I would like to see more iconic-'villains' in me3.

ME1-2 Analysis:

In ME1 we had mid-game boss-fights with Saren/Benezia - which is what I think me2 was missing...The build up, the villains-entrance, where the audience can say; "this guys seriously skilled, a dangerious bad-ass, and we need to take him out"

ME has such great characters(inc Shepard), but there not as heroic unless parred against the enemies/mini-bosses they face.I find in ME2 its just 'goons' to 'higher-level goons' (until the end).
I believe the reason is because there is no individual-distinct characters/boss-speciality skills.

For ME3:

I really hope ME3 creates some really cool villain-characters/opposition(against humanity/alien/Shepard/organisations). Some may even involve some specific-crew members. eg. The Shadow Broker/Liara. Although this is not to say each crewmember needs to have a specific enemy- I would like it to feel ‘natural’ and not structured (as long as each character gets development.)

A non-structured example can be- someone going after one of the crew e.g. Miranda/Jacob we’re there is no ‘mission’ but it would trigger depending where the player travels/decisions made e.g. leaving a trail for would be assassins by helping a citizen, chatting up the bar-chick etc.

hope this gets some inspiration bubbling. :wizard:

I looked this thread up liking the idea of one person summing up ALL the requests in a coherent initial post. BUT I see the first post has not been editted in over 3 weeks!

What happened? Did that forumer drop it entirely?

The first post is all about GAME MECHANICS (gameplay requests). What about other things that make Mass Effect great. Things like characters, relationships, backstories, romance? Those are the things that keep the game so vivid... without them, ME would be 'just another rpg/shooter'.

My general request for ME3: Put more time and GBs into those things. It is THEM that make Mass Effect Universe so great, not the gameplay (which is good too, just not outstanding). No matter how great the gameplay is, it's the story (and characters in particular) that get remembered. Dragon Age already had them better, more dialogs, more diversity, more interrelationships, more chats, more personal choices etc. So it CAN be done. And going this way will benefit Mass Effect 3 and the whole ME story by far.

1. [kyle-mac, page 90] About resources. I don't know if BW will maintain the planet scanning system for ME3. But as I played ME2, I wondered why we couldn't get a second upgrade for the scanning system, that would make the scanning circle larger (maybe double it's size) and faster when active.

2. [LadyFuriae, page 90] The Citadel. Absolutely. Everybody want's to see more of the Citadel. Not only that, we want to see parts of the Citadel we haven't seen before. ME2 talks about poverty and gangs kids growing up there. I'd like to see some of the darker, poorer areas of the Citadel too.

3. Generally speaking, what I want for ME3 is more epicness, more drama, maybe a terrible death among your allies, acts of insane bravery... I want romance that feels more dramatic. I want tense musical moments, symphonic suspension. And I want an ending with one of those long epilogues, showing what happens to each of your crew member after the odissey. That's presuming we're not all dying at the hands of the Reapers.

Oh, and I want it for Christmas...

Hmm...lets see (in order of importance):

1. Continuation of romances and possibly of the relationships with the entire crew. What I'm really hoping for is that the crew of ME3 is a combination of your crew from ME1 and 2 and that all the dialogue with them allows you to deepen your relationship with them, especially the LI's.

2. More weapon and armor models. I was kind of disappointed with the number of these in the game. Especially the armor, which the only real way of getting a unique and different kind was to download it. I would love to see a huge variety in the armors you can acquire, even if they had to be purchased in a store rather than looted. And I would love to see some more weapon models as well. Even though there were a lot of upgrades you could get for these items, I would actually prefer if there were less upgrades and more models or even doing away with the upgrades completely and instead getting new more powerful weapons as you progress through the game. There's just something about visually seeing those new weapons that makes its much cooler.

3. Either an improvement of the planet scanner or a completely new system for getting elements or minerals. The scanner was probably the most tedious aspect of ME2 and I found myself playing for hours and not really getting anywhere because I felt I needed to mine every resource a planet had. I liked geekeffects idea of a second upgrade for the scanner. Either that or you could use the same guide arrow that was used for when anomalies were detected. I really don't think finding these resources should be made that hard.

