Did he die at ostagar? please say he somehow survived!!!

I read the books and quickly became depressed that every character you loved is dead or turned traitor...

I also hope he somehow survived. But I was more annoyed at Loghain than at the loss of Duncan. He was a HERO! And now he's a d-bag. That sucks, I like him.

I did not read the book but I lost respect for Duncan after he killed Ser Jory. I understand his position but I can't help feeling there is a better way to handle the situation.

As for Loghain, he is a politician through and through.. What he did was right, but the King is not... er.. king-calible.. He may very well be thinking of the greater good.

Sorry to bump an old post but I was thinking about this myself. We didn't actually see Duncan die, we didn't have anyone who saw him die and we never see the body. I geniunly thought he wasn't dead and was surprised that he didn't pop up. I just don't believe a characters dead until I actually see it happen and I don't understand why they didn't show us or expand upon it later in the game, especially when Duncan was such an important character.

It's almost as if they were setting it up for him to return but just never got around to it.

Repeat after me:

Duncan is dead.

Duncan is a corpse.

Duncan is pushing up daisies.

Duncan met his maker.

Duncan shuffled off this mortal coil.

Non-believer! Heretic! Blasphemy! May the Maker strike you down in all his unquestionable might! Duncan is alive, I have seen it with my own lyrium-infused eyes!

There is hope, actually.

See, Duncan was actually a very successful Drag King, and was likely dragged off into the Deep Roads to become a Broodmother.

Or maybe they were setting us up to believe he survived and kindling a small flciker of hope inside of us, only to have it hurt so much more when we realize a tthe end of the game that he did die :(

You pretty much see his vision right before the headslice effect, unless.....zombie Duncan in future DLC?

Duncan was being Called. Grey Wardens who are called are generally captured by the darkspawn to wait it out until he becomes a darkspawn. Look at Bregan.

The whole axe to the head thing seems to dispute this idea.

Wardens who go through the calling possess darkspawn regeneration. Unless his head got chopped up/off it is highly likely you mowed him down in a darkspawn wave.

Seeing as how the cutscene implies exactly that I'm not sure what your point is.
Moreover this vaunted "darkspawn regeneration" doesn't stop darkspawn from dropping dead after a blade in the gut.

I'll have to watch it again on my next playthrough but I'm still under the impression that If I don't actually see it in a game the character could of escaped. I'm accepting that Duncan is dead, I just FELT as if they were planning on bringing him back considering we didn't actually see him die.

Yes, I was also actually very disappointed when they gave us the impression that Duncan died at Ostagar. I am one of those who refuse to accept that he actually IS dead until i see his body... :)
I kept waiting through the whole game for him to reappear and comfort me with his warm voice. :crying:

mm, I got the impression that, although not 1st person perspective, we were actually witnessing the result of Loghain's treason from Duncan's point of view. So when it goes black that would be because something like, oh, a Darkspawn axe to the brain, had just brought Duncan's point of view to an abrupt end.

Granted I haven't read the book/s (yet), but I was under the impression that the Calling is the Grey Warden's last, 'glorious' battle in the Deep Roads. Basically that they know when they're beginning to turn, and they go kill as many Darkspawn as they can before they're overwhelmed and killed themselves. I can't believe that if a Grey Warden fully turned they would be a type of Darkspawn easy to miss on the battlefield...then again, maybe that's what the Emissary-type Darkspawn really are...

I thought until the end that Duncan was coming back to take the killing blow to save you and Alistars ass, but it never happened. :[

You see several darkspawns running at him and you hear "thump" - what more does it take to persuade you people that he really truly didnt survive that axe in his head?

To all Duncan-lovers out there, i will offer closure and comfort to your unresty souls. I assure you; Duncan did not die. This is confirmed by a very good friend of mine who saw the battle, who was IN the battle.

The thing is, there was another recruit - a secret one, one that was recruited only months before. She fought bravely by his side upon till the very last moment when the darkspawn alpha came to cleave Duncan's head in two. In that split second, this recruit released a wave of energy, transporting her and Duncan to an alternate universe far and beyond Ferelden and Thedas.

You might have seen him, you might have heard of him. He will never admit it, but he now serves mankind in a different way. Under the name Chuck Norris, he fights evil and bad-ass bad guys for the sake of humanity!

While I guess there is a chance Duncan could still be alive, albeit a very a small chance, I think they decided to not show you his death for effect. If memory serves, throughout the entire game you never actually see a Grey Warden die."Spoilers." Though you do see your own corpse, if you choose to slay the Archdemon yourself. I don't know, I believe he's perished but I think it is strange they didn't have Duncan's body in the Return to Ostagar DLC. Maybe he was intended to be in there and cut or maybe there are future plans for him. Maybe we will be exploring some Darkspawn base and come across Duncan's body on an alter or something like that. Again I really have no idea, just my two cents.

His beard protected him. His beard deflects blows, poisons, spells. it is truly a wonder to behold.
