I have only played Mass Effect 1, but will definitely buy 2nd one soon. So just the things I'd like to see improved from ME1, don't know if they're already done:

- Team. Allies are often stupid and passive but probably the worst thing is how they can be revived but when I die the game is immediately Game Over. It just makes feel like it's all about me and not the Team.
- Useless shops. I have never bought anything except shop licenses, which are useless as well. Probably releates to next...
- Hackers always take atleast 1 of my team slots. Which probably also leads to next...
- The game gets quite easy.
- Elevators and lack of fast running outside of combat makes game slow

+ I have heard some skills have been removed in ME2. Doubt that's good. ME1 doesn't even feel like status-based RPG at all so I don't understand why it had to be made streamlined and faster.
+ Technology and things change so weapon clips and such can be accepted
+ Probably the decisive reason why I bought ME1 was the fact your character can be migrated to ME2. Then I heard some endings are incompatible with the sequels. Plus you will still start from really low level. Those kind of things make me suspicious.

In short the most important thing is character migration. ME3 should really reflect your past choices and actions. This is a feature I would really like to see in other games

I post it here

--3d space exploration : The galaxy map is a very old concept and fail to give the player the sense of travel to the player or the vastness of space. of the ME universe.

With the modern tecnologies, it would be more suitable to have a 3D exploration instead.

Imagine actually driving the Normandy in a third person view from the rear and actually approach the planets, entering the station to refuel the ship, going though a cluster of meteorites ect.

For the jump from a system to a different system, you can have always the galaxy map of course.

--Space Combats : see the normandy engage a space combats only in the cutscenes is just a total waste.

Space combats should be a standard in any epic sci fi game, especially in Mass effect.

It would be pretty cool to have two types of space combats:

-Action space combats: You actually pilot a fighter (the normandy or another ship stored in the Normandy cargo bay), just like any space shooter

-Passive combat: You give order to the crew with the dialogue options.

Having both would be the best.

--Planet exploration : I still don't know why remove one of the best and unique parts of the first Mass Effect just for some whiners ( I hope the planet scanning thing will be removed as well, since it was even more criticized than the poor mako...).

Planet exploration was perfect, it needed only to be improved in three ways

1-Less deserts planets (plants, rivers, alien life forms, less generic building ect.)

2-Better controls for the vehicle (it wasn't that bad in any case)

3-More different kind of side quest

ME2 see an improvements of these thing, but at the cost of exploration, freedom and number of side quest (some system was even empty), I don't think it was a good deal...

With these things, Mass Effect 3 will be perfect, and the best conclusion to this wonderful saga.

Addressing issues with facial animations. The faces in 2 are so amazingly great looking, the mouths move better than most other games out there, the only thing that really stands out still are that the eyes don't really move as naturally as they could, staying deadlocked, not wandering or implying what they're thinking in the way that say...final fantasy 13 does. (The thing I noticed immediately with that trailer) I imagine that animating eyes to be SO REALISTIC is probably SUPER TIME CONSUMING AND NOT WORTH IT but it would be nice if jacob's eyes were as convincing as his mouth is. (Best mouth in videogames right there)

