How can you romance Tali, Than or Garrus? That's just kind of sick...litlle half turian/ drell/ quarian and human babies? And why romance Thane when he's dying like an old man who smoked to many molbroros?

I don't assume they can have babies. If a cat and a dog get it on, they'll probably enjoy it, but they won't have little baby cogs.

Because they're the most romantic romances in ME? And Thane has that whole tragic romance thing going for him. The lasses dig that.

This isn't Star Trek. There'll be no hybridisation of alien species, except the Asari who don't count.

Anyway, the Tali, Thane and Garrus romances were all nicely written and are every bit as valid as the human romances. Having children may have been the original goal for relationships, but I like to think we as a species have surpassed purely evolutionary motives.

Interesting to see how people reacted to this issue.

For my "main" playthrough:

My Soldier romanced Ash in ME1 (since Tali wasn't an option then) and stayed true to her. And I'll tell you why....

The way I looked at it, even though it's been 2 years for everyone else, to my Shep waking up in the lab, it didn't feel like 2 years to him. The attack from the Collector ship comes a month after the Citadel and FTL drives between systems near a Relay can take at least days. So that is plenty of time for some feelings to develop. And after traveling months game-time in ME1 with Ash, he wouldn't just drop her.

True, after two years Shep's LI has changed. And the confrontation on Horizon with them was harsh. (Speaking from experience, I know what grief/loss can do to a person.) You have to understand that if you did all the side missions in ME1, you and your team knows all about how corrupt Cerberus is/can be. And the ME1 LI does try to reconcile via email (true, a vid communication would have been better). So, from the perspective of my Shepard, yeah, he stayed true to his ME1 LI, Ash.

Miranda won me over the first time through.  I was really hoping there'd be a "Let's take a break, Liara" option when speaking with her, but no dice.  The existing love interests were so barely acknowledged as love interests--really, I think it was only the awkwardly animated kiss upon meeting--that it felt like the romance was already over.

I shall remain faithful to Tali, since she was the girl I wanted to romance in the first game anyway. =]

I honestly felt no connection with Liara in this game she changed so much and she didn't seem to give a drap about Shepard anymore it was quite disapointing, therefore I started something with Tali.

I would have stayed faithful is I actually got something out of seeing her again like a night of passionate love making.

Actually, the ME1 romance wasn't a one-night stand. Talking with Joker after Horizon (if you romanced Ash or Kaidan), he says that you and your love interest were considered to have been "dating".

That said, I tried a Thane romance, and immediately regretted it. The romances for Femsheps in ME2 are...lacking. I went back in my game and stayed true to Kaidan. And anyways, he's all hot and leader-like and fiery passionate this time around!

Me likes.

The writing for her in ME2 was horrible yes, there wasn't any mention or any option to allow you to say or ask on where she and you stand at the moment with the relationship. Besides you don't love someone when all you want to see is passionate love making. Why does that have to happen in order for a relationship to work? You already experienced that in ME1.

If you have read the comics and listened to the special dialouge (that alot of people missed out) with her after completing her missions, your opinion on her will change. She hasn't changed, it's just an act as she doesn't want to look "soft or weak" to her enemy the SB. In addition she went through extreme lengths and determination to get back your dead body from the SB (whereas others like Tali and Garrus just moved on, Liara didn't) and to give it to Cerberus in the hope you could be resurrected. Cause she said "she couldn't let you go".

Aside from the awful writing, I find it very hard to cheat on someone who not only cared for you, but has done so much for you. Without her in ME1 you think you would find Ilos? Would you still be around in ME2 without her? You probably be some mindless reaper husk or liquified goo in that human reaper.

Even if it is just a game, I just can't stand the thought on cheating on Liara who was my LI and what she has gone through to get me back. For that I am staying faithful to Liara.

Yeah, sure, I'll be loyal... To Tali.

In retrospect, I'm glad my Shep was relatively puritanical throughout ME1.

two characters for me

My male soldier didn't have a LI from ME 1 so i went with Tali

My female infiltrator on the other hand remained faithful to Liara, even though the story pretty much dropped the ball on the old characters, but hey. ME 3 is coming. just the question is when... :(

FemShep stayed faithful to Liara, but the writer's for ME2 have a lot to answer for with Liara and a few other things.

As far as I'm concerned Ashley and my shep are broken up, he's not unfaithful because they're not together anymore.

Yep, me too. That was my thought on it. And with that, I figured that it was probably too fresh for my Shepard to move onto other relationships. :: shrug ::

May start one with no previous romances, but for this one, I'm happy to stick with Kaidan.

i beat the game 8 times so far and never once stayed faithful. after that break up scene on horizon i can't be bothered. and after liara quoting indoctrinated benezia, she is very ugly to me.

meanwhile, jack, miranda, tali and kasumi are waiting for my lovin

Stayed completely faithful to Ash in my first playthrough. My Shepard was practically a damn monk.

That scene towards the end where he just looks sadly at her picture made it all worth it, though.

^ This. The picture scene was too cute. Added to that, I found the FemShep ME2 LIs just a little too awkward. Talking to Jacob made me embarassed on Shep's behalf; Garrus is all...turian and scarred; reading the "I want you, Thane" option nearly made me die of laughter.

My primary Shepard (F) is reserved for Tali, should they ever enable the option to pursue that relationship in ME2 or possibly in ME3. So in that sense, yeah, my femshep is faithful.

Staying faithful to Kaidan. And I'm one of those people who role-play as close to an alter ego as possible, never playing "full Renegade" playthroughs just for the fun of it. Breaks my immersion.

I simply wasn't attracted to any of the FemShep LI's. Garrus maybe a little but he is a turian so I don't really see him and Shepard getting on it in my head...

I won't give Bioware the satisfaction of getting "cheater!" flags from my playthroughs, after the absolute shambles that was their importing of the ME1 romances into ME2.

After the complete wrecking of Liara's character and romance, and the short, inconsequential, and angry appearance Ash makes, I will just not romance people in ME1 any longer. Middle finger from Bioware seen and acknowledged. "Second act" of a three act love story, my foot!

Male Sheps will go after Miri or Kelly in ME2, FemSheps will have to stay celibate or try the Yeomance.

I'll prolly try out the Jack and Jacob romances at least once, too.
