Apologies if any the following have already been suggested, I don't have the time nor the patience to read through 80+ pages. At least repeats may mean they have a good chance of getting in? lol

In no particular order;
1) 50/50 split between ME1 (mako) planet explorations and ME2's confined yet more detailed planets and missions.
2) More armour and casual clothing options, maybe dedicated in game stores for both?
3) More weapon choices and different appearances if possible
4) New colour scheme to keep it fresh and new
5) More of the atmospheric electronic/synth music (pretty much a given though I think)
6) Either more choice of powers (similar to ME1 with 6 or 7 per character/class) or new powers
7) Better leveling up (more points and choices etc) and a less intrusive mission complete screen. I liked the idea but would have preferred and in-game one, maybe popping up on omni-tool display or back on the Normandy's (or w/e ship's) briefing/comm room screen.
8) something different to mineral scanning, I liked the idea of more interaction with the planets but after you have about 300k and 70k of eezo its kinda pointless and then turns into ME1 again. Maybe some sort of system trading or using them for parts of quests etc.

I could go on and on but I will spare anyone bothered to read this, safe to say ME1 and 2 have been AWESOME and I expect ME3 to be a BIG leap forward in terms of story, gameplay and features to make it an awesome send-off for Shepard. Although I hope ME universe will continue, and NOT as an MMO. Yes I am looking at you Bioware w/ KOTOR lol.

Please do NOT bring back an inventory!

I just started playing Mass Effect 1 for the first time and I hate having to figure out what equipment and upgrades to use.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about in 2.

Well it just needs an organised and coherent system instead of a massive unmanageable list.

Thats actually a point I forgot, I DO WANT and inventory just one that works.

I'm on the side of keeping the MAKO gone. At best it was a fun, if momentary, diversion from the main game and at worse it was borderline broken and really intrusively disrupting the pace (the damn thing's shields took FOREVER to regenerate). I like the mining, I think it strikes the right balance between just clicking on a planet to harvest its resources and going down on it.
I like the more bite-sized mission structure as well, but I could definitely go for different ways to get through them, maybe even ways that play to different class' strengths (barge in through the front door for Soldiers or sneak around for Infiltrators, as a rough example).
The inventory being streamlined was something I hated for exactly 40 minutes. Then I realized I wasn't missing the old inventory at all. Likewise the skill tree. I never realized how redundant so much of that stuff was until I played ME2, so good going on that.
The only thing I'd really like to see changed is I'd love to have more banter (you guys really nailed this in Dragon Age) between the party members. It was always funny to me that the party would have unique conversations based on their personality types and even if someone was involved in a romance with the main character and I'd love to see someone prodding Jack for details on Shepard's love life.
My main point and biggest desire for ME3 though, would be keeping mostly the same roster. I'm glad they shook up ME2's roster cause...they basically got rid of the characters I felt were disposable (minus Wrex) and kept the two I actually wanted to see again. This time around was different, though, I actually really want to know more about almost everyone in this group. I assume there'll be some new characters, and that's all good, but I don't think another roster shake-up is necessary. It would also somewhat cheapen your group actually making it through a mission where all of them could have died if they all just go their separate ways anyway. Plus we only got the final party member for like two missions, I want to see more of what he can do! ;) It'd also be nice to see the romances develop into another game.

I second more hair choices. I wanted my avatar to have locs like me! :)

Also I was thinking... since ME is like an interactive movie, it would be cool to have an option where at the end you can view a two hour version of your game with all the major choices at the end seamlessly. That might be crazy and impractical though so maybe just an option of playing any of the conversations/animations you've already been through.Maybe being able to make a trailer would be cool then folks can share them over Live.

Edit:2/11/2010
I just wanted to say thanks! This topic has turned into a huge thread, and every one of you have some really good ideas for the third Mass Effect. I really hope that Bioware will take keen attention to this topic and really help make this game shine. Remember, this isn't about judging what other people want! It's just a wishlist!