1. Keep the planet scanning. Introduce an imaging system upgrade that allows you to see resource "hotspots" on the planet surface. For example: while scanning for for platinum you see concentrations of it on the surface, move your crosshairs over the area and launch probe. Same for the other minerals. This would make the whole process faster and more enjoyable.

2. Keep the thermal clips but bring back weapon mods.If people want to use things like frictionless materials and simply spam bullets ,fine, but at the cost of reduced damage. Make ammo powers available for everyone where logical. For example: Garrus isn't biotic so he can't therefore generate warp ammo. Shredder, incendiary, armour piercing, and disruptor are for everyone. Also keep ammo choices in the power wheel.

3. Can we sell some stuff please? Increased shop inventories would also be super. WTF happened to all the other manufacturers in galaxy? I'd like to see items that are only available in the Terminus Systems and vice versa in Council Space. More shops, more goods. There's few too many vendors in both ME and ME2.

4. Squad needs armour. I'll buy it, raid merc shipments for it or better yet, give some of those resources I've been mining to Mordin and he can make us some. Let me select what the squad is going to wear just before the missions start and allow me to customize their armour in the armoury the way i can customize sheps in the capt's quarters. And don't forget to helmet toggle!

5. Keep the load out screen. It's awesome and it make sense. I'm not carrying the huge ass inventory around with me like I did in ME1, thank god. Simply expand ME2's inventory to allow for weapon/armour mods during missions. Don't toss the research system out! Keep it the same!

6. Party banter during missions. See DA:O for details.

7. The ability to "romance" our LI's in varying locations, multiple times throughout the game. For example: Sheps got a shower and he/she can't wash those hard to reach places alone.

8. Don't change the combat. It rocks. Christina Norman, please have my children.

9. No space combat or multiplayer. Never. Ever.

10. Make it HUGE. Like12 disks. I'll settle for 3-5 though.

11. Aria. Just a one nighter or friends with benefits but Shep has got to have something she really wants. Especially for renegade inclined Sheps. Not as a squad mate. Although, if she does turn out to be Aleena, I'd like to see a Wrex meets Aria scene. She almost seems sad during the dialogue that hints of her being Aleena, I want to know why.

12. Some sort of freaky, alien death critter for the aquarium. Sunfish are nice but I want some as before never seen ugly, dangerous mini sea monster.

13. Some open area, sandbox style planets like in ME1. I want to explore again. I know the Hammerhead is coming, but I'd like to see some ruins, bizzare landscapes and barren worlds. So many times have I scanned a planet and thought " I wish I could land there." Let us land there and explore! Example: Preying Mouth, Armeni or Junthor and nameless others!

14. If the Normandy needs fuel then we must also have to discharge the drive core. On the planets that are suitable for discharge, make missions or random battles at some of the planets that have travel advisories. If there's a pirate, geth or mercenary warning let us take the risk and sometime be rewarded (punished) with glorious fighting! Also some random exploration of mysterious planets (Preying Mouth) while discharging would also be amazing. Just take the Hammerhead for a spin or head out on foot and check things out..

15. Bring back the ability to board the Normandy without having to leave orbit everytime. If I want to leave, I'll hit up the galaxy map. Airlocks and elevators. Loved 'em. Airlocks would be nice to have again. Felt so seemless.

16. Open concept areas in some environments. I understand why the Presidium was off limits in ME2 but lets have it back for ME3 as well as something like an expanded Illium (maybe the streets groundside) . It be oh so very awesome to be walking around on street level, looking up at the huge towers. Expand all existing locales that exist within ME and ME2. More Omega, Citadel, Port Hanshan, Illium etc. Bigger, more.

BioWare, ARE YOU READING THIS? You better be reading this!
Loved almost everything. I only have my doubts about the load out screen (5). Not a big fan. But if all else becomes this good, who cares about the load out screen anyway.
Oh, as for 7, as much as I find it amusing, maybe it would be... too much romance. I mean, come on, there's a cosmic menace out there and your LI's washing your back?

The entire point I was trying to make is that if Bioware decided to give a romance option for an Ardat-Yakshi character, that they would either have to establish it as sexless or come up with a REALLY DAMN GOOD reason or story development that allows it. If you have any suggestions on Deus Ex Machina's of this sort, I would like to read them.

