I was frustrated by the excessively long load times in between areas, especially the different floors of the Normandy. I have a decent, optimized rig and was curious to see if there was a way to fix this. I can't claim ownership of this FIX but it definitly worked for me. First thing I should say is that it is for DUAL CORE processor systems.
- Defrage your hard drive (of course)
- Start the game
- At main screen, ALT+TAB back to the desktop
- CTL+ALT+DEL to get to the task bar
- Click on the "Processes" tab
- Find the Mass Effect EXE process (should be the one using the most memory)
- Right click on it and choose "Set Affinity"
- Untick your second processor (will be "processor 1")
- Click OK
- Repeat steps 6 through 7
- Enable both processors
- ALT+TAB back into the game
Your loading screens should be significantly reduced. In fact, most of the Normandy levels load immediately for me after this "fix". I would only assume that there is an issue with how the game handles load balancing across the two logical processors and this little trick "resets" it.
I am running Windows 7 x64, with a Core2Duo processor. Hope this helps some folks!
