Different characters with different romances work for me!

Playthrough #1 - Was with Ashley, now with Miranda. Want to see that conclusion in ME3.

Playthrough #2 - FemShep has no time for silly romances! She has a galaxy to save!

Playthrough #3 - Haven't started it yet, but this other FemShep will remain loyal to Kaidan.

That's all I planned out so far.

I will say I am expecting epic awkwardness between Tali/Ashley.

I had to stay "faithful" because Kelly got turned into paste. I wasn't expecting that at all. Oh well.

Found Jack and Miranda to be easily ignorable, and thus wasn't really concerned about replacing Ashley as the LI in my import (not that I realized there was any reason to stay faithful at that point).  And then Tali accidentally said more than she'd intended in the engineering section...

/sigh

I completed my new LI-less ME1 playthrough late last night.  The Ashley and Liara play-throughs will need to wait for a later date...

And in contradiction to many of those posting here, imo the "why I'm really doing this" conversation with Liara and the post-Horizon apology letter from Ashley leave me perfectly content with keeping focused on them with the relevant Shepards.

I tried to abstain for Ash's sake. But still flirted with my yeoman and Miranda on occasion. But totally lost control when Tali begun flirting with me... Well, not flirting. Outright suggesting more like :D Damn. I think I'll keep that playthrough as my 'canon' just to see what happens when Ash finds out.

Ditoo, but she sure didn't treat me like an interest. Her focus is on the SB even if I'm about to die. I really hate how they handled my ME1 Love Interest. Its even worst for the human (ash/Kaiden) choice. They just get a conversation and then an email. Liara just ignores me, Tali, & Garrus.

Why can't the characters be happy to see part of the game?

For my last playthrough that I will do before Mass Effect 3 comes out, I will stay faithful to Liara. She's mah lady.

Same with me.

I suddenly find myself wishing that I'd had my FemShep romance Liara, because Kaidan's post-Horizon letter is really lacking. Ashley's at least expresses genuine regret and eagerness to see you again, and that was enough for my Adept to stick with her. But my FemShep soldier is quite upset with Kaidan and will now probably wind up with Garrus instead. My engineer hasn't reached 60 yet so I'm not importing him until that playthrough is done, but I was planning on having him romance Liara. With Tali's scenes in this game, though, I'm re-thinking that. Or I guess I could just make a fourth playthrough for the Tali romance...

Considering that she helped save you the first time that you died, cut her some slack!

She's raising money so that she can just donate another 4,000,000,000 credits to Cerberus to fix you up again!

:P

My renegade is an ****, but he is an old-fashioned, traditional, family-minded ****. As cute as Tali is, he's not going to cheat on Ash.

My paragon, on the other hand, is a huge xenophile, so she's jumping on garrus as soon as she gets a chance. Heh.

I stayed faithful to Kaidan, but I think the cheating fallout will be hilarious, too bad I don't have the heart to cheat on Kaidan. I, as opposed to alot of people, liked his email.

I screamed at my Shepard for the weird sexytime tone she took when she first talked to Jacob, I was a total ***** to him because of that. Only did his loyalty thing because I didn't wanna risk anyone else dying... but man, that annoyed me.

Yeah...had to stop talking to Jacob entirely :/ Unfortunate, liked him as a crewmember.

I'm in theory still faithful to Kaiden. If only because my Shep has learned that sleeping with squad mates can be....complicated. As far as she knows, Kaiden ended things, and that stings enough that she doesn't feel like looking for another companion right now. Whether she's willing to let Kaiden try to patch things up will depend on how things are handled in ME3.
So if being faithful is the same as not romanceing someone else in the meantime, then my Shep is still "faithful."

(warning: possible spoiler for DA:O)
He's a great crewmate and a great guy, but everytime my femShep
initiates a conversation, it's like she wants to bone him on the spot.
I guess you can only go so far w/ Game mechanics.  One of the things that bother me about romances in ME2 is that they seem to initiate too early.  While not forced, the direction is clear.  I may be wrong, but it seems that if you don't romance certain characters, you really don't get to know them as well as the others.  In DA:O, the romances seem to grow more naturally, but then again, you can talk to party members just about any time. Such is not the case in ME2.  The only thing I didn't like w/ the DA:O romances was that if you broke it off w/ a character, it was as if it never existed.  (except w/ Leliana. You can actually ask how she is feeling about it later).

Anyway, my femshep stayed loyal to Liara, though she flirted w/ Kelly and was tempted by Garrus.  Went pretty far w/ Garus, but tactfully broke it off.  He stayed loyal.

Go after your crew faster next time. She is savable. Though She may not have come through it undamaged.

Well, since you can't romance with Samara I guess I'll stay faithful to Liara.

I'm disappointed that she isn't a LI though..

My first playthrough of my original Shepard from ME1 I'm staying with Ash, even if she was a kind of a **** to him on Horizon.

Subsequent playthroughs with this Shep in NG+ and other Shepards will definitely be playing the field.

I started ME2, wanting to stay steady with Kaidan with my original FemShep. Everything was peachy...

Until Horizon. Argh. I can understand the sudden shock of the whole situation, but the lack of being able to get a word in edge-wise and his total lack of faith in Shepard herself pretty much killed his chances outright. The resulting e-mail helped to a degree, but it wasn't enough when there was no way to e-mail or meet in person again before the suicide run.

So, it's time to look at the other options:

Jacob? Token Cerberus male operative; yang to Miranda. His talks started off well enough, but it dissolved into conversations where it made it sound like Shep was just gunning to get in his pants. Urm, ok? My Shep was all about some flirting like what was possible with Kaidan, but this was way too much and too soon.

Garrus? My right-hand turian. A trusted comrade who didn't go absolutely basket-case all over my Shep the second he saw her. She'll forgive the sniping attempt just this once! As a romance? It's a sweet idea as it's an interesting relationship to see develop. However, the execution leading into those talks was cringe-worthy. He was quite uncomfortable with the notion and I (as the player) felt horrible trying to make my Shep push him on this topic. In the end, My Shep didn't go through with it, happy enough to have him as her close friend. It felt right this way.

Thane? Quiet drell assassin that is very easy to sympathize with from the first time you meet him. Part talking codex entry, part perfect memory flashes, he was interesting to listen to as he opened up about his life and how it would've likely ended if Shep hadn't shown up. In the end, my Shep went with him as he could understand her situation better than anyone else and vice versa. From my Shep, he was the missing puzzle piece that Kaidan should've been.

So, Thane wins. I went into ME2 without much clue who would be romanceable and I didn't think I would choose anyone else for my Shep, but I was quite wrong which is a pleasant surprise. I'll be very interested in how it plays out in ME3. On a side note, I'll be quite ticked off if Thane isn't a part of Shepard's crew in ME3.

P.S. Sorry, Kaidan. Your sudden Carth complex was the nail in the coffin.

I was planning on staying loyal to Ashley. But seeing the ice queen Miranda melt...well, I decided to open the door. Though it took me to the collector ship mission to actually turn down Ash's photo in the cabin. And since that was my authentic emotional reaction, that's my 'main' Shepherd. (Will want least one faithful playthrough, though, in case the pay-off is totally amazing.)

Hardest decision in the game, and I agonized over it a lot. The Krogan genophage was easy by comparison.
