I am a couple hours into the game, and I keep periodically seeing at least two different help messages. One says something like "Press RB to use special ammo" and the other says "Press RB to heal squad", or something like that.

I understand if this would happen during the tutorial level, but to have it keep coming up over and over and over again is not only an insult to my intelligence, but a completely unnecessary distraction! It really makes it seem like it's trying to cater to a slightly less-inept audience, but at the VERY least, there should be an option to disable said messages if they become annoying.

Someone, please tell me that these can be turned off. For reference, I am running Mass Effect 2 on my xbox 360.

In an un-related note, it would be nice if selecting an ammo power again after it was already activated would be disable it. It wouldn't serve a functional purpose, but from a cosmetic sense, it would be nice to turn off those stupid holograms floating all over my gun when I didn't want them on. Instead, they stay on until the next mission, as far as I can tell. Don't get me wrong, they're cool, but I really think you should be able to turn them off.

Other than that, great game. The pop-up help messages are really, really aggravating though. They make me feel like I'm playing on easy mode. Why on the green earth would they continue to pop up throughout the entire duration of the game, especially on veteran difficulty??? I really hope someone can tell me how to turn these things off...

ya i'm getting a little tired of the tutorial popups too. It keeps telling me to press RT to launch probe or the ammo and unity like you say. Unfortunately i have no solution. I tried looking in options for "disable tutorial msgs" or something like that and found nothing. Would be nice to see an option for this.

I would *love* a way to disable these. Worst offender is "Press B to end the mission" which will stay on screen and cover the freaking dialog wheel if I want to talk to someone. Very dumb.

Or at the very least, stick these in the upper left or somewhere out of the way.

Exactly man, that's what I'm saying. PC users have the greatest chance because someone out there might be talented enough to code an unofficial patch for the game that fixes "minor" issues like this one, but 360 users are stuck hoping for an official patch to come down the line from Bioware.

I really hope this does see a patch.. I mean, there is absolutely no reason it should repeat over, and over, and over, and OVER again.. Doesn't programmer give the gamer the benefit of the doubt that they will learn after the 250'th time they've seen a help message? Furthermore, if there are gamers who require CONSTANT reminders, should this not be an option to toggle so that the majority of the audience (the ones who can actually learn) aren't annoyed by them? Seriously, how hard would've a "Toggle help messages On/Off" option be? The options menu looks nearly identical to Mass Effect 1..

I'm sick of seeing those messages as well. I thought it was just a disc 1 thing, but I'm on disc 2 and its annoying the hell out of me. Yes, I know how to launch a probe. Yes, I know how to use Unity. Yes, I know how to end a completed mission. Yes, I know how to locate an N7 mission. Stop reminding me! It's like the Microsoft paperclip of video games.

Woah, that sounds bad.. I haven't even seen the "Press B to end the mission" message yet.. That really blows, I hope Bioware patches this so we can turn these things off.. It makes me feel like I'm playing a game meant for a 10 year old.

It shows up most of the time after you recruit someone - the purpose being that in case you forgot to hack a safe in the room or grab a gun upgrade or something, you now have a chance to do that before it kicks you back to the Normandy automatically.

It will disappear after a few seconds when the dialog wheel comes up (I think it sort of realizes "Oh, yeah, you might want to see that"), but then it comes right back after you pick something.  It covers ALL subtitles though.

I found the one for recruiting Samara pretty bad though because there are quite a few people around that have some unique dialog if you want to talk to them.  Very dumb.

What has bioware done to address this? Out of all the issues that ME2 have (which are personally, few and far between), this one is definitely the most glaring. It just ruins the experiencing having stupid dialog boxes everywhere.

Actually, the end mission message will go away, and then pop up again, and again and again if you ignore it. And as was said earlier, it is right over the dialog wheel. This shows a total lack of thought. And in almost every mission where it comes up, if you just go to an exit door it will have an option to end the mission. Please Bioware, let us turn the nag tag off! Most people don't need constant reminders, if they haven't done something, there is probably a good tactical reason for it.

Someone should start an "official" thread for this in the hopes to garner more attention.. I guess I could, or maybe this one is good enough?

Just because BW doesn't give any response doesn't mean they're not aware of this thread.

And yes, the tutorials are annoying. I hate any sort of tutorials (levels, areas, mesages..), i just want a manual and the game.

Just one more thing they seemed to have dropped the ball on. I'm not talking big things like corrupted saves or anything, but the little details. These signs, the stuttering video (at least for me, it stuttered when the SR2 was flying around in the second to last cutscene), the lack of a dead zone on the controller, etc.

Oh well, other than a few small issues, this is a great game, and my guess is they'll patch it as soon as MS approves the patch.

yeah the launch probe popup is getting a bit old. It'd be one thing if it were on a massive spike of resources or a N7 mission but that's not the case.

I don't see any of these pop-ups on Insanity, though my wife still gets them in her Casual playthrough, and she's 3/4 of the way through. Probably won't get them on Veteran or Hardcore either I'd imagine, but I don't know for sure as I've only played Insanity.

Edit: That's a lie, I played Normal at one point for about 20 minutes, and I saw them there too, I think.

I think I might have figured it out! The "help" pop-ups were bugging the crap out of me too, so I went into the gameplay menu and the game to insanity. When I returned to the game, I found that the pop-ups were no more. So I saved the game while on insanity, then exited the game, reloaded the game and returned the game to a comfortable difficulty and the pop-ups remained gone. Hope this helps you guys.

Really? If this is a true fix, that would be great. So you're saying that you temporarily changed the difficulty of your current playthough to insanity, saved, exited, re-loaded, and changed back to a lower difficulty and the pop-ups did not come back?

If that really works, then that will have fixed my most nagging issue with the game. Heck, if I have to play on insanity for it to work then so be it. But what I'm wondering is, why in the world couldn't someone from Bioware comment on how to do this so we aren't left in the dark trying to figure it out for ourselves? I know this issue has surfaced on other forums and probably multiple times on this one, but I've never seen any official replies on the subject.

I don't think that works. I've been playing on Insanity and I still get the popups all the time.

It's too bad that they even come up on insanity.. Ugh.. if I had known about this before I bought the game, I probably wouldn't have bought it, and I'm not joking. I stopped playing Fear 2 because it was too easy. Then, it got patched and I started playing it again. I have a feeling that the same thing is going to happen with ME2. That is if I don't sell it first.

I'm glad it's not just me who found this annoying, patronising and immersion breaking. I really hope it is patched out.