Mass effect is hands down the very best game I've ever played. I enjoyed the trilogy so far and look forward to the next more than ever. I'm creating this topic as a goal for the community to reach out to Bioware to make mass effect 3 the very best it could ever be. ME2 Seemed to suffer a little bit in areas that ME1 thrived in. These are a few things that I personally would love to see in mass effect 3. Although I'm well aware we all would like different things, it'd be great to have a few things back from ME1. Things that really made it shine, and possibly some new elements in the mix as well. I feel as if ME2 has gone too far into the FPS-Action only, and will probably have hardly any RPG aspect in ME3. If we don't correct it soon, it'll be too late. With that said, here's some things that I would love to see in ME3 to really give us that RPG feel.

Give us levels that make us feel like we've accomplished something! (VERY IMPORTANT!)

What's the point in leveling up a character when you don't unlock
something for getting there, or have a harder time fighting something as
you level up. Let me give you an example. This game levels you up very
well but you have no challenges. Enemies seem to stay at an incredibly
balanced difficulty throughout the game. It'd be nice to have enemies
outside of your level that are too difficult to kill, or much harder.
Another thing would be level requirements for certain ship upgrades,
guns, ammo, armor, etc. Give us the illusion that the higher the level
we are, the stronger we are! IMHO there was no
sense of this in ME2, and half the upgrades we got we never noticed.

Bring back the Inventory (upgradeable sizing)

Theres always a good feeling knowing what's in your backpack. RPG gamers love looting! It's always exciting to pick up something that may, or may not be better than what you currently own. Another aspect of that great RPG feel could be to upgrade our bag size. Looting objects and selling them at different markets would be great. For instance selling something at OMEGA could be more valuable than at the Citadel.

Upgradeable weapons/armor (The NEW fasioned way)

I don't really like the new weapon upgrades as much as the first ME. I think that for ME3 something completely different would be great for everybody who enjoys this game. Give us content! Perhaps a new sniper rifle barrel, or a different scope/zoom distance. Magazine size/Ammo size. ETC. Something that really can make our weapons UNIQUE! Everyone can have the highest upgrade, but with this method of customization there's many more ways to enjoy killing the reapers!

Where did the vehicle go!? Please. . . Give it back!!

I loved the driving aspect of the game. It really gave you a sense of how large the game was. It mad me feel cramped having to walk around everywhere. I'm not exactly sure why, but for some reason whenever I got into the vehicle the game just felt that much bigger to me. I loved it. It may not have driven the best, but it sure was a great part to the game. I heard of talk about them creating a vehicle, but I've completed the game, and explored every planet with no success of driving one, nor did I see a place where one could be used.

Please, Make the citadel larger.

This one is crucial to me, but I'm not sure how this strikes other gamers. I really enjoyed the citadel in ME1, not soo much in ME2 though. It seemed a lot smaller and the fact that it was just a bunch of levels on top of each other wasn't much for me. I really enjoyed being in the Citadel in ME1 and loved to explore the life in it. The Citadel in ME2 seems lifeless, just a bunch of shops and levels. I guess it's hit or miss on this one with the community, but I though I'd point it out.

While doing missions, make them less linear.

Hard to get lost during a mission, it always felt like a hallway leading with doors to the objective. DON'T get me wrong, I don't feel as if the game is linear, but 80% of the mission are. There's usually only one way to go, one way to complete it, and one way in/out. Open it up! we want to explore!

Keep the Normandy just as exploreable/vehicle

Another big one for me. I think it'd be great to have the normandy land on a planet, walk down to the cargo hold, get into a vehicle, and drive it out onto the unexplored planet. Something tiny, but it's this attention to detail that really makes a game shine!

More Normandy fights!

In ME2 we don't really use the upgrades for anything at all. We spend thousands and thousands on mats upgrading our ship. . . and for what? A quick dodge at the end of the game? I wanted to really see how the upgrades worked, all I seen was it go through some debree. Some dogfighting would be great.

Give us Earth! If ME3 really is the end of the trilogy (better not be!) than at least let us explore our homeplanet. Have the reapers invade it or something. I duno, just bring earth into the picture. I want to see it in the future.

Keep this as the best game I've ever played, just put some more RPG elements into it!

