Not yet, but there will be in an upcoming update. For now all you can do is create a character with the same name and upload it to overwrite the existing character.

I can delete characters...I have a big fat delete character button? Or are we talking about in different areas?

They mean here on the social site, deleting them from your list of uploaded characters.

Wait you can actually know at the top left corner manage your characters and delete them

You can indeed delete characters on the site, they just added it. Go to your profile page, click manage characters up in the top left corner, then you can delete any of them you like.
