Not to mention WoW's influence ruined a bunch of other awesome MMO's because they wanted to be more like Wow.

Yeah no kidding. Probably ruined some innovation and made people take "safer" routes since it was what WoW did in their game.

i kinda hope they do make an ME MMO, i think a lot of things could work and be a lot of fun, but i think there could also be a lot of other things that just wouldn't
so i'm hoping they see everything that works with KoToR online, and they maybe consider the possibility of one. Heres to hoping we hear something, either a "No freakin chance", "We're thinking about it, and we'll see", to "Hell Yea!" *raises mug of Rinkaul*

That would have Bioware competing against itself.
Not going to happen.

Frank Gibeau, head honcho at EA has already confirmed that the ME franchise will carry on after the Shepard trilogy. I'd be surprised to see a new series of single player RPGs with a new hero, so an MMO seems like the logical choice...

Because MMO's ruin franchises. There is no fun in MMOs... just grinding.
The machine that is Mass Effect is the story and there is NO story in an MMO... no matter how hard developers try to implement one. So, no. Please no MEMMO.

Can't wait 'til SW:TOR comes out and proves this statement well and truly false. The lead writer is the guy that gave Mass Effect it's story, so I've got faith that he can do it in SW:TOR as well...

Funny, there were similar statements made with FF11 having the same acclaimed "writers" as FF7 and how that would have a story, also Blizzard made the statement that WoW would be a "dynamic ever evolving universe" or something similar yet it remains a complete rip of EQ2 (which was out mere months before WoW) both sporting an exact match in UI and battle mechanics...
Also don't put much stock into a Star Wars MMO... especially since there was once a failed SWMMO...
You see the thing is... MMO's have a history of either being huge successes or massive failures that drain the parent and underwriting studios of precious resources and time, basically leaving behind nothing but a burn pile of ashes. If you would like to see BioWare crash and burn by producing MMO after MMO then that is your perogative, but frankly I would rather see every fat MMO player die of massive heart failure. That's my perogative.

World of Warcraft is attempting to solve the issue at least partially with Cataclysm changing formerly lowbie zones into high-level, Final Fantasy XI attempted to counter the issues (Fairly successfully, but FFXI never had a huge client base so the results are isolated and biased) with a system that allowed higher-level characters to scale down themselves and their equipment immedietly to a target party member. But more often than not, this just shifts the problem. In World Of Warcrafts case, it's likely an equal number of zones will become useless territory while everyone focuses on the new content, and in FFXI, the Level-Syncing system lead to gross exploitating by finding and isolating specificly powerful camping locations, and spamming them into the dirt until the servers crash. Both are valiant attempts, and I think if there was an effective solution, it would be a combination of both. This has to be an issue discussed at large by a team making a Mass Effect MMO. Luckily a new solution may be on the Horizon, though I won't know until I get hands-on with the Beta later this month. I'll save reflections on if it's a good deviation from class-Level characters until then.
The simple fact of the matter is Too many MMO's attempt to emulate World of Warcraft, and are blinded by the money that game is making, to see that WoW and all current MMO's are incredibly flawed and fairly stale (Only the social aspect keeps the game going so long, the mechanics dry out around the 3rd year, from then it becomes a question of how much redundancy you can tolerate). Mass Effect Hypothetical MMO CANNOT be an ME Skinned WoW Clone. It needs to provide a completely new experience, MMO makers need to evolve past the current state, a situation I feel Bioware will become PAINFULLY aware of when The Old Republic debuts. (Seriously, WoW in space and spoken dialog is all I've seen so far, even the same Cartoony, stupid blocky art style 7 years later, awesome).
I have many other thoughts on the subject of MMO's and what a Mass Effect (Or any really) Themed MMO has to do to really topple the giant World Of Warcraft finally, but I don't think you want to read a 92 page Interactive Arts thesis. so I'll sume it up.
If You're not Blizzard, Stop making World of Warcraft G O D D A M M I T!!!

Never been a final fantasy fan, so I can't legitimately comment on that one. The WoW UI has absolutely nothing to do with the universe, and I believe the WoW expansions have added pretty sizeable new areas to the game, new races, new classes. I'd call that a pretty significant addition to the universe.

I know all about the problems with Star Wars Galaxies, and it has absolutely no bearing on SW:TOR - completely different studio. Galaxies was the perfect example of how not to handle an MMO. Just think how many cruddy Batman games there have been. guess because they all sucked we'll never see a good Batman game, eh? Oh, wait - Arkham Asylum already shattered that myth.

