does anybody have a strategy to get by the ogre in the beacon tower. This thing is too brutal. I have tried running around with Scraps while my PC blinks away with a bow, but in the end that SOB lands enough blows and the bow does so little that I am here asking for some tactiful advice.
A little friggin early. How do I..(spoiler)

Scraps being the dog I assume? To be honest, the bow is rather underpowered especially at low levels. I am finding that melee is definitely the faster way to go in most encounters. Ranged is more a mage game. Even with the bard girl maxed in archery tree with a good bow she is more utility then raw dps.
Tactical advice would be start ranged, use your skills then close to melee and hit from behind. If you have sneak/backstab bomus it will help a lot. Also did you talk and get the help of the mage out front? he makes it a whole lot easier.

Yes, I have the mage and have been letting him do his thing with arcane bolt, not much. Allister or my warrior get wasted quick if I try to trade with that thing. Straight melee if I get him down half way that is good. With dog and bow I can get him to about 80% dust.

melee is the way to go. I had myself (warrior sword and board), the other warden who is also sword and board, the dog, and the mage. At that stage I couldn't ditch the other warden who kind of overlaps with my role at that point. But you need all the help you can get.
Strategy? It's a boss fight so don't be afraid to chain chug pots. You won't have any healing spells at that point (unless you are a mage possibly), so use your pots before your health gets too low, or you will fall behind. Let your warriors go toe to toe with him, the dog is a little weaker, and harder to get healing stuff for him, but hopefully you have some. If he goes after a mage or archer run.
One thing I missed earlier (although I don't think the codex updates until after you win the battle), in the codex entry it says you can interrupt him when he grabs a hold of a character. So save your crowd control abilities for when he does this. Shield bash is always resisted, but pummel sometimes works. You may have others as well.

I had PC (warrior) tanking him with Threaten and Shield Defense, Alistair and Dog attacking from back using abilities whenever available, mage casting flame weapon and firing with staff, etc. i had to use half a dozen or more health pots, ate elfroot, everything i could find. he chased my mage at one point so i was chasing him with my melee. got him on second attempt (normal setting).