Edit: It might look as if I am either angry or offended in my posts. I am not. I am only trying to make you clear on my thoughts and the POSSIBLE actions that could occur in future mass effect.

I am very well aware of what your point is. There is no need to explain it twice... Though it seems I have to explain AGAIN.  Shepard could be whatever in "Mass Effect 3". His whole existence could be created from Reapers as far as we know, or made into a android by Cerberus (thats not likely). The only reason "Ardat-Yakshi" has been classified as a "one time meeting", is because no one has survived the process so far. Because they have only mated with races that are common or known. It does not mean that no one in the future wouldnt be able to mate with them.
I am fairly certain they havent mated with keepers or collectors... If Shepard for example has a tiny drop of blood from collectors/protheans or maybe "keepers", then maybe he would survive the process. ITS "EVOLUTION", if you heard of it? The most likely reason for Shepards "condition" is that he has undergone a faster evolution than other humans. Evolution means advancement and the other way around.

I have given you a suggestion already... Shepard is special. In fact his mind in theory shouldnt be able to hold all that prothean "knowledge" that he was given. In theory it shouldnt be possible. But BECAUSE Shepard is special he could. WE do not know why Shepard is special. But yes in "theory" Shepard shouldnt be able to whitstand the Ardat-Yakshi (if he was plain human). But if the writers would keep their minds inside their box, instead of thinking outside the box, the game would be plainly boring, and there would be no twists and turns. Clearly as we have witnessed they have used their minds outside the box so far, and its highly likely they will do the same in the third game.

Hey, everyone.

I have not finished ME2 yet, but am really enjoying it so far. I'm playing the 360 version.
  • A more Intergrated approach to Story-Telling
I love the story / cinematic element of Mass Effect. I love that it is group oriented. I love how they allow for character development, but I do not love how disjointed it all feels from the main story arc. I had a similar feeling with Dragon Age. So, what I mean is that I would love it if the main story-line, and the acquisition of new characters, were more intertwined. For instance, in the very beginning you team up with Jacob, and then run into Miranda. I loved that opening scene. It made sense, and was directly connected to the main story. I think by integrating the characters into the main story-line, and having the main story-line branch out a little more (out of necessity) it could maintain suspense, motivation, and story complexity, as opposed to thje "errand" feel of "assemble your team".
  • Keep reworking the resources
Scanning planets is definitely a step in the right direction, as opposed to driving over barren mojoworlds (a program used to generated fractal, global landscape topographies) with a clunky Mako and recovering the 4 scattered items, and running into the occasional band of marauders. But, I'm still not sold. Making it easier is certainly not the answer (faster, bigger aimer, etc ...), but I think making it "more fun" is the answer. More fun, and more challenging.
  • Hacking and Circuit Work games need more variety and challenge
This was extremely cool the first time I did it. I think I hated it after about the millionth time. I like small little things like this, and I think just adding a little (or a lot) more variety, and or challenge, to this aspect of the game would go a long way. Even something as simple as the faster you do it, the more you're rewarded. Or if you mess up a PDA hack, o secuirty terminal, or door hack, or something, you could trigger a random encounter where you're caught off-guard. Maybe you even set off a trap or something. As it is now you essentially, you can't fail, and if you do you miss out on a door or some credits. I mean, if you're drunk, or not paying attention then maybe you could fail, but otherwise it is just tedium. This is where I think variety could go a long way. For instance, the variable load-screens, in combination with the game-tips was a HUGE improvement. Simple things like scrolling sideways, or changing the code fragments and colors. Simple things like requiring more accurate and dextrous control over the delicate process of circuit work. All would be nice touches.
I think there are a few things worth mentioning that other people have brought up that I think I just all out disagree with. For instance ...
  • Complaint: The missions are basically "linear" or "long corridor"
I disagree with this qualifying as a complaint. A mission is by definition a linear goal. So, even if they had fifteen different ways to complete each mission, someone would break it down into it's simplist form which is linear: "Start and finish this mission". Each mission is a long corridor ... Again, of course it is. You have a starting point, and an ending point, which could be simplified as a corridor. Even if they branched it out a little bit more, you'd have the "maze / dead end" complaint going on. I think BW did an excellent job of staging the battleground in this game. There are several different approaches you can take to each one, and I'm specifically referring to the physical map layout of these encounters. In many instances you can seek high ground, find a choke point, or set up flanks. Very nice job with this.
  • Complaint: Where'd my inventory go? How come I don't have more weapons and Armor?
I'm not as vehemntly opposed to this argument as the above, but I still think the way they handled this problem in ME2 is pretty damn well done. You're a super badass working for an extremely well funded organization. You have a good number of weapons to choose from in the start, and then you find weapons, research upgrades, develop prototypes, and end up with a plethora of choices and combinations. This makes perfect sense to me. Same goes with the armor. You've got a pretty extensive customization aspect if looks are what you're after, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that you'd need a lot of different armors. I think they did a damn good job of weapons, upgrades, and inventory management in this game.
  • Complaint: Difficulty scaling and the feeling of progression sucks.
I think this is a very complex discussion, and one of the main problems I think is a logical one. With such a disjointed approach to story-telling, is doesn't really make sense that the "beginning" of your mission would be measurable harder than the "next mission" just because you did it second. So, without getting too deep into the "complex part", I'll leave it at that for now. If someone wants to pick up on this particular section, then let's do it!

