indoctrination affect gameplay? Well I foresee a few missions on board Reapers or bases. Well, take too long to finish a mission and some of your squad members might be temporarily Indoctrinated and be required to retreat for the rest of the mission. This might be due to excessive usage of Reaper Tech.
Conversely, a Renegade choice would allow access to better Collector weaponry at the expense of lower resistance to Indoctrination. So a Renegade Character would have bad-ass weaponry to steamroll over his opponents with the risk of needing to solo halfway through the mission with the timer ticking away... since his team mates must retreat due to the risk of *forced* indoctrination.
Conclusion:
It would be great if choices made in ME1&2 really matter and affectgameplay in some manner. Right now, choices in ME1 don’t really make the missions easier or harder. If earlier decisions were to impact gameplay, i it make you want to replay ME1 &2 all over again to ensure you get the most PERFECT EPIC PARAGON ending.
Now, that’s karma! Hope my 2 cents make sense. And it would be cheaper to handle this through gameplay mechanics than via cinematics. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png

But I agree with you about not really noticing the power of levels enough. I feel this mostly stems from the fact that you max out your important abilities first, and after a while additional levels are just filler abilities to round out the character. Really needs to have abilties higher power levels unlock over time
2. OMG please do not bring back inventory. When it comes to weapons there needs a lot more options to suit play styles (i.e. trade offs between accuracy, rate of fire, damage, reload times), and with armor a lot more options to customize looks. But I don't need a gazzilions bits of junk to vendor.
I'd like new weapons/armor/upgrades to come as rewards from side missions. Like unlocking the manufacturer licenses in ME1. Even paragon\\renegade choices could unlock the same upgrade, but one might be a contact at c-sec while the other is a contact at the black market
3. Vehicles need to be done well...which unfortunately the Mako wasn't. Driving around empty barrens isn't exciting, and combat with the Mako wasn't in any way difficult. The idea is there, and there could be some really intense levels centred around vehicles.
4. Bigger is better if it isn't just for the sake of it. No elevator rides or long runs to get to A to B. But if they can have enough content in to have massive cities that would be awesome.
5. Mission design was well done in ME2 imo and I hope its very similar in ME3.
6. When it comes to exploring, its great when by going a little out of your way you discover something interesting. Its not fun when searching for long periods you find something you don't really care about.
When it comes to ship combat, that would be awesome...but its not something you just tack on at the end. It would likely have to be a major component of the game so something I see unlikely from happening.

"Joker in Action"-Mission (to avoid any spoiler; anyone who completed ME2 knows what I mean).
For example: Controlling Thane in some Sneak/Stealth/Action -Mission -or-
Playing Garrus-Flashback...controlling him and commanding his former squad (so the player knows more about what happend there on Omega).
Edited: And a SDK would be nice, I like Mods for the game.
DragonAge has a SDK, Mass Effect 1/2/3 should have, too.

Another thing is the classs we pick (soldier, vanguard, etc)no matter what we are the conversations don't change at all(with the exception with kaidan in ME1 where if you are a biotic he will say that you have more power than he does). It would of been pretty cool if as your Vangaurd or adept you could have the chance to cast the biotic shield during a certain scene to protect someone from an attack. In ME1 and 2 It feels like even though you picked a biotic class, sometimes in certain conversations it feeld like you are only a biotic during the combat scenario's but not one during the story. Or if you are a soldier and have that cybernetic implant(those who played ME2 will know what I am talking about)no one ever says anything about it (not even miranda) it even sounds like it was never
added at times.
Dragon Age origins had this. It went more in depth of your character to what class they are to where they were born.If you add this in ME3 it will allow us to have a better feel on our characters depending on what class they are and what backrounds they are. I would make them more uniqe to everyone else and would change everyones in game experience for the better in my opinion.

