A while back one of the Bioware devs for DAO mentioned that empty praise while perhaps more enjoyable to read isn't really any more helpful than empty criticism of the game.  So I figured I'd start a topic with some of things I really like about ME2.  I know that initially after a game's launch the forum becomes flooded with mostly irrelevant criticisms; although some of the complaints may be valid it’s hard to wade through it all right now.

Allow me to say that I am very much enjoying ME2, and while there are certainly some aspects of gameplay that I don't like at all,  a few moments that I would love to have been done differently, (and one feature that just bugs the crap out of me) , the game IMO is pretty spectacular.

So, in hopes of being specific of what I (and others) are enjoying here are a few things that bring out the wow factor.  (Trying to avoid spoilers being in this forum and all.)

The *small* moments are exceptionally well done.  The character interactions, like the drink with a crew member speaking of old times, or the cinematic for some of the more intimate conversations. The personal quests are something I’ve really enjoyed (so far, only finished 4 of the loyalty quests) The insight we get into the team members really help support the game. The best example of how this affected my game : that character reveal for subzero a while back actually left me pretty repulsed by her character, but her history and quest really evoked some sympathy for her. Well done.
Also the email system is a surprisingly effective way to communicate story carryover from the first game. I realize this is a pretty small game mechanic and doesn’t quite have the same emotional impact of seeing an ME1 character in the game, but little emails from folks I may have helped or harmed in the first game (or in this game as well) really makes the game feel more alive.
(On a side note if any company known for shooters had released this game I would have likely had unqualified praise. One of the biggest reasons I don’t play shooters is I don’t like the lack of choice and the story generally gives me no reason to want to continue. Even Half-Life2 I couldn’t bring myself to finish, as I didn’t feel like I had any impact on that story. I simply get tired of blasting away through every level.   Those games mean nothing to me and make me think more of playing through Mega Man or Super Mario brothers. I certainly didn’t really care about saving Peach . So supporting the gameplay with a great story that I feel a part of is what really pulls me into a game. So I have no issue with Bioware wanting to open up a new genre, and as long as the great character interaction and story are the focus, it makes the combat more intense and fun. Heh, although to quote one forum poster over on the DA forums I’d probably like DAO or ME2 even if the combat was decided via games of hangman.)

So once again thanks Bioware for another excellent game.