Bioware now have the financial clout of EA behind them. They're not going anywhere anytime soon. If an ME MMO got made, would it really be that disastrous for you? Could you not just choose not to play it and avoid all the problems you associate with MMOs? Or are you the sort who feels that if it has the Mass Effect logo on it then you HAVE to buy it?
And that last part... Really? What about skinny MMO players, are we allowed to live? I truly pity anyone who ever has to interact with you on a face to face basis. Wishing death on someone because they like something that you don't... Not really much more needs be said...

So let me break it down to you in another way.
1) I did not wish death upon anyone. I said I would rather see something happen than see something else happen. Simple as that. Don't read too much into that. There are a lot of people that do deserve to die, fat people included but not for the reason of obesity.
2) Stating that you are sad for the people who interact with me, face-to-face, on a daily basis is insulting. Why state something like that when you are trying (and failing) to take the moral high-ground? Most of the people I see on a daily basis are good friends and in the military.
3) You know nothing about me, don't assume to know me because my opinion differs from yours. Obviously you enjoy grinding away your days for that next insignificant level, waiting 15 minutes to 3 hours to form a party for a tough "mob" or "raid boss" only to have hours wasted because some ****s joined you and something went terribly wrong and now you have to wait days to retry the same dang thing over-and-over again. But me... no I enjoy my franchises limited to 1-16 player interactions.
4) Notice I didn't insult you once. So don't be "that" guy. Oh, wait... too late.

Now if they made a good multiplayer where you and some friends, each playing a different character, start off with the normal begining weapons, armor and powers and over time aquire new weapons, armor and powers and develop them similar to the ME storyline, go out and complete missions where each player outfits their character and uses weapons and powers as they see fit. Basically your "human" squad vs the computer. For competition then you can get a team of people to play the role of lets say the Blue Suns and the other team Shepard and his squad and battle it out on any given mission, last team standing wins. Over time you can develop every single character in ME to use in various online game play. Now that sounds like some fun.

Hmm, the only IP I recall saying anything about approving of an MMO for was Mass Effect. I also never said anything about a moral high-ground. Your post made multiple points, so I addressed each one individually. I'm not sure where you got me taking the moral high-ground from that.
Your comment about MMO players and heart failure was very easy to draw inferences from. I'm sure I'm not the only one who did, perhaps a less inflammatory example of preferable circumstances might be worth considering?
As for my feelings about people who deal with face to face, I expressed an opinion. From time to time, one person's opinion will insult another person. I'm insulted by the idea that an ME MMO should never be made, just because some people don't like MMOs. Like I said, if you don't like it, don't play it, but that shouldn't stop those who would gain enjoyment from it from doing so.
I never claimed to know you, and here you are making supposedly "obvious" assumptions about my gaming habits, based solely on the fact that I'd like to see an ME MMO. Personally, my favourite aspect of MMOs was the PvP when implemented well. As for raid groups, never played much of them, but I found guilds to be incredibly handy for organising them.
As sad before, conventions are broken all the time, one MMO will eventually come along that figuratively re-invents the wheel. Bioware already broke the cycle of shoddy Star Wars games, who's to say they can't do it with MMOs.../

I see your point, but you basically said you'd prefer a company to survive over the lives of millions of people around the world, even if they die painfully. That's Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain stuff right there. Real people don't think like that, do they? The fact that you preferred "massive heart failure" gives the statement a theme of justice, as though they are just getting the result of their choices, whether you intended it that way or not. The whole statement puts a dark stain on your otherwise reasonable point. It's your prerogative, of course, but I think your argument would be more convincing if you didn't express preferences that are actually worse than Bioware crashing and burning making MMO after MMO (is there a third one I don't know about?)
@Deflagratio
Excellent observations. One thing that's sad about MMOs, even the entertainment industry and the market in general is that 'what sells sells' and people genuinely believe they want what is popular, just because its popular, and production companies buy into that as well, and end up helping to self-fulfill the prophecy. It would take more than just game quality to make a successful AAA MMOshooter-rpg. It'd have to be a bit of a movement, and it'd have to have real faith from EA behind it. The last part seems least likely.

I agree! I have played WoW and it is as perfect as you can get with a traditional MMO. Maybe there should be some sort of lobby or outside world where there is no combat where you can run around, chat with people, get from place to place, and other things. Then there should be combat sections where you go on missions for NPC characters and take a group of real world players with you as your squad.
Even then, there would be no traditional Bioware designed story line where the world around you changes depending on your choices. It would be hard to design a game like this. Bioware would have to balance the RPG, Combat, AND multiplayer aspects of the game.
It would be hard but if Bioware can pull off some sort of Mass Effect Multiplayer Game and pull it off good, I would look forward to it very much.
As far as EA goes... I still don't mind Bioware being part of EA, only because EA has some support of Macs. Any game like this that comes out will come out most likely for computers and if its going to come out it better come out for Mac, too.