Things I would like to see:
  • Slightly more focus on main storyline.  I don't think this will be an issue because I believe that ME2 was so focused on character development in order to allow for a more epic storyline in part 3, but if that is not the case, then I would be a bit dissapointed.  I really liked the character development, but felt that it was a little bit too much because it detracted from the main storyline in my opinion, leading to a less intense, epic experience that wasn't quite as fulfilling as the story from the first game was.
  • More squad interaction.  I would like to be able to talk to my squadmates during missions, see more interaction between them as well.  This is one of the things i miss the most from the first game.  If squadmates had comments when you went to a different world or mission and also would possibly interact with each other while on the normandy, it would really help make the world feel more alive.
  • No more planet scanning.  It wouldn't be so bad if it was an optional part of the game, but it isn't optional and gets very repetative, especially after you have played through the game a few times.
  • More variation in armor.  I actually like the upgrade system, just wish there were more choices as far as armor graphics and effects.  I think it would be cool if they did a hybrid of the systems from both games.  Use the upgrade system from 2, but make ammo types be drops or purchasable items that you can put and leave on your weapons without having to train them.  This would also help by adding a little more loot to the world itself.
  • no leftover skill points.  Instead of having them leftover with certain specs, just allow the extra points to be distributed to a skill, but only increase its effectiveness by a much lower value when the skill is already maxed out.
  • More forgiving biotic system.  I don't mind that enemies have so many defenses, but would like to see some biotics that can actually have their listed, non-damaging effect on an enemy with defenses up, even if the duration or potency of the biotic is lessened.  Right now, it just seems like the only biotics worth using the majority of the time are singularity, warp and reave.  Most of the other biotic abilities just do minimal damage to shielded/armored enemies rather than actually having their listed effect.  And by the time an enemies defenses are down, it is usually just faster to kill them than use the cc or unique abilities.
  • More important Renegade/paragon choices and also would like to not have them tied to skills and would like to be able to have a middle-ground character that doesn't end up being screwed with choices.  I think it would be nice to able to make your character actually have to think about the choices you make rather than just going straight renegade or paragon.  I know you can choose to mix the two, but that ends up eliminating so much interesting dialogue as well as leaving you with unsatisfying outcomes.
  • No more fuel purchases.  This was just an unnecessary money sink in my opinion.  It really didn't add anything to the game and was more of an annoyance.
  • Import choices from ME1 and ME2 should also have more of an impact on part 3.  Now I know it is impossible to make them have huge impacts because this is a fairly linear, extremely story driven game and it is just not reasonable to expect bioware to have the resources or man power to script, code, voice record and implement as much of this as we would like, but it didn't really seem like the choices from the first game had much of an effect at all outside of adding a few extra conversations,
  • More Legion.  One of the best things about ME2 in my opinion.  Added very interesting elements to the story and I was left wanting more of this.
  • More from the alliance and council.  While I actually liked the addition of cerberus really playing a central part in this, I'm hoping that in the next game there will be some choices about which group to work for/fight, etc.
  • Slightly fewer potentially love interests, but more in depth romance features.  Overall I think it was done pretty well though, the addition of tali as a LI was great as well.
  • No characters that are always necessary.  By this I mean that miranda is by far the most useful teammate in almost any situation.  While it is good to have a powerful character like that, the problem is that it is almost necessary to have her with you on most missions on the higher difficulty settings.
  • At least one central hub city that has a lot of area to roam around in.  The environments and cities were all great and I understand there are limitations as to how much the devs can do, but at least add back the presidium and citadel areas from the first game, even if all you put there are some merchants, a few npc's with dialogue and a few quests.  It is just adds to the scale of the game when you have a larger area like that to roam around in.
  • No more mission recap screen.  Was just completely unnecessary and in some cases completely interupted the flow of things.  For example, finishing the quest for garrus...it ends on a cutscene that is directly continued on the normandy.  The mission recap screen pops up right in between though and completely kills the flow of the storyline.  I know there would have to be some sort of loading screen or something, but in situations like this, even a fade to black or something would be much more cinematic and not interupt the flow as much.

1. Keep the planet scanning. Introduce an imaging system upgrade that allows you to see resource "hotspots" on the planet surface. For example: while scanning for for platinum you see concentrations of it on the surface, move your crosshairs over the area and launch probe. Same for the other minerals. This would make the whole process faster and more enjoyable.

2. Keep the thermal clips but bring back weapon mods.If people want to use things like frictionless materials and simply spam bullets ,fine, but at the cost of reduced damage. Make ammo powers available for everyone where logical. For example: Garrus isn't biotic so he can't therefore generate warp ammo. Shredder, incendiary, armour piercing, and disruptor are for everyone. Also keep ammo choices in the power wheel.

3. Can we sell some stuff please? Increased shop inventories would also be super. WTF happened to all the other manufacturers in galaxy? I'd like to see items that are only available in the Terminus Systems and vice versa in Council Space. More shops, more goods. There's few too many vendors in both ME and ME2.

