So it's going to look like ME 2 does except in 10 years?

Who cares what the graphics look like? Story and gameplay should come first. I don't really care if the graphics look like something that could have been done ten years ago, if the game isn't good the nice graphics aren't going to save it.

It was a little confusing to see extremely low resolution textures scattered throughout the game, and the infamous black door at the beginning of the Human Noble campaign.

I hope these arn't repeated in a sequel.

Graphics may not make the story but the sure help contribute. Eclipse was supposed to be a next gen engine. It fell far from the tree.

ME2 doesn't have "better" graphics than DA:O, they just traded off with a different balance between the models and the environment.

Environments in ME2 have a ton of recycling, they're generally small and pretty undetailed. In DA:O they're so detailed and unique that they look like an illustration.

Characters have the opposite tradeoff (with human faces in ME2 being an exception, since lots of corners have been cut on them, and they look MUCH worse than the DA:O ones). Moreover the Dragon Age engine needs to be able to support more enemies on screen, which lowers the "allowance" of polygons you can use for each of them and the characters.

Simply, the machine's resources are finite, and Bioware chose a different tradeoff for the two games according to what they were tryng to achieve.

The most important thing in this article is that the vice chairman of Bioware confirms that they are currently developing a sequel. However, he also says that they are working on the current engine, so I really doubt that they can improve the graphics by much, because the current engine is seriously dated.

The only thing I feel they should improve upon for Dragon Age 2 is the feeling of sheer size. In Mass Effect 2, there are definitely parts where you feel exceptionally tiny in comparison to something in the background. An example of this would be the collector ship on Horizon.

I haven't seen quite as much of that in Dragon Age. For example, the mountaintop near the ashes was done fairly well, but I'd have loved to see something like the expansive caverns in the Deep Roads laid out in the background, rather than some closed off gauntlet-like tunnels. Or mountains being visible on the horizon line when exploring Lothering, etc.

A squeal with improved graphics? Impossible. You'll be telling us there'll be new enemies next.

Now that they have the engine down pack, the lore nice and stable, and a franchise that proved it's staying power... you can bet we'll be seeing it sooner then later. Unless you consider later tommorow... or a year... or two years.

Graphics can play a huge part in an immersive world. And I'm sure you'd agree that a game with a great story and gameplay WITH fantastic graphics would be preferable than one which would have wooden animation and dead expressions which constantly pull you out of the story.

If they pulled out BG III with same engine as BG I tomorrow, i would pay 300 euros for it. I would even rob if it cost more. That what i care for graphics.

This is a RPG, graphics aint so important.

In my preferences plot and lore, then combat mechanics, then graphics.

They now have a set in stone game engine. This kind of improvement makes sense.

I'd much rather see them spend money on new "motion capture" animations that will allow for the inclusion of polearms. The current graphics are quite satisfactory.

Edit: And flails would be nice, too.  Posted Image

I find the graphics to be good enough. I'd much rather they focus on different areas.

may be they should hire real actors to do cutscenes like in the old Wing Commander series! that made Clive Owen what he is today!

A sequel with better graphics than the original? Stop the presses!

Graphics are good enough - how about improving the size of the areas instead? less corridor levels/more open rolling plains and sprawling fields...

I found DAO's graphics to be needlessly good. I'd have happily completely removed the facial expressions and spent those resources elsewhere (like an NWN-style hotbar).

Not a bad suggestion at all.

Dated? In what way, since Dragon Age: Origins is the first game to use it.

My friend has it for PC and it looks decent enough on the PC. Not great, but not bad. I have it for the 360 and it is ugly ! I like nice graphics they pull me in that much more. I don't need them but the 360 was borderline painfull to look at. Dull, lifeless, and bland. I know bioware will make it much better looking in the sequel. They listen to the overall fanbase. All the reviews and fans bashed ME's combat and they totally revamped it. The most common beef people have with dragon age is the graphics so I expect a revamp in them as well ^_^

I want more life in my enviorments like in the Witcher. And i want the character models to not look so fugly.

I play DA:O  at 1920x1080 resolution with everything set to high/very high and the anti-aliasing off. My computer isn't even that great. Intel Dual Core 1.8GHZ, 2GB RAM, Nvidia GT 240 1GB Ram which I picked up for £80.

The graphics look decent enough to me. While not mind blowing I certainly didn't find them lackluster in the slightest.

Why does everybody keep saying DAO has bad graphics? Perhaps you should update your comp or something.

Do people honestly think it's going to take Bioware another 8-10 years to make Dragon Age 2?

I assume you mean 1920x1080, but holy cow what is with all these 16:9 computer monitors?

I really dislike 16:9 for monitors.  I always want 16:10.
