Whenever I launch Mass Effect 2 my computer
starts to make a noise but when I launch other
games such as MW2 or L4D2 they don't make any noise. And it only makes
the noise on the main menu screen and in some parts of a level. Does
anyone else have this problem?

It sounds like it's dialing like a phone but only on the main menu screen and some parts of the game.

Now when I play MW2 and L4D2 whenever there is some sort of light in the game my card starts to make the same sound. I'm going to reinstall the drivers again and switch the cards to see if that helps, I'll get back and let you know if it worked.

Noise generated by electrical coils or transformers used in power supplies, motherboards, video cards or LCD monitors.

I have it too, it is common. It is probabaly caused by graphics card.

It still makes the dialing sound after I reinstalled the drivers and switched the video cards around. I even cleaned out my whole computer of dirt and dust including the video card fans but to no avail. It looks like this is more of a video card/computer problem then a Mass Effect 2 issue so I'm gonna go and look around the internet for something.

It is either coil noise or Reapers are trying to hack your brain.

Coils? Sry I'm some what not smart when it comes to the more advance components of computers. Can you explain in a little more detail, that would be helpful to me in this case. Thank you

That is some electronic **** (coil, pwm circuit, capacitor) usually on graphics card or psu which is generating sound under load (playing game). I have it too, it is common.

Try underclocking yours graphics card, if its an ATI card its easy, if its N-Vidia, i dont know (dont underclock too much though, then ME2 may not even run :P)

I tried underclocking my GTX 275 but it didn't work. It's a shame because it's so quiet in my room when I play games but then I started to hear that noise and it kills the mood.

If the noise is from your speakers then the soundchip is probably picking up electronic noise from inside the computer case. This is fairly common. You want to mute the microphone input and possibly mute the line/auxillary input. Go to the sound control panel for your soundcard/soundchip or use the Windows mixer and just mute all inputs EXCEPT the "wave" and "play control". The "play control" may be absent, so mute everything except the "wave" source. Remember you did this so if you want to use your mic or use the line-in, for example, then you can go back and un-mute them.

If the sound is not from your speakers, if it is from something inside the computer case, then you have some failing hardware.

It isn't the speakers, I have them unplugged and turned off to hear the noise more clearly .

Alright so I took out both 275's and installed a 9800GT and tried out the game, and it didn't make the noise the other cards did. So next I put in one GTX 275 and launched the game, the sound came back. So I thought it was just this one card, I tried my other GTX 275, but it also makes the same sound. So could it be either that both cards were somehow damaged? I don't know what to do next.

This should hopefully be my last post on this topic. I installed an older set of display drivers after talking to a NVIDIA tech support person and the problem still comes. So I can say with confidence that it is indeed both of my GTX 275's that are the source or the problem and nothing else in my computer after spending over an hour testing it. Thank you everyone for your help, now I just have to wait a month or two until NVIDIA releases their new fermi line of cards...or get an ATI card SIKE!!!
