The first few sets were nice, especially the character. But will they remain free? Or will we have to start paying for content? I hope they continue giving us content for free, though a massive expansion quest aptly priced would be worth it if the value would tempt them into making it...

I seem to remember way back when ME1 was just out, Bioware saying that their intention was to continually provide free DLC to make the galaxy bigger and bigger. Well, that fell apart, since we only got one free DLC that took place in the Local Cluster, then a priced DLC after EA got their fingers in. Now the preorder "bonuses" for ME2 were given away as free DLC to everyone, which I'm fully in support of as it makes no sense to punish those that are paying just as much, if only a little later.

My guess is that EA will have a strong presence in the DLC's to follow, in that they'll never be free, but they'll cost Bioware Points and come with something like a bonus set of armour, or a brand new weapon, or extra skill points. The missions themselves won't sell the DLC, the bonus items will, kind of like the storage chest and set of armour in the Dragon Age DLC you get from the Quest Man in your camp.

I realize I'm sounding cynical, but really, it's only because I still love Bioware, but EA has long since lost my trust, and I was incredibly depressed when I heard that they were to be involved in the PC release of ME1 (the Xbox version of which remains one of my favourite games of all time). ME2 bears little resemblance to ME1 and plays more like KOTOR meets Gears of War than anything else. I doubt this was Bioware's vision when they first planned to make a trilogy. If so, then it's a shame, but there's still hope for free DLC and ME3. If not, then it's likely that EA has taken the wheel and the DLC will not be free and ME3 will be a Halo clone, or will mimic some other mainstream game.

Oh come on now EA is not respsonible for everything you do not like in the game. Well I guess since BioWare is EA then they are but I don't think that any changes made were ordered from Redwood Shores. BioWare listened to the critricism that was made about ME1 and tried to improve or change those elements. If they were successful or not is a matter of personal opinion.

You are not remembering it corrrectly. They did indeed say they were going to release many DLC items for ME1 that didn't actually occur but the word "free" was never attached to it.

Anyway, given the trend of other game companies when it comes to DLC I would say expect to pay for any that may be released. The items from the Cerberus network were there as an incentive to buy the game -- much like the free inclusion of BDtS was for the PC version of ME1. I personally don't think that there will be much in the way of free content.

They better release free DLC, considering Cerberus network costs 15 dollars for used buyers. I don't think anyone's going to pay 15 dollars for Zaeed and the normandy crash sight alone, and of course, the right to buy DLC packs for another 10 dollars each.

Considering the Cerberus Network admission is priced at 1200 MS points on Xbox if you don't get the card with the game then I'll assume we will get a proportionate amount of DLC free, then later on DLC will be P2P

Well that is the thing. BioWare and every other game company makes zero profit in the used game trade. This way they still make a little money, can't blame them really. As much as the two doctors appear to be very nice people and (mostImage IPB) of those who add to the public face of BioWare appear to be as well but they are running a business and along with trying to provide the player with hours of entertainment they also want to make money doing so.

And yes based on some of the items that I have seen for sale on the 360 marketplace there are people who will spend that amount for Zaeed and the Normandy crash site alone. Buy the game new (which used is generally about 5$-10$ less then retail) and you get the free access. BioWare profits, you get the content "free", everyone in the arrangement is happy.

I'm not against charging money for DLC. I'm against releasing a single one or two hour mission, a new item or power, then charging $10 for it when you can buy a whole new game for $50 and get tons of items, powers and many hours of gameplay. It just seems disproportionate. You can run the company for the purpose of making money and still not try to squeeze your customers. Then again, maybe I'm paranoid. Also, I just love free stuff, there I said it.

I expect small stuff will be free.

Maybe the upcoming hover tank will be.

But the big mission packs, Bring Down the Sky style, won't.

 Yeah, pretty much.

-They ruined Spore.
-DRM
-Pay-to-Play DLC

On another note, I'm hoping that we'll see some free missions and such for people who chose to continue their games.

After blowing up the collecter base Cereberus certainly isn't giving anything to me free.

To a point. There is a thread somewhere that says something along those lines. Some stuff will be free but the farther out you get and the more detailed the content, the more likely it is that it will cost extra.

What DLC was that? Bring Down The Sky was in the Exodus Cluster, and it wasn't free. At least, not initially.

OK, maybe my memory isn't what it used to be. For some reason I thought X-57, or whatever it's called, was headed for Earth

Eh, the items would probably be free. Maybe small quest chains. Anything big that requires a fair amount of effort would probably require money.