4. Squad needs armour. I'll buy it, raid merc shipments for it or better yet, give some of those resources I've been mining to Mordin and he can make us some. Let me select what the squad is going to wear just before the missions start and allow me to customize their armour in the armoury the way i can customize sheps in the capt's quarters. And don't forget to helmet toggle!

5. Keep the load out screen. It's awesome and it make sense. I'm not carrying the huge ass inventory around with me like I did in ME1, thank god. Simply expand ME2's inventory to allow for weapon/armour mods during missions. If we purchase new gear (armour or weapons) during a trip through a merchant district, give the option to equip on the spot or send the merch back to the ship. Don't toss the research system out! Keep it the same!

6. Party banter during missions. See DA:O for details.

7. The ability to "romance" our LI's in varying locations, multiple times throughout the game. I don't mean anytime you want but more often than just before the "Big" mission, after would be nice too. For example: Miranda really likes a certain piece of music (can't remember the name) maybe Shep could pick up a copy somewhere and invite her up to the capt.'s quarters for a listen. If we can have some drinks and chill with Chalkwas, we should be able to do the same with our LI's. Put simply: make the romances seem less like one stands and flesh them out more.

8. Don't change the combat. It rocks. Christina Norman, please have my children.

9. No space combat or multiplayer. Never. Ever.

10. Make it HUGE. Like12 disks. I'll settle for 3-5 though.

11. Aria. Just a one nighter or friends with benefits for renegade inclined Sheps but only if Shep has something she really wants. Not as a squad mate. Although, if she does turn out to be Aleena, I'd like to see a Wrex meets Aria scene. She almost seems sad during the dialogue that hints of her being Aleena, I want to know why.

12. Some sort of freaky, alien death critter for the aquarium. Sunfish are nice but I want some as before never seen ugly, dangerous mini sea monster.

13. Some open area, sandbox style planets like in ME1. I want to explore again. I know the Hammerhead is coming, but I'd like to see some ruins, bizzare landscapes and barren worlds. So many times have I scanned a planet and thought " I wish I could land there." Let us land there and explore! Example: Preying Mouth, Armeni or Junthor and nameless others!

14. If the Normandy needs fuel then we must also have to discharge the drive core. On the planets that are suitable for discharge, make missions or random battles at some of the planets that have travel advisories. If there's a pirate, geth or mercenary warning let us take the risk and sometime be rewarded (punished) with combat. Also some random exploration of mysterious planets (Preying Mouth) while discharging would also be amazing. Just take the Hammerhead for a spin or head out on foot and check things out..

15. Bring back the ability to board the Normandy without having to leave orbit everytime. If I want to leave, I'll hit up the galaxy map. Airlocks and elevators. Loved 'em. Airlocks would be nice to have again. Felt so seemless.

16. Open concept areas in some environments. I understand why the Presidium was off limits in ME2 but lets have it back for ME3 as well as something like an expanded Illium (maybe the streets groundside) . It be oh so very awesome to be walking around on street level, looking up at the huge towers. Expand all existing locales that exist within ME and ME2. More Omega, Citadel, Port Hanshan, Illium etc. Bigger, more.

Well my 2c worth,

I would like to see in ME3 the option for 2 styles of play,

basic: the ME2 way of doing things

Advanced: the ME1 way of doing things

don't get me wrong ME2 is a great game, however, I liked the elevator rides it was better than a loading screen any day of the week, I loved driving around in the mako! it was like proper prospecting with a tank to boot.

I loved having multiple armours and weapons that could be customised the way you want, the 10 levels of tech for each item, I liked the openess of the universe and the multitiude of side missions. I will say I like the way ME2 opens up the Story and the universe better and a more controlled way of activating side missions would be an enhancement to the open universe.

I would like to see a return to the character development that was available in ME1, ME2 is just too Dumbed down by comparison.

The final thing I would like to see is a return of the "View Bob" the gun sites and the running is too mechanical in ME2 I liked having to compensate for sway  on my sniper rifle and the feeling of movement that was there in ME1.

Oh and one last, last thing, the film grain on ME2 was greatly reduced and I think I preferred the Film grain effect and motion blur in ME1 more,:)

Saying that the ME2 world environments were way superior to ME1  so that obviously would be the way to go.