Haha does anyone else not want 3/4's of the suggestions that are listed in the OP? I absolutely hated the bag system in ME1 and I would love to see it never return. I also disagree with the concept of making our levels mean something by making certain enemies harder to fight at lower levels. This makes very little sense to me since this is not WoW where there is a huge dragon who is stronger than every human on the planet. 99% of enemies are other organic beings, and it would be extremely ridiculous if it took 40 shots to kill some dude simply because we wanted to get the feeling that we can't defeat this certain guy because we're not high enough level.

I hated the Mako..**** that honestly. It was by far the most boring part of the game for me. You're weapon upgrade idea makes no sense at all...you want them to change it just to make it unique? How would changing the scope distance make it unique. That is change for the pure sake of change which coincidentally never changes anything. About the linear missions...it is a mission >_O, it has to be linear. I mean, I really don't see what you mean by this. You can run around omega and explore all you want, but there is still going to be a mission that has one distinct goal.

Some of my suggestions would be.

Improve the create a character feature. There is not enough options IMO, and it is more likely that you will come out with a character who has a deformed face rather than a character who is realistic looking. Especially the nose...all the Maleshep noses are horrible IMO.

Make it so the renegade/paragon meter does not take away any dialogue opportunities. I would actually prefer it if it left the dialogue box open, but if you have been a goodie two shoes all game that maybe the person doesn't believe you when you say that you are going to blow their head off. The option should definitely not be grayed out though as it is extremely restrictive and promotes flat characters.

Make the romances less forced. I would appreciate it if I could talk to someone on my crew without them instantly wanting to romance me. It honestly feels like one of the most forced romances I have ever seen in any game. I've talked to this girl 5 times for 2 minutes or so each and she wants to have sex with me already? Damn I wish the real world was like that.

Last but far from least...I would appreciate it if there was an option to not agree with someone without saying something extremely douchebagish. I'd like it if I could say "Sorry Ashley, but I don't like you like that" instead of "You're out of line!". It just feels like all the dialogue options in the game are over the top and forced, and for me personally it really ruins the immersion into the game.

I would like them to bring back the inventory system maybe with some tweaking to make it more user friendly than in ME1. I found myself at odds im ME2 when I was short on credits but I couldn't sell any of my stuff and it felt like something was missing. I mean, inventory is a HUGE part of any rpg and IMO should never be scrapped, I did love being able to alter the colors on my armor, but if we could do that and also choose between different armor sets and weapon loadouts. The reasearch/upgrade system was cool though.
My second idea may not be good for ME3 but maybe for a future installment. Let us create a character from some of the alien races as well! It would be so AWESOME to make your main character a turian or a drell... I understand sheppard is a human and so having a turian or krogan main character wouldn't be sensible for ME3 but maybe a spin off similar to Halo's ODST. But at least in ME3 maybe we could take control of party members like you can in Dragon Age!!! That would be SWEET!!!

That sounds reasonable. While I don't know if Shepard could have evolved that fast or not, I'll accept it as a plausible explanation :). Whether Bioware goes with that in future romance options is up to them.