I hope this can be stickied, and we can all come together as a community to make Mass Effect 3 the best game to ever be released. . . . Until ME4-100 of course. :)

the need to make an option at the begging of the game for both me2 style of play and me1 style of play to make every one happy.

a
few things you missed the sex scene needs to go back to me1 so ea shut
your pie hole no one likes you they like the franchise you buy.

the
side stories need to tie back into the main plot like they did in me1
to many off shoots that go no where in me2 and they need to change the
stories like me1 not just give you a different cinematic but have the
same
conclusion it docent feal like my choices make a difference.

need to not focus on the gathering of the crew next time its nice but thats not a game.

bring back my tearia that was my love interest in me1 and wanted to see how things played out.

there needs to be more game me2 felt short vary short. i beat it 3 times in 2 weeks and thats cause i had to work.

epic battles what happed i only felt one and that was the end of the game for crying out loud.

the story needs to grip me make me want to keep going to be riveting.

and for the love of god give me back the citadel that was lame that you cut it out.

I would like to see:
1) Liara brought back as both a LI and squad mate.

2) If you cheat on your LI from ME1 there should be serious HELL TO PAY, even if you a fling with Kelly or tried to romance Samara, Liara/Ash/Kaiden should be mad and this should affect the MAIN story.

3) All plots are resolved.

4) The return of Ash or Kaiden as a Spectre.

5) A plot that is different from DA:O I don't want to be running around the galaxy gathering allies to form a super army to fight the Reapers.

6) A better villain than Harbinger. He was a major let down.

7) A mix of scanning and Mako/Hammerhead explorations.

8) The ability to buy weapons not plans to make guns.

9) Stores that restock supplies other than fish and models.

10) Let the gamer decide whether to be a Spectre again or a Cerberus agent.

Planet Wishlist    Palavern, Thesia, Earth, Quarian Homeworld

Squadmate Wishlist  All Squadmates from ME1 and ME2 along with Kal Reegar and some new Batarian squadmate.  I would also love some alien crew on the Normandy.  I missed talking to hanar in this game.

More Indepth Romance  This is the last part to Commander Shepard's story.  Please have a bit more in there then talk, talk, flirt, flirt, intimate encounter hours before everyone might die.  It's Shepards last hurrah lets have him/her really fall in love.  Let the love story be part of the central storyline of the game.  That and I'd love to see other people comment on the relationship.

Talent Point Redux  I really don't like having left over talent points.  In ME1 we could at least use them, now they just stare at you, mocking you.  Also I still don't like the fact that choosing one tactical talent improves renegade/paragon points more then the other.  I don't want to take a tactical disadvantage to be able to enjoy the story to its fullest.

No Bandage Garrus I love the scars but could he get the bandage removed and please fix the armor.  I was all for battle damage in my toys but if the Normandy can fabricate weapons and armor it should be able to fix Garrus's.

All Squadmates Available  I loved recruiting people but I missed out on being able to take people on certain missions because of their availablity.  I would love to have all squadmates available or recruitable in the beginning of ME3

Don't Punish the Neutral ME1 and 2 are designed so that your are most successful if you go almost fully renegade or paragon.  Some of us like the gray area.  Is it possible to create neutral territory as well?  My FemShep is usually a total paragon to her friends and allies but don't become her enemy or she will stomp you into the ground and then set you on fire.

More Legion  Because of the plotline of ME2 we hardly had any time with Legion.  I would really love to get more time with the character in ME3.  I think it is awesome.

Visible Helmit Option  I think the option from ME1 to turn the visibility of the helmit on or off is very important.  Especially if you are playing insanity and you need ever bit of stats your armor can give you.  Then you walk into a bar and drink through your helmit and immersive play goes right out the window.  I would also like it if all the squadmates had full space suits of some kind.  Walking onto the Flotilla, having Shepard threaten to take his helmit off when Mirand is standing right there with just a breather is just silly.

Squadmate Blank Stares  There were a lot of blank stares in cutscenes.  Would be good if squadmates would just follow who was talking with their eyes.

Storyline Specific Weapons  I would really like Shepard and Squadmates to always use their own weapons in a cutscene.  It kind of interupts things if suddenly your character or crew has an assault rifle when they are only equiped with pistols.  It would really be cool if they would use weapons based on their class or current eqiupment.  I would love my Shepard to glow threateningly during cutscenes if she is a biotic.