First, I want more weapons. NOT WEAPON TYPES. I want different variations of the same gun. In ME2 most of the guns have 2-3 different versions. In ME1 there was probably 50 for each.
Second, I want the same thing as above but with armour (yes that's how I spell it don't complain, i also spell colour).
Third, MORE SIDEQUESTS. I know it sounds ridiclous, but i felt as if I had to wait like 2 main missions to get only 5 new sidequests. MORE, MORE, MORE!!!!!!!!
Fourth, VEHICLES, VEHICLES, VEHICLES, VEHICLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! period.
Fifth, more explorable planets, I want to land on most of the planets that have colonies, instead of reading about them in some stupid planet info. Also I want to revist every Major plent colony that I've seen so far. READ; Noveria, Tuchanka, every major clony form ME1 and 2 that includes an EXPLORABLE MIGRANT FLEET.
Sixth, Make sure Grunt, Legion and Garrus return, AS LONG as those 3 come back, idc about the rest.
Seventh and last, BIGGER CITADEL, READ; ME1 CITADEL!

And yes while I was able to create a decent looking chick (Who looks alot like Anna from "V") i would really like more choices, Like in Dragon age. And also like in Dragon Age I would love it if we didn't have to wait till practically the end of the game to have our romance scenes. i love dragon age for the ability to get it on throughout the game.
That is pretty much all i want aside from the upgrades section in the equipment screen.

1) Make EDI a squadmate. I would love to go on missions with Legion and EDI. Make her a bad-ass looking holo or mech or android with Trish H's voice over. Though I'd prefer her as a holo verses a mech or android because it would be something new (the android being the least favorite option). The possibitlies with her as a squadmate are endless! A female virtual squadmate voiced by Trish would be badass.
2) I play on 360 so... Improve the controller key mappings, because currently they are horrible. Ideas for this would require a separate thread.

Since I'm back here on page 1000 or so, I don't expect this to be read. I also did not read every page before posting here. That's a lot of reading.
Anyway, here's my suggestions:
1) Shuttle and scanning vs Mako ground exploration from ME1:
I know the shuttle was not used for exploration like the Mako in ME1, but it's the replacement. I'm sorry, but it's ugly and awkward looking. And scanning became tedious. It's not even an interesting mini-game. I suggest that the Mako come back in some form in ME3. Terrain and slightly odd controls made the Mako frustrating in ME1, but Bioware did a great job creating these worlds. Each felt unique -- the terrain, atmosphere, and sky all made you feel like each world was a new experience. Scanning worlds that seem similar took much of that fun away in ME2. I understand that creating worlds for ground exploration can take time, but scanning seemed to rip a large chunk of the game away, leaving us with a shallow, unimaginative shell of a mini-game.
2) Armor:
I don't mind that I couldn't find 20 different armors and change them for each of my teammates. Heck, each teammate had a unique "costume" that I don't mind keeping. It would be nice to have more than two versions of that costume, perhaps adding a few mods to them.
--NOTE: I also want to choose to have my helmet removed during conversations where the environment allows, like in ME1. Having a helmet on takes away from the conversation. Make this a toggle so we can choose if our helmets come off or stay on.
3) Inventory
Some people want the inventory back from ME1. I say no! There were way too many drops and it was annoying to manage it. If the inventory does come back, make drops much more infrequent than ME1. I'd prefer to have more mods to my existing armor and weapons, but not like ME1 where there were ten different levels of the same piece of equipment or mod. It was annoying to manage an inventory in ME1 where the inventory would fill quickly and I had to spend time selling or reducing to omni-gel.
4) Combat
Combat was greatly improved in ME2 and I really enjoyed this. Definitely the best improvement from ME1. I don't have many suggestions for improvement other than the melee being a bit iffy in terms of positioning. I'd also like more chatter from teammates.
5) Team interaction
I thought that team interaction was going to be increased from ME1 but it really didn't seem like teammates had much to say outside of the ship. While on the ship, the team had interesting things to say, but it was only to you. The interactions don't have to be meaningful or affect the story line -- more like color commentary. Make your teammates seem more important to the mission, even if that means you have to reduce the number of available teammates for ME3.
EDIT: I also forgot -- how about some acknowledgement from your "favorite" teammates -- meaning those you chose most often to go on missions with. I know that many of us choose our favorites or those that fit best with our character. It would be nice to have that acknowledged, even if its only one or two lines of dialog.
6) Skills/powers
I liked the reduced skills list and upgrading of skills. Normally, I'd like a large list of skills/powers to choose from from an RPG standpoint, but in ME2 it was nice to feel like I was more focused on being a specialist. I don't want to choose from 20 different skills when I'm in a firefight.
One suggestion would be to change visual appearances as skills are improved. If this did happen, I really didn't notice. For example, a biotic power with a larger flash or bloom at higher levels. Its a way to make the game a more unique experience without affecting the storyline or gameplay.
7) Ending
I need to be vague here, I know - no spoilers. The final mission was great -- you feel like you are commanding a squad more than in ME1. But I would have liked more interaction with the team, especially at the ending cinematic. It also felt less dramatic and more ambiguous as to what just happened (maybe that's what you were looking for so that ME3 opens dramatically?). I guess that's how the middle story in many trilogies feels, so maybe that feeling can't be avoided.
Whenever fans make a list like this, it looks like a lot of picky complaints. But that's only because I love this game and can't wait to see what's in store in ME3. Thanks again for a great game! Now I need to get back to playing through ME2 a few more times.

