Zaeed useless?

Is the DLC mission that comes with him his Loyalty Mission?
Is he a Soldier class?
My main Shepard is a Soldier and it seems like Garrus is a Soldier too, even though he specializes in using the Sniper Rifle (which would have made infiltrator a better role wouldn't it?) I almost always take Garrus with me on assignment (bromance), so I wouldn't want to take ANOTHER Soldier since I am also that class.
Anyways, I was just wondering about him because his conversations are always one-sided. There is no interactivity to the dialog, You can't ask him questions, he just gives 'canned' replies when you attempt to engage him on the Normandy SR2.
Any thoughts?

I found him relatively useless and rather bland interaction between missions just as you said, since he just explains some of his past. Which I guess is kinda cool, but doesn't establish an emotional connection with the player like the others do.

His dialog does suck... however he's far from useless.
His loyalty missions gives you his grenade skill-- great AoE ability for Soldiers, as they have little naturally. Also, just because YOU'RE a soldier, and it makes him redundant for YOU, doesn't mean he's useless. He's great if you bring him along while you're playing Adept, Engineer, Infiltrator, or Sentinel.

However, He was good at what he does.

The paragon interupt punch to the head would be the only decent part to the Zaeed content.

I just realized reading this that I only take out squad mates who I find personally interesting, which is why I never take Zaeed. Probably he is pretty useful from a combat perspective, but the lack of interactive dialog makes him feel more like a tool than a member of the team.
Agreed. It's not that I hate him or think that he is useless, I wanted to see other peoples opinions on him since the poll numbers I saw were low and I have read many comments about how folks just didn't like him.
And him being a soldier is a bonus for people playing a class that could use a soldier as a squad member to increase their odds of survival.

His loyalty mission was so repulsive, I'm not even recruiting him on my second playthrough. Saw him in the spaceport and just kept walking.
Wanting to save civilians apparently makes -you- the ****. Way to go, Zaeed. Way to go. <_<

This character should have been developed just like the rest.but. The fact is Bioware couldn't be bothered to give us a well-developed character, and instead gave us this cheap thing.
I would've much prefered waiting for this character to come out with a backstory similar to the other characters. Even if he didn't have much impact on the story, allowing me to have a conversation would've been good enough.
