really, you're talking about excluding people because they want a freaking switch. How about that? you want the option to do something. Should we then exclude people who want to be Paragon, or Renegade, because they want that option? And yes I know that is a comparable analogy.

This argument is pointless. Bioware didn't include a swearing filter because they didn't want to. They are a company that obviously puts a lot of stock in their writing team and in creating realistic and natural individuals. They felt that censorship takes away from immersion and the connection you have with these characters, so they didn't include the option. Period.

I swear a lot...
I feel swearing in games are becoming a in thing slowly but surley its happening..
If there was a option for a filter that would be great maybe they say something different
I do admit the swearing gives a bit more insight to the characters feels as for me swearing is a expersion.

In a world of rapists, murderers, robbers and all other types of sickness, you want to start by censoring the thing that only mimic real life?
Why not quit playing offensive games, grab a cardboard box and write with big letters "BE NICE" and go walk up and down the street. That's going to be more beneficial sorting this matter out than any censor ever will.

The problem for me is this; Turning a blind eye to reality will not do anyone any good. Don't like blondes? Don't date them. Don't like swearing in a game? Don't play that game. Let BioWare make the game, if it offends you, it clearly wasn't the game for you.

I think what people find most offensive is that someone might come on here asking for a "naughty language" filter when the language used is very fitting in the situations it's found in. Couple that with the reality of the game world (with all its violence and darkly mature themes) and the idea that anyone would want to implement a language filter in light of the game's mature content is nigh-ridiculous. And that's why you have such harsh feedback.

But that's the point. I'm sure Bioware knows damn well that there is a certain segment of the population that would want this feature.
However, since this inclusion would detract from the immersion and writing they have put in to the game, they'll make you suffer through it. Art (including writing) isn't about compromise. It's about getting the feelings you want to get across, audience be damned.

uh huh...Blondes do have the option of dying their hair though. should a game not have the option to turn off it's swearing?Wintermist wrote...

See, easy. The problem is, having the game have the OPTION isn't a hard or difficult thing. It's not even like it hurts anyone except maybe you since you seem to be a bit...whatever. I personally don't want my game censored. But i don't mind having a little option in the options menu to turn a filter on or off.
Really what your saying is. "You are not allowed to play this game, with it's really great story and gameplay because you don't like a few words" does that make sense, at all? would "You are not allowed to enjoy this person, with it's really witty stories and fun personality, because of the color of their hair?" I may not like blondes, i may not find them attractive, but i sure as hell can sit with them and enjoy their company.

One can argue games are a trivial thing, but that's neither here nor there.
It's everywhere! That's the whole point you see. The 'profanity filter' request is doubly as trivial as a game should be in everyone's life and too much time and resources wasted on a really minor thing.
Anyway, it's obvious that we can argue till we're blue in the face, so (sincerely) could luck in your crusade!

Hell, I didn't even put forward that there should be one. I really don't care one way or the other, cause i'll have it set to off. But really your arguing that less people should have access, because of a "trivial" thing. well if it's so trivial then what's the point fighting against it?

And sorry for the rant, but I do have a serious problem with the world. People are of course free to do as they wish, and free to wish for what they want. I shall now pull out of this thread again.

I do appreciate that crusade is a loaded word and so, thank you for reminding me! Please don't be so sensitive, unless you're a fellow Greek christian; in which case I offer my apologies! I really don't know what you consider to be 'proper context', but sarcasm seemed good enough to me!
As to your question (why fight it?), I believe I've already offered an explanation in this thread: too much time and resources wasted on a minor thing when they can be creatively used on something else in the game.
Again, I appreciate that we disagree and ain't gonna find a common ground, but I've said my bit and now I'm just repeating myself.

Thanks for the intelligent reply. I guess it depends on Bioware's priorities. If artistic integrity is a high priority, then I can't argue with you. Conversely, if making an excellent game even more appealing to an even wider audience is a higher priority, a simple language filter option would be much appreciated by many.SurfaceBeneath wrote...

So am I really, on the repeating, just like a good argument, one of my faults. I guess we'll agree to disagree kinda thing. I still think it's not a bad idea. And you've certainly been better behaved than I have been, so got no reason to dislike ya. I'll see ya around then, who knows, I might argue on your side next time.
Course, knowing me you may not want that.