PS, give us back the Presidium!

I apologise for what I'm sure will be repeats, but hey, just take them as a vote in support for the person who said it first.

1. More elaborate squad interaction and depth therein. The thing I loved most about the Samara interactions was that you could go Paragon, and not end up with a romance, but a friendship. I disliked that essentially doing the "noble" thing with every other female squad mate led to romance. If possible, during these interactions, there should be a "noble friend" response, and a "noble romance" response (and of course the corresponding renegade responses too).

2. Space combat beyond cutscenes. Simply a must, even if it is more strategic, i.e. giving orders to your crew and/or fleet. Lots of potential here.

3. One home, one load...ing screen. I think this is possible and would really help make Normandy feel more like home. All the other loading screens were handled well, and the Normandy's screens were nice, but it really felt like the Normandy was just chunks. ME1's Normandy, even with the cargo elevator, felt much more connected.

4. Inter-squad chatter. We got a bit of this after each recruitment mission, but there was never anything on the level of the elevator rides from ME1. Also, while I understand that ME2's story was more about getting the squad to trust you, I think getting them to trust each other is important too. More interactions like the Miranda-Jack and Legion-Tali ones would be nice.

5. Consequences. While we some some responses...mostly emails...to our actions in ME1, there was very little in way of actual ramifications. The Save/Kill Council comments basically summed it up best. If the only actual consequence of Galaxy altering actions is one extra or one less dialogue, that's not a very inventive consequence in my opinion.

6. Expand, but control items and shops. Fairly self-explanatory. ME1 had too much stuff, ME2 has too little.

7. More DA:O style romance. I don't mean the immediate access to boudoir type romance, but the more physical interactions that were available. I obviously have never been to an alternate future (or have I?), but it seems odd that it is only after sex that affectionate kissing is possible (Shep-Liara). I really liked that one of the options with Morrigan in DAO was simply to kiss her, that made sense to me. Why couldn't there have been a "hold hands" option with Tali, or a "kiss" option for Miranda, or a "insert appropriate physical romance option" for Jack?

8. Branch out. These are very wistful wishes, but I'll make them nonetheless. Let us do things in ME3 completely unrelated to saving the Galaxy. Jack suggests being a pirate...why not? What's more renegade than boarding and/or capturing other ships for the good of your crew...and thus implicitly the the galaxy. Alternate base(s). Something like the Forts of TES: Morrowind, or the later installments in Oblivion. I liked customizing Shep's cabin, and loved upgrading the Normandy, but Shep's cabin really only whetted my appetite, so much more could be brought to the fore in a creative way. Space station, moon base, abandoned leviathan, etc.

I loved ME2, I just think with some of the wishes on this thread, and a push toward equilibrium, ME3 could be something even more special than what we want.

While I was playing ME2, I noticed that the whole scanning and piloting the Normandy from planet to planet reminded me a little of Star Control 2. That got me thinking: what if you combined the cover-shooter/RPG of the first two Mass Effects with the major gameplay elements of Star Control 2?

Here's how it might pan out: At the beginning of the game Shepard gets his/her hands on a big-ass ancient vessel that has a modular design. In addition, your objective becomes to assemble a fleet of ships to fight off the Reapers. You travel the galaxy recruiting allies, gathering resources, and fighting in ship-to-ship combat that is engaging without getting bogged in details. The choices you made in the first two games determine what ships you are able to add to your fleet. Meanwhile, your big ship is upgraded into a combat monstrosity.

Meanwhile, your still going down to planets in person and cover-shooting to meet story objectives. The two gameplay formats are woven together to form a dynamic narrative. An important scientist is deep within a well-fortified planet. Do you go in with your main fleet guns blazing, or do you try to sneak in with the Normandy? The decision you make has ramifications in the rest of the story.

The story culminates with the fleet you assemble fighting the Reapers in a massive battle that you have control of, with a final cover-shooting stage coming either before, during, or after the battle, depending on what the story calls for.