I agree it would be sweet, but the main focus of ME is humanity. If the character wasn't human that would take a big part of the plot. I mean if Shepard wasn't human there is a good chance ME 1 and ME 2 would of never taken place.

The hammerhead looks real cool but I'm wondering if 3 will have multiple vehicles, and if we'll get tiered missions back like we had in mass effect 1. Landing at a city, driving to your destination, and then doing all sorts of things once you get there gave missions a very grand scale. alot of the missions in 2 are cool but not quite as....massive in feel. It does look like some of the firewalker missions are reminiscent of areas from the main game, so I wonder if there were plans to have the hammerhead more integrated into certain missions or not. Alot of the N7 missions are neat but I'm kind of the type of person that overanalyzes things and is thinking about how he can play certain side missions in succession to create an illusion of "things happening after eachother" (taking the snow hammerhead mission, then the normandy crash site. dumb stuff like that) I do wonder if dlc missions will ever add onto existing missions or if there will be any that are "post endgame only" (It would be cool if we got to team up with ash/kaiden and liara in a campaign that you can't play until after you beat the omega 4 relay, for instance)

And about multiple vehicles, there was that tank in tachunka that we rode in for a bit, and hell, adjusting the handling and weapons on the mako and even that might be more fun to drive.

mixing up the minigames would be cool too.  I would love it if when me3 came arround bioware just threw as many minigames as they could at the thing and just spread them out based on how fun they were (even a frustrating one can be interesting for one or two shots)  Some more dynamics to planet scanning or something might be interesting too.  I dunno.  maybe a more simlike approach with some automated stuff going on (deploying probes that do the work for you, after a few missions they return and give you information on the planets/materials/missions/ect)

I like almost everything Bennyjammin79 is saying and had some of the same things in mind. I still like my idea for the minerals, but that's adding whole new elements to the game. if you're keeping it basically the same, then you at least need visible hotspots like he's saying or a bigger scan area or the directing radar like for finding landing zones or something. as is, it's just too combersome. kind of like the inventory was before. it needs fixed, but not necessarily reduced to scraps.

and i agree that interaction and story are key. the combat really was greatly improved over last game (except for some things getting unbalanced, like biotics), so that might only need very minor adjusting, if any in my opinion. so that means just focus on making the story and interaction as good as possible.

more conversations, random responses when a shipmate has nothing important to currently say instead of saying the same thing everytime you talk to them, more npc world interaction (assassin's creed - lots of crowds, but only certain people that you really personally interact with). as is, the worlds and ship are fairly static, which feels lifeless. if i'm in a place that describes itself as crowded and bustling, i want it to feel that way.

more squad interaction. everywhere. they shout stuff occasionally during combat, but not much and there's minimal banter any other time. they feel like drones that you brought along with you. let their personalities feel always present. i liked in ME1 how i could highlight them and they would give me at least some input on things. i'd like it if my leadership and how i treated them affected them. i can treat them like dirt, but they'll still be loyal to me if i did their mission. that's no good. have different levels of loyalty and have it affect their personalities. if i'm a jerk to them, they shouldn't fight as hard and should do things like interrupt you when you're talking to someone or if i'm negotiating a hostage situation, they just shoot the guy without my go ahead.

different character should work differently together, too. someone else said about how miranda and jack shouldn't work well together if i choose them for my squad on a mission. good idea. they'd still fight, but not as well and two characters that trust each other would follow my lead better and help each other out better by focusing on an adversary if they're targeting the squadmate. and there would be the possibility of them trusting each other more or less depending on how you help them interact together.

more squad interaction could come in the field with npcs. for instance, you take garrus with you to the citadel. he's not going to know everyone in c-sec, but you might pass by someone he does know and that starts a conversation. it may vary from just some friendly interaction to leading to a mission, depending on what kind of mood you put him in. if you don't have garrus with you, you pass by the same guy but don't talk to him because you don't know him. garrus (or whoever) would treat the npc differently depending on how you've treated him and changed his attitude toward life. to keep yourself involved, it would be more of a three-way conversation. and depending on how you treat his friend or foe, that could change your relationship further.

