If, on the other hand, you are the one who is too sensitive then you have the option of not purchasing any game that is labeled 'mature'.

Problem solved!

Are there headphones for the XBox? Head set yeah, but wearing that is ackward.
Besides, you're being a bit too overbearing, i know cause I am. Nothing wrong with a filter. it allows people who are overly sensitive, or have kids, to still play a wonderful game and a wonderful story. Why are you trying to prevent people from playing it? Isn't the goal here to have more people play, not less.
If a filter, which is quite easy, is added more people will play. that is a GOOD thing.

He's asking for a freaking filter. A FILTER. F.I.L.T.E.R.

he's not asking for it to be removed.

In my opinion they weren't disturbing where they were placed. I found it fitting to the characters/situations.

But a language filter that dunno, maybe cuts out the given word, if people desire to have it, I support the idea.

The language is as is because it's the way that character talks. Sure, Shepard died, but he sure as hell did not end up in heaven where everyone are angels and crap flowers. He woke up in the same miserable pool of reality he died in.

That's a little narrow minded. ME2 is a truly exceptional game and many people would like to enjoy it without the profanity. Many games have a 'low-gore' or 'no-blood' option to cut out more gratuitous violence, so the individual gamer can choose for himself. All the OP was asking was if it might be considered as a possibility for ME3.

I just don't think the swearing fits. Get over it.

I think the way they handled the nudity is ok I guess. But if Jack plopped a t*ttie out and said "hey Shepard, look at my BREAST" I would view it the same way I view the forced swearing in ME2.

lol I don't have a problem with it, I simply disagree :)
It might be because all the people I've known in the military swear all the time and all go to the bars to party and pick up one night stands if they're single :o

I'd understand more of the hateful responses if he said, "Swearing is for retarded children and should not be in games.  I demand that you remove it!"
But he was quite polite and his post was well constructed. :)

Well I have a problem. and Jack wouldn't say breast.
So tasteful nudity is fine? kind of not nude at all, well, suggesting they are, but not being seen? What about full frontal, or even partial? Are those things low class?

So if the game had the Venus de Milo in it, or something similar.....people would petition to have it censored? Americans have some really weird views on things that should be censored I know, but there's a point where it gets to be stupid.

I want to thank you for actually being a normal sane person about this and just simply disagreeing.  Which is great, because it makes for great conversations!

I'm just having a hard time understanding the hostility towards me just because my point of view.

But thank you for the civility.

My Jules Shepherd (Samuel L Jackson wanna be) agrees, Mutha*****!

The profanity in the game is perfectly suited to the situation and characters.  I think a language filter is not unreasonable, but it effects both the artistic content (such as it is) and the ratings (pretty obvious Bioware and EA have no interest in a Teen rating on this series).  Also, I find language filters to unitentionally add humor to a scene (see Brutal Legend) and it's NOT the type of humor that belongs in Mass Effect.

Overbearing (good choice of word); yes I am! :P

I just wanted to provide good solutions without taking any energy away from Bioware that they could spent into making more for games like DA:O and ME2.

Besides, I am of the opinion that the creator should release their creations in the way that they want and not by taking in consideration everyone else's preferences.  Too much time is wasted on trivial things!

I heard my friend say that Assassin's Creed 2 was disgusting because it portrayed breasts in a painting.

One can argue games are a trivial thing, but that's neither here nor there.
Just the amount of time spent making a filter isn't hard, a weeks worth of production.
I'm all for letting people do as they like with their creation and how to put it out there, but that doesn't make a filter a bad idea. Just a little something to make more people happier without pissing off other people.

This seems to be veering wildly off-topic. The OP was specifically NOT to cast judgement as to whether people should/should not find swearing offensive or the rights/wrongs of censorship. It was merely to ask Bioware to consider the possibility of a language filter.

There are numerous reasons why a language filter would be much appreciated by a lot of people.

EchoTango made an intelligent comment :-
"And I imagine people want a filter not because it offends their
delicate sensibilities, but probably because they have kids.  And
before you blast off on some self-righteous rant about all the
violence, the kids aren't on your lap staring at the screen.  They're
playing on the other side of the room, they're running around, etc.
Audio carries, but the quick visuals don't get seen."

For those who like to hear swearing : why is the request for a language filter a problem if you still have the option to play it "uncensored'? This option would simply enable many other gamers to enjoy this phenomenal game without the profanity.

Some have said that it would be too much work for Bioware to implement. In reality, applying a RegEx expression to the subtitles to remove/mask profanity and providing a 'beeped' version of the necessary audio files is not actually a great deal of work. Really though, that's a question for Bioware to consider rather than the community 2nd guessing what's involved - hence the original request.

your still missing the point it's not nessary, if you don't want your kids to hear it then don't play it around your god damn kid, should porno come with optional mosaics if your kids happen to be in the room? or better yet turn down the volume and turn on the Subs. And again if your offended by profanity don't by the game or get over your self, it's that freaken easy. We put rating on games for a reason, if you can't handle such content it's strongly recommended that you DON'T BUY THE GAME! Regradless of it's quality. Why should Bioware bother putting on some thing not even remotley nessary just because people are buying games for the wrong reasons.

No - it was not a request to "remove" profanity. It was a request asking if it's possible to consider an optional filter - much like the optional "gore"/"blood" filter that many games have.

Akimb0 wrote...
People are "abusive and hostile" when they point out how ridiculous the request is? If he didn't want peoples opinions on this, then he shouldn't have posted it on a public forum.

Bioware are one of the few companies who actually read the forums and consider their customers. This is the best place to make such a request. The OP was hoping that people might be civil and be able to disagree without hostility. Bioware can decide whether it's a reasonable or "ridiculous" request.

Buying games for the wrong reasons? Not really sure what that means, but whatever?
Say you are a prude, but want to play one of the greatest games ever made, should you be excluded from playing it? because someone like you says you're not worthy? you want to exclude people for a BS reason. especially one that will be a simple switch. We aren't even talking about removing the swear words. we're talking about the OPTION to remove the swear words, if you so desire. see this thread is asking for the OPTION to do it, not the force it down everyone's throat approach, you know, unlike you.

In a world of rapists, murderers, robbers and all other types of sickness, you want to start by censoring the thing that only mimic real life?

Why not quit playing offensive games, grab a cardboard box and write with big letters "BE NICE" and go walk up and down the street. That's going to be more beneficial sorting this matter out than any censor ever will.

So how dare you want to play this game! how dare you!
really, you're talking about excluding people because they want a freaking switch. How about that? you want the option to do something. Should we then exclude people who want to be Paragon, or Renegade, because they want that option? And yes I know that is a comparable analogy.

Narrow minded yes, I'm glad you noticed! :P

Just like everyone else in this thread that is talking about a very 'narrow' part of this game.

Anyway, I see what they're doing with this franchise.  ME1 was made to drag the RPG crowd in and ME2 was made to drag the FPS crowd in (I know it's not FPS, but for argument's sake, you know what I mean) and join the RPG crowd who couldn't put it down since they enjoyed the first installment so much.  All of us will follow to ME3 where their intention will be to drag in the MMO crowd as well by making the third instalment a persistent world where you'll get your wish because they have to make that one accessible to all for it to bring the money in.

Good conspiracy theory; ain't it? And do you see what I've done there? Everybody happy! :D