I'm sure that the Bioware team has played Star Control 2. I highly encourage them to take this route, as it could quite possibly be The Greatest Game Of All Time. And I don't you that term lightly. Not since Master of Orion 3 broke my heart. :(

Bioware think for a minute. Do you want to make Mass Effect 3 a more fps style game that will attract (might) attract more sales.....or do you wnat to make the perfect ending to one of the greatest seires that has ever been made in gaming history.....one that truely pleases the REAL fans of Mass Effect. We follow your games for a reason...because they never fail to be completely wonderful games...do you really want to stray from that now for more sales? just a thought

ok ive narrowed it down to something easy that i want. I want bigger areas and a little more exploration. thats it. THIS IS SPACE...i dont want to feel confined to a few linear areas. even if some of the main levels are linear thats fine i just want some places to explore some amazingly beautiful or sad places to just look around and see and talk. That is all i want for ME 3 everything else can be just like ME 2 please just dont make space feel small.

Slyguy07 I agree with BurstAngel75, there was simply a ton of stuf on the inventory, I found myself changing things up constantly from fight to fight. A lot of the ammo for instance was not needed. That said, it was jarring to see how far back things were pulled, clearly to attract more fps fans. Here's the thing though, Mass effect was never a pure rpg, if it was I for one wouldn't have bought it, I wanted the conversations, the upgrading and the free exploration with the immediacy of an fps. It was built in such a way as to attract a wider audience, ME2 continues that trend. I doubt they would want to alienate any new fans by bringing back the hefty inventory in ME3 and I think they managed to pull off this dramatic scaling back quite well. I think better customization is needed though, I loved finding different armours like the colosuss.

Whoa settle down there I didn't say bring back the clunky cluttered mess for an inventory in ME1. My problem is that there is not one just a dumb armor and weapon locker on the ship. They were neat ideas, but they were too radical a change from the first game. I went back to play ME1 last night and it felt alien after playing ME2 so much. I was kinda saddened by how so many abilities are still useless in ME2. Biotics and tech need a serious overhaul. Biotics are near useless and tech is only good for taking down defenses. Charge, warp, and maybe pull are the only biotics worth a crap. (HC and insanity only)

t hand. There needs to be an inventory. Just not a an infinite loot bag. If some shooter fanboys can't compromise with that they need to realize the RPG/level/loot ppl have next to nothing they wanted  aside from a good story and fairly good combat. I still am disappointed with how guns are the only good way to kill people on HC or Insanity. They need to rethink the combat system again.

Biotics should work on people with shields or armor or barriers. They just need to make certains work perhaps against certain defenses or make certain enemy types immune to specific powers. In ME1 Shepard felt powerful. In ME2 he felt skilled, but not like he was anywhere near as badass. I miss that feeling. :crying:

I am not saying make the game easy, but it needs to have some things changed imo  for ME3. That being said ME1 and ME2 are both great games with different strengths and weaknesses.

I am not saying make the game easy, but it needs to have some things changed imo  for ME3. That being said ME1 and ME2 are both great games with different strengths and weaknesses.

I still believe that the inventory system in mass effect 2 is better, than before, EVEN though you only can access it from The Normandy. I say let them expand it further by more customization etc etc.
Also when it comes to high difficulty using biotics, you are dead on my friend! Biotcis are a complete waste, I kill all my enemies with guns even though I am "vanguard" = "half biotic, half soldier". I can accpet that the biotic powers are crappy at the beggining of the game, but after finishing it twice reached level 30, and the powers have become worse? thats something i believe is very bad gameplay. I mean i choose high diffiult because I want the game to be hard fron beggining, I dont want the game to be harder the more levels you achieve.
I renember starting game on insane, I thought the enemies were kinda easy. 3-5 headshots at most on the mechs, but now when im level 30 it takes about 5-7 headshots to kill them.... Freakin bad id say, and even worse when it comes to powers...
For example they should have allowed some powers to be able to target outside shields if the power had level 4. Or at least not deal insanely low damage!!! My charge power (fully upgraded, and im level 30) takes about 10% on most of my foes (on health bar). that is LOW. There is no use for me using it, since I can hide behind a crate shhoting them down much faster (using incineration ammo, because its still usefull).
