Couple questions.

I started a playthrough on insanity and made a new Adept.. is it a bad decision to start a new character or is everything scaled to your level?

Anyway, I'm on the fight on Horizon now where you face 2 Scions spamming shockwave and there's a ton of husks charging you in waves during that. I've tried different tactics (staying in cover to avoid shockwave and shoot the husks, running out in the open to keep my distance on the husks while dodging the shockwaves) but they all ended up in either my squadmates dying from the husks or me just getting destroyed. Does anyone have any tips/ideas/VIDEOS on how to do that fight or am I just too low level to do it? The Scions die really slowly on insanity but I'm not sure if that's the way it's meant to be or if it's the lack of upgrades. I upgraded everything I managed to find up until now.

Thanks :D

Shockwave with the Adept sends Husks flying, from my experience. At least, they did on Veteran (kills 'em on Casual). Use Shockwave when they come towards you, and deal with the Scions.

But yeah, you're dealing with Adepts. On Insanity. Good luck.

Shooting it helps.

You have to pay attention to what kind of protection your enemies have. Tailor not only your weapons and ammo, but your teammates as well, to the type of damage protection your enemies have. Warp is great against Biotic Barriers, Incenerate is good against Armor, etc. Bring with you a full compliment. Soldier/Adept/Tech is your best shot, unless you know what you're going up against(for example, final mission I just brought two Biotics because I wasn't facing many synthetics).

As much how I'd love to try guiding the husks through the shockwaves, shockwave 1-hits my shield and the second one will kill me.. sounds a little risky. lol

As a Vanguard, I felt the best way to deal with Scions was to Biotic charge them in the face and then alternate punches/shotgun. If you're in their face, they don't do the long range blast. But you need to work fast.

Not sure on Insanity mode, but thats how I did it on Normal.

And yeah, Shockwave is the weapon of choice on Husks.

On Hardcore, husks are armoured, and I can only assume they are even tougher on insanity. In hardcore, I just stripped the armour after they bunched up, and a single pull nails them.

But yeah, Best bet would be focusing on upgrading your hand cannon and taking AP ammo as your additional perk - because maxed AP ammo + upgraded hand cannon absolutely shreds armoured targets (husks, scions, gunships etc).

If you can warp one down to death, getting in close is actually a good option. They cant use shockwave to hit you if you are too close so as long as you stay out of melee range they should just pointlessly shuffle at you while you shoot their face.

Run.

Run a lot.

On my first inanity play through, as Soldier, I spent most of that fight storming from cover to cover in large wide circles. Pause once in a while - when Scions are far away - and kill husks. Rinse and repeat.

Don't forget to switch to incendiary ammo and use all anti-armor, anti-mech powers.

I just did this fight myself. I'm a sentinel and had mordin and miranda as my team mates. The second the scions showed I had every one use whatever power is good against armor. And for some reason the husks never chased until a minute into the fight. I also had armor piercing ammo too so I managed to kill a scion before I even got touched by a husk. But when it comes to the husk just destroy their armor and use a biotic power to throw them or something. Once you knock out one of the scions the fight is much easier. All I did was walk along the perimeter of the level once the husks starting chasing. Walk 10 feet turn around drop armor then use throw or what ever. If I ran I would always get hit by a shockwave.

How do you deal with your squad? Won't they just die to the husks? That's what been happening to mine when I tried running, and I'm not a soldier so I can't really burn them down myself because they all have armor.

I did that with my Infililtrator as well.  Also when in doubt... Kill it with Fire!

Heightened Adrenaline Rush + Storm (Commando) is a hilarious way to gain a ton of ground, you cover 5 Seconds worth of sprinting in like 2 seconds of all the enemies time.

I hated that part on Horizon. I discovered that they won't start attacking you unless you come close enough. You can stand at the door and shoot at the right one, then moving to the left while hugging the wall will put the other one in your sights. I killed both of them using my Sniper, Pistol and biotics without them firing anything back at me.

On veteran at least, I found spawning a combat drone next to them keeps them busy for quite awhile, leaving you open to free shots while they try to kill the drone. With a fully upgraded drone, I could usually keep this up until the scion died.

As an Infiltrator I found that head shots do the normal amount of extra damage on a Scion that they would on any other foe. It's just a bit more difficult because their heads tilt off to the side in an awkward manner. Something to consider if you're rolling with a sniper rifle.

Keep one incapacitated with singularity at all times, stay near cover, and use your heavy weapon. My favorite weapon for that kind of situation is the cryo one since you can fire it super fast.

Doesn't really work, every single enemy on that map has armor so biotics aren't very effective.

If the Scion is that giant zombie thing thats meshed together by a bunch of other husks, I found THIS really helped; Get a sniper rifle, and shoot those glowing blue spots on the front of its body. It does more damage I believe.

Simple. Move around. A lot. Call your squad to group up ("c" for PC users) wherever you move, and take cover. Just keep yourself and your squad moving. Find cover. Do some damage. Then move again. Pay attention to your surroundings.

Save your heavy ammo for the Praetorian.

Those are Praetorians. Scions are the ones with the big bulging sack thing on the back and the arm-cannon.

Pretty much this.  I used soldier and ran like a baby in circles.  I had AP ammo and whenever I had a moment to take a shot I would Adren Rush and fire a sniper shot at a scion.  You have to keep the scions firing at you or they will kill your squad.

It was still easier than the next part with the Praetorian.  That took 5-6 tries.

Even endgame Scions I consider to be teh most dangerous enemies out there. I learned quickly that most important part of fighting a Scion is to keep moving, and keep shooting.

I don't know about higher difficulties, but when I played through Throw was extermly effective against husks. Keep spamming throw or some other power or powers to take down the Husks. All the time keep your distance fromt he Scions, Keep moving and in between power usages keep shooting the Scion.

Ugh, I hate Scions.

Unfortunately Adepts seem to be particularly vulnerable to the things, biotics are strong against barriers after all