Skip Cutscene Hotkey  Need a button that will skip the cutscene but will not accidentally choose a dialouge option.

Ignoring the standard "same-sex romance" etc options, I'd like to see:

1. More jokes (e.g. Blasto and Elcor Hamlet).

2. Like snellegaming said, more "respec' " for the neutral/grey option.

3. Less whiny squad mates. Sorry, SuZe, but I really can't stand your whining, e.g. "I had it worst!".

4. A bigger focus/increased awareness of assignments. They're just too easy to overlook.

5. Acknowledged female Salarians/Turians/Krogans. We might have seen them but we simply don't know. It's the third game, surely it's time we could see?

6. More armor pieces from the start IF ME2's armor system carries over.

7. Less ammo types - I didn't need to switch out of Disruptor or Incendiary once I had both

8. Much higher level cap than ME2 - 60 if needs be. ME2's cap was hit very quickly if you imported a level 60 Shep, especially if it's the second playthrough.

9. Hacking/Bypass upgrades having a bigger effect. Instead of just increasing the time, possibly reduce the number of targets. Take Hack down from 3 to 2 (sometimes you'd go a short while without any correct pieces) for example.

:)

This would be incredible! If this would be too big to add, I'd settle for a mission where the ship needs to make an emergency landing on a nearby planet, and you and (half) the team need to scour the planet for fuel, while the other half protects it. Would be cool seeing the Normandy landed ANYWHERE while being able to board on and off it or pop open the garage and drive the (updated) Mako around (by updated, I mean giving it warthog like steering from H3, because the handling on that thing was VERY frustrating at times).

My wish, however, is that they make paragon and renegade have more of an impact story wise. The choices you made from the from the first barely change the gameplay/story at all other than a few differences in dialogue (unless I'm seriously missing something). Even if they just made missions exclusive to either paragon or renegade, I'd be happy. Not only would it make for great replayability, but you would also feel that your choices actually mattered. Lot's of choices are good, but what's the point (of going either) if you can save the entire crew, and still choose to have the technology at the end? This is what bothered me about the ending considering none of your choices set anything in stone... I'd be really dissapointed if in the beginning of the 3rd, you're on the Normandy being questioned, and one of them is "Oh yeah, did we decide to keep the technology?" making your decisions feel even more transparent.

Also, make it where enemies don't have regenerative health/shields/armor/barrier and that they don't flank you, they're a pain in the ass on Insanity.

adding to my ever growing list.....

for the Galaxy map, the labels that tell you where stuff is, (like Omega, the Citadel, etc...) make the backgrounds transparent. I find it REALLY FRAKKING HARD to pilot and remember where my ship is when it's behind those labels.

Not sure if someone has mentioned this before, but I think it would be awesome if they had Shepard build a space station as his base of operations against Reaper threats. They could make it upgradeable with more rooms or hangers for vehicles. It would also be great if you could decide which organizations to have for funding based on your decisions. Another great thing that would work is the ability to build more ships to use such as cruisers or frigates.

Something that I really enjoyed was finding new weapons and reading the facts on them. I wish they would make more weapons that you can find or buy from stores. The upgrades were nice and all but I missed the ability to buy weapons from stores.

More area to cover. I feel like this game lacked side quests, there were only a very small amount of them. The Citadel needs to be expanded, so does Omega, and Illium. Having more of an exploration system of landing on planets would also be great. Not like in the first game where it was simply a skin pasted on another planet, but make each planet unique.

Thanks for listening to my rant about how they could make Mass Effect 3 the best RPG ever.

I have two beefs with this game: get rid of the the new ammo system, its freakin retarded. The old one was perfect and different

Secondly, longer missions. One thing I loved with ME1 was the missions that took me 2 hours to complete...and I had something to show for it! whether it was new armor, weapons, or a new squad member. I feel like this game gives me everything at the beginning and I never work for anything I have.

Although I did work for hours on the the new planet mini game, which pretty much sucked ass. I guess thats three things.

