Hi You can copy and past into your C:\\Users\\What ever you pc username is\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1 from your ME1 saved folder. I have been able to do this but I am not able to use any of my Sheperds. Have you had to totally completed the game before you can use one of your saved characters?
XP would be Documents and Settings Vista and 7 use Users

no prob rjas10, have you completed the whole game and that is why you can use your me1 sheperd? I have several shepards but only one has got to the kill Sovereign/Saren but has not done so yet. does this need to be done before the ME1 character can be used in ME2

Hasn't worked for me. I have complete save files but the utility that is supposed to copy them does nothing that I can see. I have made an me2 save to create the paths, and attempted to manually copy them to the proper folder (ME1) and that gets me no where either.
What size are your completed game save files? Maybe I don't have the right ones; they are from a couple years ago. I can't find my ME1 disk to reinstall the game either so I can't check if the files are correct. I've been trying to find a save game editor to confirm they are the right ones but haven't been able to find one.

The save files themselves aren't very big. About 140 KB. But I think the Configuration utility generates a couple other files you'll need, so I don't think just pasting the saves into the ME2 save folder will work.
Just to be clear, are you saying you've run the Configuration Utility and it doesn't work?

I have run the Config Utility and selected "Copy ME1 Save Games," This brings up the "Browse for folder" window and I am supposed to locate the Me1 save game directory, my save games are nowhere in these docs so i put the save games i wanted to transfer into a new folder on desktop, selected the folder and hit OK. The window dissappears and nothing else happens. I run the game and try to import my characters( which I gave completed the game with) and it goes straigt to the character select to import screen with nothing to choose. WTF WTF WTF. I WANT MY DATA TO TRANSFER!!!

Your ME1 Saved games are located in your "User" file tree; And NOT your Program Files. I had trouble recognizing this as well but once figure that out it should be easy to just let the config program use it.

Yes; the utility seems to do absolutely nothing for me. I know exactly where the files are, select the proper folder, etc, but seemingly nothing happens when I select the folder and click Okay. Should there be some confirmation that something was successful? Some box, or text, or anything? A progress bar.. something, anything to show that it worked? No files are created anywhere, nothing is copied.

I guess they appear when you open the load menu. Have you had to have completed the game before these saved games can be used in ME2?

I had that "problem" before
After you finished ME1 it generates a save file not named like the others
when you run the utility to transfer the save game into ME2 it doesn't say anything but it does copy it.
then you run ME2 and start a new game with ME save file and you can see your saved game.

I tried the config utility and my saves still won't show up. when I access my BioWare folder and click on Mass Effect 1 and select Saves all I get is "No items match your search", does anybody know how to fix this problem? I thought about trying to alter the game code, like I did to make my health regen faster, but I'm not that good at making alterations to game code. if anyone knows how to fix this please tell me.