Undoubtedly one of the most beloved aspects of Mass Effect is the writing. Not the plot, exactly, but the dialogue. You get to know the people around you, and the best part is - they feel like real people! With feelings, and motivations and everything. My only problem with this is the whole "getting to know your crew" gets a little formulaic. You complete a mission, then make your rounds to see what conversation options just got unlocked.
One of my favorite parts of all of Mass Effect 2 was getting drunk with Dr. Chakwas. I'm not saying she's a superior character or anything, but the style of the scene really changed the business of talking to the cast around you. I'd like to see more things like this - maybe a scene at some point eating breakfast with all your team mates, or playing a sport, or just relaxing in some lounge after the tension of the mission is past. I'd love some of this - these moments are what bring life to the characters. Sure they could just tell you about their lives, or it could be in passing during something innocuous. I would never suggest toning down the violence, or making the game all about relationships and feelings and crap, but the little scene with Dr. Chakwas gave me more connection to this game than all the "anomaly" side-missions combined.
From the replies I've gotten, most people seem to agree that it's little things like this that help character development. The loyalty missions definitely helped to define the characters of your squad, but it would be nice to have a little more social interaction and a little less: (In the immortal words of Jack_Shandy)
Player: So what's your deal?
Bounty hunter: I'M A VICIOUS TAKE-NO-PRISIONERS BOUNTY HUNTER WITH A SECRET HEART OF GOLD.
Player: *Chooses good dialogue option*
Bounty Hunter: LET US SEX.
It would be terrific to see the people on your ship interact with each other, or just walk around. One of the ideas posited was a lounge, where characters would go if they had something to say. No one likes having to "make the rounds" after each mission to see what conversation options they've unlocked. If the characters were a little less chained to their location, that would be a great stride towards what I'm asking. Seeing other characters interact would be really immersive too. (Naughty Bear suggested things like, after a few conversations have Garrus and Thane playing cards to see how they'd respond to each other) This gives us some of that interaction from the elevator rides, WITHOUT the elevators.
In summary, we'd like more social interaction in a little less formulaic way.

My absolute #1: Make it worth my while to have stayed faithful to my ME1 LI. Epic romance culmination.
Now that you've spent ME2 refining the shooter aspects of the game--which are great--bring back some of the RPG elements you dumbed down or took out. By this, I mean the inventory, for one. Upgrades felt cheap--I didn't even care about what the upgrade was or what it did, just that I had the resources or money to get it. We don't really even get to see how our upgrades really affect gameplay, honestly.
Also--I don't know if Bioware really thought about this, but did anyone use the armor besides the N7 armor? Because I got awesome Terminus armor and the Cerberus armor, but never used it because you couldn't take the helmet off. When I play, I want to be able to see my Shep's facial expressions during dialogue. Unless I'm on a hostile planet, the helmet should be off. Was this annoying for anyone else?
Also, glad they allowed us to customize our armor, but really, only having like three or four armor pieces to choose from kinda sucked. Same goes for weapons. Did I seriously go through the game only finding two MAYBE three of each kind of weapon, and fifty heavy weapons (I rarely used)? Bring the RPG elements back to the story, guys. I'd take the ME1 bogged down inventory over having, well....nothing. It's kinda disappointing.
I'm torn about the way character level ups are. I feel like the level system is efficient now, but at the same point in time, I don't feel like my characters have the opportunity to be as vast and diverse in that system as my ME1 characters were. I.E.--bring back more powers. Powers=good. Ammo is not a power. And all classes should be able to use all ammo. I don't know how you'd work that with the current ammo system (which I surprisingly didn't mind), but I just think that all classes should be able to use all ammo. Then again, that might overpower the characters. I dunno, just my opinion.
Also--where are the epic levels? Omega was cool, but not half as epic as the Citadel. I don't know if it's just that I liked the shiny, pure Citadel better, but walking around it was awesome. I don't care if you guys need to put ME2 on FOUR CDs. Keep the cool content IN! The Zakera ward felt cheap, and I was really disappointed when I went to visit Anderson/Udina that I couldn't go visit the Volus embassy next door for some snarky conversation. :*(
Anyways, yes, romance culmination with my Kaidan is still number one. I don't know how the story will end, but I hope it ends with the two of them growing old together.
That's all I can think of, for now. Hope this helps!

I don't know why this happened, but the story in ME2 did not seem as layered, deep and full of intrigue as the first. It was good, but it was not a woven UNIVERSE like the first. ME2 was a good story, that I felt at times was hokey because of the way it came across. No more giant ***(edited out, forgot this was a no-spoilers board, sorry!)***end bosses, please--good concept, yes, just done terribly and came across as horribly hokey. Something I'd expect to see in a JRPG or something, honestly. From what I've heard around the boards, while ME2 was a fantastic game, the ending was just not half as epic as the first. Personally, I'd just like to see more missions related to the actual storyline, instead of spending over half the game doing loyalty missions. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, it's not my intention, and I realize that Bioware is one of the few great gaming companies out there. I just don't want to see the integrity fall any. Story IS important.
....Please bring back Drew to work intimately on ME3 with you guys. He makes a difference.

- More vehicles for different landscapes (I wouldn't want to see vehicles released again by DLC's.)
- Way more weapon/armor types (Like in ME1, but better if possible)
- New, better inventory system
- More side quests and explorable worlds
- Harder and bigger missions. The missions i played on ME2 didn't take much time (Even the large ones) and they weren't too hard either (Even on Insanity). I would also like to see more ''Defend this position'' missions or part of the missions.
- I wouldn't like to see ME3 as the end of the trilogy.
- I would like to see your old teammates return (Not all, i would understand when for example Wrex wouldn't return because he needs to lead the Krogan clans) and some that will leave (Hired ones like Zaeed or Samara because of her code). Your love interest MUST return to your squad in ME3 imo. It would be very disappointing not to see your love interest back in your squad. I hope Bioware has thought about this.
- Like much people already suggested; Bigger Citadel... maybe even much bigger. I would like to see awesome gang/mercenary side quests and shootouts in the small streets of the Citadel, smuggling quests etc. I simply would want to explore the Citadel much more since its VERY big.
- Earth! I would want to see how Earth looks like in 2185 or later (Depends when ME3 will take place). And involve some side quests there (Maybe even a part of the main storyline... who knows.)
- The Illusive Man will definately want to get rid of you after you have destroyed the Collector base. Or after you have kept the base, he would want to get rid of you because your no use to him anymore? They should be involved in the main storyline/or a whole side storyline about destroying Cerberus and The Illusive Man. (Depends of course if you have chosen to keep or destroy the base) Maybe a DLC about Cerberus?
- REVEAL TALI'S FACE!
- Make the romance parts maybe a bit more... interesting lol
Thats it for now i guess. I will try and come up with more ideas later.
