IGN has a short preview and nice little video clip on one of the new party members - an apostate mage called Anders:
http://pc.ign.com/ar.../1065425p1.html

Anders?! That's the lamest (Swedish) name I have ever heard. There's tons of cool names at 20000-names.com and Anders is picked?!
Can I kick him off my future team for having a name like that, or is that discrimination?

You cannot expect them to take into account each and every language....."anders" means "different" in my language (Dutch) and it isn't a name at all, just a word....but I can live with that  Image IPB

it's also a ''last name'' , probably still derrived from swedish though, still like it...fits him well

Anders is a common name in the nordic languages. In Norway it was the most popular name given to boys in the 1980ies.

I hope rest of the characters look less generic than Anders as for me bland is not okay. On an unrelated note I'm gonna guess the other four unannounced characters as: Oghren, male human dual-wielding rogue, elf female mage and an human female warrior.

*kind of a spoiler*

I think that Anders' face looks a bit like Wynne. Especially the eyes. I hope he is Wynne's son who she gave up to the templars. Maybe he escaped after he found out that he had magic as well?

The IGN gave his background and he isn't. He spent allot of his life free, getting caught for having magic much later. The BIG part of his character is the fact he spent allot of time outside the tower and knows what he's missing. Thats why he just wants to P A R T Y baby!

Kill someone and says "wasn't me", and put that in the trailer? Wow. That's some hilarious stuff bioware, I bet your 5 year old fans are laughing their asses off on that one!

And to think how many times devs said "dark fantasy" in the interviews..

Hopefully Rimmer..... I mean Anders will get a moment of awesome similar to how Rimmer kneed death in the happy sack >_>
I'm more shocked baout the female warrior though.... I mean I never fought that I would see the day!

Know all she needs is an addiction to booze, a swearing temperment, violent mannerisms, a two handed weapon and a noble lineage and the rest of those pesky gender stereotypes will be obliterated!!!

Riiight. Because it's impossible to have a very dark and serious story while also having some lighter moments or some humor.

Someone needs to ring up Shakespeare and tell him someone on the internet thinks he completely had the wrong idea. Image IPB

don't listen to them, David. I love the new character, Anders. and I laughed at the "I didn't do it" part. I'm sure we'll love to travel with him.

The old guy sitting in the row behind mine on the train, says that there is no good literature written in english language, just as there has been no important theatrical work written in the english language. He says, that people will of course go and talk about Shakespear, but that if you seriously looked at Shakespear's work, you'd see that he really is overrated.
That's what I heard on the train anyway. Take it for what it is ;)

his sarcastic attitude appears similar to Allistar...

laziness I don't think so.. Bioware are too smart to do something that lazy...allistars lost older half brother perhaps?

I do still miss Jowan though. I was kinda disapointed this guy hates blood mages. Though in a way that is good because Jowan is still the token sympathetic blood mage

I don't think Anders fits. At all. Then again, I'm a swede.

It'd be like calling Loghain for Bob. Kinda' . I'll just have to deal with it, I s'pose.

You misunderstood me completely. I am totally for humor, even in dark fantasy settings, and I lol'd IRL at some humorous instances in DA:O.

However there are many sorts of humor (I can't believe I'm telling YOU this), and the "*kill* - oops, wasn't me" type of humor that appeals to pre-schoolers just doesn't fit here, at least in my opinion.

Well anders 1st meeting with me will likely be his last. I can't stand the arrogant rebel type.

He doesn't have Alistair's goody goody attitude though.

I see. Well, if it makes you feel better those two scenes -- him killing something and then him saying the line -- are not connected in the game. As usual, the cutscene folks are working some of their magic (probably because showing the actual context for the line would be a spoiler).

Are we to take this as a tacit admission that we won't be getting jokes about maidenheads and naked weapons, then? :(

They were good enough for The Bard!

It does make me feel better. That guy is still getting murdered on the spot though. :innocent:
