It's getting very irritating to have my login expire in middle of typing a reply, especially if it's a big reply &/or there's a quote in it. Going through all that trouble to type the reply only for the reply to fail because the login expires, then having to re-login, then having to re-surf to the thread I was replying to, then re-typing the reply, then re-posting the reply, before the reply finally gets to see the light of day is getting irritating. Image IPB Why does login only last 24ish hours? Image IPB

With all due respect to the devs, can you please do something about this, like extending login time to 2 weeks, or changing the login system to not be able to wear out while a reply is bein typed? Please? Many thanks for your time & attention. If nothing can be done, then many thanks for your time & attention anyway. /bow

My 1 1/2 cents.

We are currently completely unable to reproduce that issue (unless you're running IE8 with google chrome frame - see the sticky about that one).

We have deployed several fixes that *should* have fixed that, but they clearly have not worked. Please post as much detail as you can to help us track this down, preferably including:

* browser vendor/version

* and addons/extensions you have installed in your browser

* any firewalls/adblockers/etc that might be interfering with the content

* screenshots of the problem, if possible

Thanks!

The specific way it happens is that I type my reply, post it, then there are occasionally times when I get the 'choose a language' screen, I select english & the button to proceed, then the next screen tells me that the page is 'restricted', & I notice myself no longer logged in. I relogin, then I have to, as mentioned before, have to resurf to the thread, & redo the reply from scratch if I don't happen to have it on my clipboard.

I use IE8, but my apologies, but i've never heard of the 'google chrome frame'. What is that, & is there a way I can check it on my computer to see if I have it, perhaps without my knowing?

Edit: Almost forgot, I have no idea if my browser is using any add-ons or not, need info on how to check that too. Image IPB My Firewall comes from my anti-virus, & the standard Windows Firewall that comes with XP. (I dunno if it's safe to say what anti-virus i'm using. Am I right in assuming that's internet security unsafe?)

Edit 2: No special pop-up blocking program, only maximum pop-up block setting on my IE8 Internet Options menu, if this helps.

I hope i'm bein helpful, i'm a novice at bug/problem reporting. Image IPB

This problem has been inexplicably solved on my end. I'm not sure how or what, but for some ~40 hours (since the feed list came back) I haven't had to login. I've installed the new AVG 9 released a few days ago (but am currently running with Resident Shield and LinkScanner disabled, making it effectively useless, because I noticed an IE8 compatibility issue I'm not sure has been fixed yet) as well as the IE8 update Microsoft released a little later (KB976749). I'm somewhat hesitant to experiment too much because I'd rather not have to deal with it again.

My understanding is that it's a plugin to make Google Wave, possibly other Chrome specific applications, work in IE. I suspect you would know if you have it, even if you didn't install it yourself.

Settings, fourth from top (don't know the English name but it should be obvious).

Many thanks! So I guess that means I count as IE8 with no google chrome frame, the anti-virus is McAfee, & thanks to Snoteye, I found the Add-Ons page thing. The currently enabled & used add-ons are:

Adobe Systems Incorporated:
    Shockwave Flash Object

Adobe Systems, Incorporated:
    AcroIEHlprObj class

McAfee, Inc.:
    McAfee SiteAdvisor Toolbar
    McAfee Phishing Filter
    scriptproxy
    McAfee SiteAdvisor BHO

All other add-ons are disabled at this time.

Many thanks for your intel Snoteye! Image IPB

I hope this is helpful.

If you are getting the language-selector page, that means that your cookies are actually going away entirely.

Do you only get logged out when using the forums, or does it happen on other pages on the site?

Hrm, does it also happen about every 5 minutes?

It seems to happen on these forums, & it seems to happen roughly 24 hours after the last login. It happens most often when i'm trying to post a reply, but i've had one instance of it happening as I was clicking a forum thread to read it.

I didn't know that this site used cookies. I don't remember what my cookie settings are, I haven't dealt with them in over a year. I need a reminder on where to go to handle my cookies, perhaps I should look at my cookie settings. I also don't know if my McAfee does anything to cookies or not either.

When I had it, it was everywhere (forums, group discussions, projects, profile, and so on), in intervals ranging from a couple of minutes at worst to several (4-5) hours at best, and occasionally I think it remembered me even after closing IE8. I think the only thing consistent about it was being redirected to the language-selector.

In the middle of the first tab in the browser's preferences.

I've rooted around in my puder & can't find a cookie management area or any indication of anything that could be auto-deleting cookies, including searching my McAfee interface. I hate it when I forget how to do something like this. Image IPB This is what happens when I don't need to operate certain settings for years.

Another thing i've been meaning to ask is that when I wanna paste something in this site, like text pasting onto a post reply space, the computer always asks if this site has permission to use the clipboard contents, or somethin like that. At first, it would do it once before pasting, but for at least a week, it gives 2 such messages before it does the paste. Does this indicate any problem, or is this normal?

I'm not sure if this is the same problem but for me it just gives an error when using the mouse to copy and paste into this particular reply box. I can still use the keyboard shortcuts for it. It doesn't do it in the 'quick reply' box though.

Not sure if I can help here. But using IE8 in WIndows 7 x86 I can login but whatever I do on the site shows me the login page again. Firefox has no problems.

Addons are Adobe and Flash and some MS Live addons.

Make that 2 times now that it happens when clicking on a thread to read it. It keeps acting like my login has a shelf life of 24ish hours, then just wears off. My settings are set to auto-delete browsing history after 1 day, in case this is helpful.

Hope this helps.

I've now had my 1st ever time that I hopped onto the Social Site to find the login already expired & needing re-login. So it's lookin like it's not needed to be on the site for the problem to happen.

Hope this helps.

Sadly, not for me. My login still acts like it can only have a maximum shelf life of 24 hours. Image IPB

New thought: I have an EA Download Manager program that works for my Spore game. Does this count as a addon or plugin? I connect it to the internet manually when I boot the puder up & leave it connected till I turn the puder off. It's the latest version of it that I know of.

Hope this helps.

Same here, win7 x64 IE8 no major plugins apart from shockwave, silverlight and java. All latest stable version.
Could at first not create account, then kept getting loggged out trying to reg the game. So I said sodd it and used Firefox. Tried a few more times after registering but still could not post to forums, every time i click any link I lose my login. (Tried to empty temp, cookies etc.)

So I guess the work around at the moment is use Firefox, opera or whatever other browser you like.

Update: As a tactical experiment, I tried going to my Internet Options Browsing History & clicking it's Delete button on purpose, & this did not make me have to relogin. Can this mean that the problem isn't in the cookies after all?

It's getting annoying for the Reply Posting to occasionally fail to save my Enter presses & bugger up my paragraphing sometimes as well, making me Edit to fix it. Could the Site be failing to keep stuff saved sometimes?

As I posted in another thread, I found that if I disabled the "Remember Me" checkbox, I could sign in and browse just fine, and the "login on every page" issue went away.

Of course, I can't persist my login but only logging in once per session and being able to add replies is a lot better than it was. :)

I'm willing to give that a try.
