There was a similar thread before ME2 was released right when Jack trailer came out. BW came and closed the thread as spam, with a short coment that such filter will not be implemented.

Personaly I don't care about bad language. At some points it fits very nicely. While there is a small problem: game rated as M, so owners of the game can hear all f words and such as much as they want. But lot sof times I have guests who come with their children (yeah im not a nice host if I can play games with my friend while our wifes and children play elsewhere) and we allways have to be on a lookout for coming children so that we will have time to take care of sound in case say Jack will start f-ing everthing. And it just annoying not only in ME2 but in other games.

I understand that we knew what we were buying and should not complain too much. Some games over my limits and I don't buy them, instead of asking developers to make a filter. Im rather making a general point to show that this is not a very simple metter of buy or dont.

on the children being around or comeing over topic, thers still VIOLENCE. and even if gore is off, its still you killing someone will a gun or, heaven forbid, a biotic power. not kid should be allowed the see the horrible horrible ways you can mangle a person with them

We are indeed strange. As the OP acknowledged, there's no logical reason why many perceive profanity as worse than violence and there's absolutely no defence for it - but it is still a fact that many do - hence the original request.

My 2 pennies is that it's probably down to the fact that we're desensitized by being barraged with the violence prevalant in 'mainstream' TV series and films. TV series like '24', 'Heroes', 'Lost', 'Terminator TSCC', 'CSI:All of them' etc. regularly feature violence and/or adult themes but without strong profanity (like the 'F' word), hence that's what we get acclimatized to.

That's harsh. I would not equate disliking swearing and requesting a filter for a game, the same as fanatics that kill hundreds or thousands, or millions of people because they aren't the right type of person.

It may be rated Mature, but some people still have grammar school sensibilities.  God help them if they ever have to walk down the street in a major metropolitan area, nevermind take a cab.

In other words:  I would not have a problem with an optional profanity filter as long as it was easily implemented and didn't take resources away from the development of ME3.  Otherwise, go play Super Mario.

Hee, after playing Dragon Age (obsessively) for the last few months, I'll admit that I found all the foul language a bit shocking myself.

Although, all of Joker's when we've got control of him is hilarious. "WHAT THE SH*T!?!"

Well the sound is bad because of the context. But I get where you're going, but you're being a bit fanatical about it. It also has to do with roots in what is proper and what is inproper. proper situations don't discuss scatological behaivor or sex.
I want us all to understand words aren't bad, it's context, but I'm not about to push people out who don't believe that.

I agree, this game is rated Mature.  I've not seen many mature people in this thread.  The OP did not ask for a ban on cursing in the game.  He did not assault the practice of swearing.  He wasn't even judgemental.  He ASKED for a filter.  Since then, he's been verbally assaulted by people who think he's trying to take away their freedom of speech. His post said nothing to that effect.  A filter would have been an OPTION that could change the game of those who WANTED it, not everyone.  Why the extreme reaction?  This request would have nothing to do with the people who are happy with the language.  Why proclaim your non-prudish superiority at the top of your lungs over and over?  If you play a mature game, one could also expect you to behave & post in a mature manner on a public forum.

If your offended by the language in ME2, too damn bad. Nowhere is there a law that says you can't be offended. They wanted cursing in the game so they put it there, and that is their right, and it is also their right to not filter it. If you don't like it, then be offended. No one really cares.

i was shocked at 1st and i think thats why it was in the game was for shock factor. to strike a point home. and as to ppl wanting more in the game. that would take away form the game, if it became saturated with F bombs and other such stuff. mind you too having a character that was like a bad ass and did swear a lot would be amusing some what. what would be interesting would be have the aliens swear in their languagei wish the aliens had more of their own dialect in the game instead of just english. and that Sheppard would say some in alien language too since cultures would become intergraded. and too a language filter would be nice which was stated here. seeing as they used to do those. but mind you too, the game is mature...so maybe not let our kids play it loll.

Excessive vulgarity for the sake of using vulgarity is silly. I found it to be a perfect mix in this MMO (Especially Aria's introduction). Really set the tone for Omega for me and I loved it.

If offensive language, directed between pixels offends you then you should heed the "15" age limit. In fairness the "F" word has lost most of its impact these days as swearing is so commonplace. I havn't really noticed it in ME so far. I'd prefer they swore "naturally" rather than how some people must assume they should.

Personally, I thought that the use of coarse language was refreshing. To me, this was essentially, an interactive war film and cursing in order to express frustration or while under pressure felt completely appropriate. With regards to Jack, she was a social miscreant that wanted to make people uncomfortable. What better way to purposefully offend than to use language that was purposefully chosen to be offensive?



That said, considering the cinematic tone of the game, I don't think that a 'bleep' option would be terribly inappropriate for those that really don't want to hear the swearing. I recall a certain prime-time drama that used 'bleeping' and I never felt that it interfered with the story. Of course, I would only want any filtering to be an option rather than something forced on those that want to enjoy the game's script as it was intended to be heard.