i agree that we need more face-time with defined boss characters. the loyalty missions were great stories unto themselves. well written and gave needed depth to squad characters. they didn't really tie together, though. the main mission felt more like a michael bay movie. lots of bang but no substance. ME1's main story flowed throughout, had multiple actual conversations with a defined enemy of some depth and had a great final boss battle with an enemy that outmatched us but was personal and wasn't over-the-top while we helped give advice on the larger space battle above. ME2 had the typical videogame giant boss that is mostly stationary and you just have to keep hitting it while it conjures up it's minions. it didn't have the same feeling at all. it was still a cool main story (unsung heroes go off on a suicide mission to stop a threat few know about and no one else can handle), but not on the same level as ME1's main story in any regard. there wasn't really much of a chase or sense of urgency. etc., etc.

don't get me wrong. i'm on this forum for a reason. i love these games and i looove the universe created for these games. but they can use improvement. the best part about them is the story, so i just really don't want them to lose any more focus on making that as great as possible than they already have and let us explore and live this universe even more.

If we purchase new gear (armour or weapons) during a trip through a merchant district, give the option to equip on the spot or send the merch back to the ship. Don't toss the research system out! Keep it the same!

6. Party banter during missions. See DA:O for details.

7. The ability to "romance" our LI's in varying locations, multiple times throughout the game. I don't mean anytime you want but more often than just before the "Big" mission, after would be nice too. For example: Miranda really likes a certain piece of music (can't remember the name) maybe Shep could pick up a copy somewhere and invite her up to the capt.'s quarters for a listen. If we can have some drinks and chill with Chalkwas, we should be able to do the same with our LI's. Put simply: make the romances seem less like one stands and flesh them out more.

8. Don't change the combat. It rocks. Christina Norman, please have my children.

9. No space combat or multiplayer. Never. Ever.

10. Make it HUGE. Like12 disks. I'll settle for 3-5 though.

11. Aria. Just a one nighter or friends with benefits for renegade inclined Sheps but only if Shep has something she really wants.

The Character Creater needs the ability to modify an Imported Character's old features.

Right now if you import a character you can choose to keep their looks or you have to start from scratch.  There is no way to take the imported looks and just tweak them.  Please upgrade the character creater with this option.

Now, I disagree somewhat. I thought the constant chatter among the Cerberus crew really helped build a sense of urgency. I really felt for the people experiencing that, and I wanted revenge. I think the background banter in Mass Effect is great, and I have great expectations for it in ME3.

Being able to turn of the spec ammo. i like the special ammo system, but not being able to turn it off was a bummer for me. because in cutscenes the little glowy part would still show while gun was put away.

constant chatter? i must have missed that. i remember some small talk between the two guys leading up to the bridge, the guy and girl in the mess hall and the guy and girl in the dorm. i definitely did like that and always stopped to listen in when i heard it. i'm not saying there wasn't any npc chatter at all. i wouldn't mind more of it and maybe some crew members walking here and there. in both games, the opening scene made the ship feel alive. as the camera moved up the bridge to the cockpit, there was crew movement and people walking around. the crew shouldn't be running around like chickens with the heads chopped off at all times, but some activity might be nice. and/or finding a squad member somewhere other than their designated location. like jacob having a meal and inviting you over to join. i like what's there. i'd also like more of it.

I like your Biotic God graphic. :)
and your choice of profile picture. I thought Kaiden's armor looked really cool in this game. Would've liked to see him or Ash (depending, of course) more in it.

I'm not sure why that's a problem, but I'd be fine either way. Wearing one of the downloadable suits and not being able to see Shep's face at all when he conversed or people like miranda and jack not wearing anything resembling any kind of armor bothers me more.

Definitely. I was really ysurprised by that. I wanted a new haircut. Fortunately, I don't like any of the other haircuts, anyway. Bioware: all the same facial options as before? why? the bone structuring is all good, but it's the same hair and facial hair. And most of them are kinda ugly. forget ME3. include some new hair in a free dlc for ME2. And it's all pretty much straight hair, even when it's buzzed. It's pretty hard to make a decent looking African-American looking male unless he's bald. There were some nice new hairstyles being worn by NPCs. Why can't we have access to those?

Im just hoping that ME3's game length will rival against Elder Scrolls: Oblivion... which can take up to 120 hours lol.
