I used Grunt and Jackob for shotguns and more health, but they always killed themselves running mindlessly.

They do not appear to be vulnerable to headshots or any other type of aimed shot besides the legs.

Drives me absolutely batty!
All I can say is pay real attention to your squadmates cause Garrus was doing the 6 sec rush of death on me earlier today at that very fight which would cause Grunt and me to die as well being swarmed by husks.
Hopefully your on pc so you can just call them to you rather then do ing the 360 pause and point thing individually for them!
BTW, I save the collectors ray gun for the final Praytorian of that combat. Though im a Adapt so Biotics my main attack for the begining rounds of the series of fights!

As for the OP I found it relatively easy to just shoot the scions in the face multiple times with my sniper rifle while using adrenaline rush to boost damage, having the visor helps too.

Have the squad in a good position, everything in the game seems to aim for you. Quadruply if you stay out of cover and kite.
I was annoyed because I had them take cover and was fighting exactly where the second wave lands. And the game does not checkpoint until the Praetorian.
The wave spawns are.
Scions, middle + Husks, side
Collectors, area where you walk in
Husks and Collectors, far side
Praetorian middle

The problem I am having on that level as we speak(On insanity as well) is trying to kill this god damned praetorean, the Cain heavy weapon only takes it down part way, and then I cant ever do enough damage with my AR to bring it's armor down after the barriers because it recharges them every time you bring them down. Extremely frustrating.

Praetorian, put the squad on the outside of the inside cover area, then kite it. They'll die eventually though. Run from cover to cover keeping it at least 10, ideally 15 meters away, spam Warp/Reave.
As a soldier, spam stick-head-out-of-cover-for-point.4-of-a-second. =/

I learned quickly that reave is very useful and taught it to my Shep.

What I do is take cover and fire the ray gun till he drops then stop shooting till he starts to rise again!
Disclaimer: as I said, I dont play insanity so dont know for sure the ray gun has enough juice for that difficulty

Oh also on the Pray, stop shooting him when he falls to ground as hes sheilded and Ive found no way to break that ground sheild! Your just wasting energy when hes down.

The particle beam definitely won't kill it on Insanity but it can take down the barriers pretty well. Switch to a normal weapon with AP ammo after the barrier goes down each time.

(Random note: vangaurds are awesome for killing husks. Can strip armor quickly and then 1 shot with Charge, which also gives you free shields and can be used to escape mobs)
As for the Praet, eh, if you can fight one of those straight up on insanity kudos, but like everyone is saying, kite it around some boxes for 30 minutes while your squad kills it and you get random potshots in. Boring but effective.

Swearing is inevitable when it does the slam 50 meters from your squad for a free barrier.
It's definately one of the harder fights on Insanity. The Collector Ship initial ambush fight being second.
Thus far. (6 loyalties left)

Playing on Insanity (obviously) as a Sentinel. Team: Miranda, Garrus. 0 medpacks when I enter the map (yeah, I know there's a couple on the side platform). Heavy weapon: Collector beam (no Cain yet).
Is there a trick to it? Maybe a nice position that I can hide in? I'm talking about the two Scions here.

The platform to your left offers a good view of the entire yard and has decent coverage. You can't stay there forever but it's a good starter spot. The time I cleared the yard I used my collector beam to burn one of the scions down, then kited the other one around with long range warps while running around husks and avoiding shockwaves.
It took a while and I used a number of medigels.

go to the left on that bridge thing in between the two buildings (that you cant get in) the scions attack cant get you so they have to walk up to you and by then at least one of them is usually dead, the only thing you have to worry about is the husks, well, that is what gave me a hard time.

The Scions aren't my chief concern - that is, I can outrun them. It's the Husks that get to me when I'm left alone, because the Scions off my squad pretty quickly (even when they're completely in cover... for some reason).
I thought that perhaps if I left my squad on that sheltered platform and started running around myself it could work, but then again, I wouldn't have any protection against the Husks.
That's a great tip though BigKahuna. I don't have a sniper rifle obviously, but this could work anyhow...

Key to beating Scions is to keep range from them and keep moving. Their shockwaves are easily dodged at a distance. As a Sentinel with Particle Beam I would recommend taking out the Husks first, since you really have no easy method of dropping a Scion quickly (Particle Beam sucks vs. armor). Kite the Husks around, use squad powers (Miranda's warp to take out their armor and Garrus' Concussive Shot to one-shot them when the armor is gone) in addition to your own. Shoot for their legs with rapid-fire, easily aimed weapons. Above all, keep moving and don't let them trap you in a corner or herd you near the Scions. Your squad may die, but that's OK, you can still win.
"keep moving" would be the clean way of playing that part.
Has anyone mentioned the possibility of first sending the teammates over to the central pillar to take out
the one Scion that appears there?
That's kind of cheating because it's.. well, video-gamish and not realistic that the guy doesn't retaliate
but it's still satisfying to have thought about it
Furthermore, there is one spot, closer than one thinks, better than the medi-pack area where you can
stand still and not even bother with cover, see the husks coming up to you, and take out the [remaining] Scion
brute. The shockwaves are absorbed by the rock.
After hours of trying the running around way, finding that out somehow reminded me a bit of Half-Life 2, the part
where we defend two hallways with 3 turrets.

How should I beat Husks plus Scions in the yard, as a soldier? Those husks are hard to kill even I got collector's assault rifle.

Right as the gate opens to this yard, you should be able to see the Scions' forms barely peaking out from behind the computer terminal's wall you have to activate. You can pull out a sniper rifle and start poking these two and possibly kill one of them before you technicaly trigger the battle.

Works perfectly, was easy.
I did this on my vanguard and infiltrator both
