Escort guy can be anyone that is loyal, it is the easiest job to fill.

At least that is what I am seeing since I have seen so many different choices.

From what I've seen whoever you send as escort will survive. Some folks are just sending whoever they don't want to risk dying back as escort.

Mordin seems to die easily in the second group while your squad is fighting the reaper so I think you better send him to escort the crew.

Who did you choose to lead the second team?

Tech Expert: Tali or Legion.
First team leader: Garrus, Miranda, or Jacob.
Biotic: Samara.
Second team Leader: Garrus, Miranda, or Jacob.
Escort: Anyone, really. I used Mordin. Others say Grunt or Garrus. Don't think anyone's sent an escort and had them die yet.

My first try:

Expert: Legion
Fire Team leader 1: Garrus
Biotic: Samara
Fire Team leader 2: Miranda
Escort: Zaeed
Boss squad: Garrus and Grunt

-> Mordin died

Second try:

Expert: Legion
Fire Team Leader 1 and 2: Garrus
Biotic: Samara
Escort: Mordin
Boss squad: Grunt and Thane

-> No one died

Everyone was loyal.

Yeah, my first try (all loyal, all upgrades):

Tech:Tali

1st TL: garrus

Biotic: Samara

2nd TL: Thane

Escort: Zaeed

Boss Squad: Grunt Miranda

I lost Thane and Mordin

2nd time:

Tech: Legion

1st TL: Garrus

Biotic: Samara

2nd TL: Garrus

Escort: Mordin

Boss Squad: Grunt and Jack

everyone survived.

Door Opener/Hacker:  I used Tali, but have been told Mordin and Legion work.

Strike Leader: Garrus, has the most experience and was the most loyal to me it seemed.

Biotic Protector: I chose Miranda, and took Thane/Mordin. Thane basically sacrificed himself because Miranda got tired. Next time I think I won't use Miranda. BTW, I had Morinth instead of Samara, but didn't use her.

Crew Member Guard: Zaeed on my 1st playthrough, but most say anyone survives it.

Diversion Team Leader: I chose Garrus again, it only seemed logical as Jacob wasn't loyal, Thane was dead, and I was taking Miranda/Mordin with me to the big show. I didn't want Tali, Grunt, Legion, or Jack leading the way. And I never trusted Morinth even though she was loyal.

With that said, I had every upgrade, and only Legion/Jacob weren't loyal. I basically ignored them due to that. I still don't understand why Thane died. I chose the renegade option during the Miranda/Jack fight instead of solely siding with Miranda. I guess that could have made her less loyal and hence why she couldn't keep the biotic barrier up.

Did I need to side with Miranda?
Does Samara falter with the biotic barrier?
Does someone have to die there? Should I bring Jacob along to sacrifice himself?

Who knows, I just started my 2nd playthrough, and might do it a little different. I might send Thane as the Crew's guard, since it seems that no one dies at that part unless they aren't loyal. As well as pick Samara for the Biotic barrier portion(I won't kill her off in my 2nd run).

Thane died as my door opener, so don't use him. Heard Legion and Tali work.

I heard Jack works as the barrier biotic, but i used Samara no problems.

Garrus worked as the escort.

And I used Miranda to lead the other teams

Skyward, did Samara start faltering and feeling tired? Or did she make it through with no causalities.

Your question is, who's best for the job, all other considerations being secondary.

Still, I'm going to volunteer her that I chose Jack over Samara for the "biotic" mission for a wholly irrational reason. I wouldn't do that in your case, however, because Jack's not loyal and -- therefore -- more likely to die.

Samara had the idea of the biotic barrier against the swarm, so my first impulse was to let her carry out her plan. Then I remembered she was a Justicar who'd just completed her life's biggest mission. She was at peace with herself, and had told me so.

Jack was still one messed-up puppy.

So, for completely irrational reasons, I decided to let Jack save the universe. Make her the hero. Let everybody know, including her, that her life really mattered.

I'm a sentimental old coot, but it worked well for me.

Samara was feeling tired for me, but we made it through. She even was able to do that explosion thing at the end. I think that what makes for a successful biotic run and since the launch trailer showed Jack doing that, Jack should work. I would also assume Morinth would work since she was able to go toe-to-toe with Samara until Shepard intervened.

Wrex.the.next.spectre was Miranda able to make a biotic explosion upon reaching the door?

She was exhausted, you could tell, but everyone got through.

Miranda, Thane, or Jacob are not good choices for the Biotic shield.

No biotic explosion. I chose Miranda because she suggested that she could also do it after Jack says she can.

{SPOILERS}

Miranda starts saying she can't take it anymore near the top of the final descent.

She starts running.

Thane says we need to move quickly

Shepard says everyone through the doors, now.

Miranda falls, biotic barrier disappears.

Shep helps her through door, tells Thane No fall back...

Bugs get thane, Shep tries to help

But it looks like Thane tries moving away to sacrifice himself...

Expert: Tali. Thrustworthy. Good with tech-no-logical stuff.

TL1/2: Garrus. Thought it might help him through the drama with his last team if he could lead this bunch to victory. So no, you're not the only irrational old coot around Thompson. :)

Escort: Zaeed. Awesome character. Shame he didn't get a worthy treatment, but was gaffer taped on as DLC. Would have loved him as a full character with proper conversation. I play as soldier, and sending back a combat oriented character didn't weaken tech or biotich strength of the team.

Barrier: Miranda. She got real weak, don't recall any explosions. Maybe if she'd had proper clothes on she could have taken the heat... Jack was in the squad and ended up getting a one way flight somewhere dark.

Never did like Jack. Shouldn't have brought her. One casualty acceptable for a suicide mission. Need to stop playing this game. Starting to sound like Mordin. :D

I've only played through it once but, with everyone loyal barring Miranda;

Team Leader(Both times): Garrus

Hacker/Tech Expert: Legion

Barrier/Biotic Expert: Samara

Escort: Thane

Entire team survived.

I understand now, I guess with Miranda not being a pure biotic(more of a Sentinel) that it makes sense.

Picking anyone other than Samara or Jack for biotic barrier will result in a casualty. No exceptions.

Miranda lied when she said "any biotic could do it". Well, she didn't lie. But not every biotic can do it with no casualties. Only the most gifted, and specialized two biotics can.