For ME3 they should

1. Get rid of scanning the planets, very boring and tedious!!! Causes a lot of hand cramping!

2. Improved cover system, add blind fire like in Gears of War. Would help a lot on Insanity difficulty

I think everything was great...except for one thing, I felt that there was not enough main plot missions. also that all the loyalty missions some how involved fighting enemies...I liked fighting but I need a break in between the main plot just to do some fun, non-lethal missions.

I don't agree, it's perfectly fine they leave it that way. Makes combat more realistic, more potential for death. You have to play smart, unlike in ME1.

I did not like the inventory in ME1, however I do feel that it was a bit too simplified in ME2.

- Bring back customization. eg, I want to put a larger scope on this rifle to give it extra range.

- NUMBERS!!! I didn't like how when you were selecting a weapon, all you got was a block of text describing it. It is nice to keep, perhaps in an 'info' tab, but i would love to be able to see some stats to compare the weapons. Nothing fancy, just simple stats would work for me.

Mining.... ARGH!!!!! make it less of a grind, I don't want to spend hours farming the galaxy, strip mining all the planets with a slow scanner on a grid.

- Re think how it is done, perhaps design a new mini game for it, I did not mind the hacking and bypass ones.

- Allow us to trade our resources for other resources or even credits. I had massive stockpiles of some resources and then was finding myself constantly searching for another.

Story, obviously with ME3 being the finale for the story, I would love to see a whole bunch of different possible endings depending on how you played your character through ME1 + ME2 + ME3.

Exploration. I would love to see Earth and all the other notable places in the galaxy that you keep hearing about. A larger citadel to explore as well as a plethora of side quests would be awesome.

Paragon/Renegade. I would love to see a way you could customize your character depending on what path you chose, with skills that work different ways depending on your affiliation or even paragon/renegade specific skills.

Here goes then...

More guns.  Speaks for itself, more or less.  I like how the weapons feel more distinct in ME2, but I would definitely like to see a few more 'tiers', as well as multiple options rather than just a single 'best' weapon in each weapon type.  A friend brought up the point of grenades not appearing in ME2, but I honestly forgot they even existed, so I'm not sure that's something I'm all that intent on bringing back.

More Citadel.  I enjoyed going back there, and I liked how much (surprising) humour there was involved.  But this space station still feels largely untapped, and I want to explore more of it.  The atmosphere, the characters, the visuals, it's all just so amazing and so sci-fi.

More exploration.  I would really like to see Bioware strike a balance between the ambitious (yet not fully realized) planetary exploration via Mako from ME1, and the much more polished and tidy side missions from ME2.  It feels like they are on the cusp of something great with single player exploration, but they need to revist some of their less successful ideas from ME1 and figure out how to make them work.  I agree that the game is better off without the Mako as it was, but with some overhauling, it could still very much be worth returning to.

More powers.  And I don't mean a dozen more powers per squadmate, I mean one or two more.  Perhaps a few more passive 'powers' which allow more diversity when leveling up.  The powers themselves feel and act much much better than in ME1, but there are perhaps a few balance issues that need to be retuned.

Not more squad mates.  Hear me out.  Assuming you complete the suicide mission with your entire squad surviving, that should be your squad for ME3.  Perhaps some ME1 characters may return, but for the most part, based on the ending of ME2, I want to continue with that group of people, and they seem prepared to do so with Shepard.  I can't imagine how or why they would simply abandon the cause after completing one step towards stopping the Reapers.  Now...if some or all of your squad dies, well, that does present complications.  There are, of course, some possible fallbacks for various characters which may have died.  Though it creates a second problem with people who completed ME2 with their entire squad surviving feeling like they're missing out on content when they can't interact with a new cast of squad members.  It's a complicated issue (probably the most complicated I can think of for the third game), but I still stand firm that roughly a dozen squad members is about the most one would want or need, and the ones I have explored and developed are the ones I want to close out this trilogy with.

More awesome.  Bioware fixed almost everything wrong with ME1, then went ahead and changed some things I hadn't even thought about.  It all comes together great, and further supports my undying faith in Bioware to do be the best at what they do.  In other words, I trust them to know what to do with Mass Effect 3 to surpass even the first two games.
