I enjoyed Zaed's stories. The fact that Shepard can't talk to him is a conscious decision on BioWare's part because he's DLC - implementing new NPCs like this requires little or no additional studio time from the Shepard voice actors, and makes additional NPCs easier, faster, and cheaper to implement. I think it is a good idea, because I want a lot of cheap DLC.
I almost never used him in my first play-through because I was a Soldier, but if I had been an Adept or Engineer he would have been a lot more useful, especially since you can get him so early in the game.
Zaeed useless?

Zaeed is awesome.
He also says a lot more, the more missions you bring him on.
My fav line was on mission he says the guy is 'probably chewing the walls by now' that made me laugh.

I wish you could slap a helmet on all of them. That's what I miss most from ME1. If I were ever to storm a fortified mercenary base, I think I'd insist my fellow combatants wore something other than, for example, a bright white catsuit with knee-high stiletto boots.
But yes, Zaeed is awesome. He's a mercenary, and he wants no part of of the Normandy cuddlefest. That's why he doesn't talk to you. If he wasn't getting paid, he wouldn't be there, and he's certainly not going to start discussing his daddy issues with you.

It's a shame with Zaeed because his character had a lot of potential as the bad ass mercenary. I thought it was awesome on his loyalty mission, when he said something along the lines of "Burn in hell ****" and unloaded his thermal clip, and burned that guy to death, and then caused an explosion.

I love the tough sonofa****. He's steady, his AI is good and he doesn't get ganked every time I turn around.
He compliments my infiltrator very nicely.

I actually rather enjoyed the mission he gives, full paragon option and he still became loyal, his war stories were interesting to listen to and some of his random bits of speech were entertaining. He is also as many have said one of the better combat companions to have, good AI and good skills

Great character IMO. He tells stories like an angry, drunken grandpa on steroids. I don't need to interact with him. I just sit and listen and what I like most is when he chastizes me for doing Paragon things or getting his opinion on the previous mission and the new recruit.
I was hoping that there'd be a story about those throwing knives that are sitting in there, though. It would have been cool if those had been selectible.

he has disruptor ammo. Does any other character have it?

In combat, he's a pretty good tank with a sensible AI running him.
I thought the non-interactive conversations with Zaeed were quite revealing: he seems to act like an uncle to Shepherd, telling war stories like they might be lessons to be learned from.
I got the feeling he might be a bit of a lonely old man glad to have someone to pass his stories to.

He can use AR/SR, gets a really nasty damage bonus from his class talent, and the inferno grenade isn't that bad. He's excellent in combat.

Zaeed is pretty cool, especially considering he is a free chracter and mission. If you dont even take him on missions, you can still do his loyalty mission which is like almost an hour long and can play out differently for a paragon or renegade.

Theres just something about his scarred up face and gruff voice that just screams "Hey you dip****, don't ****ing mess with me. I was blowing up space stations and putting holes in people's heads before you were a tadpole in your daddy's sack!"
And yeah, i like it.
But besides his loyalty mission he definitely takes a quiet backseat for the rest of the story. Which kind of bugs me, but still I like his character alot. One of the more real badasses that bioware has come up with yet,

Biggest badass on the crew. I like him a lot, even when I'm paragon. Makes grunt look like a shallow mindless sissy.

He is designed in a very incredible way . What i don't like is that you don't get the chance to interact with him too often ( On his loyalty mission i decided to save the people working there . I love being a hero not a ******* renegade )

I'm a 85% paragon and I loved Zaeed. The roar he gives off as he's firing madly at the ship in the paragon ending was chilling. He's great in gameplay as well. Level up his concussive shot and inferno grenade and he will annihilate the battlefield.
Not being able to talk to him was a bit weird though.

Another thing I like about him is that you don't need him to be loyal, not really. The grenades are very nice, but you can go totally paragon on his loyalty mission and (because he's an additional character) still have plenty of loyalty to get whatever outcome you want in the finale (from other squad members.) When he gets bent out of shape for "failing" his loyalty mission, you can just think "yeah, well, you shouldn't have lit the place on fire then, should you? It's your own fault; quit whining, you big scarred-up baby."

I actually liked him. And he is a paid merc, so other than telling you some of his stories, he doesn't have to emotionally relate to the character. I like him the way he is. Gameplay wise, I didn't think he was useless, but I was an adept. You can make him loyal very soon thus acquire a useful ability and he is generally badass. I prefer him over say Jacob to be honest.

Zaeed is a beast if you play adept. Probably the best damage-dealing squadmate. His sniper accuracy is amazing, too.

So far he's my favorite. Big damage bonuses and a good fire-grenade skill for taking down armor. Concussion blast does a good amount of damage, and scatters enemies for a couple of seconds. Doesn't die all the time like some teammates.

I'd rather cough-up $10 and have a fully-fleshed-out character with interactive dialogue between him and Shepard, than the underwhelming character we got for free. But I'm paying for the story of ME and ME2...not necessarily the gameplay. (It's nice that that's fun too though. ... Yes, I played Dreamfall. Horribly flawed gameplay. Pretty decent story though.)
